True Blue... Out of line, out of pocket, out of order motherfuckers. Maybe their shit is a scam. Looking back on the M33 Firmware incident, maybe it's not. Voice your opinion after reading this one.
Earlier today, the True Blue dongle website was updated to give a warning to owners of cloned dongles and manufacturers themselves. We already heard of the anti-clone technology in the True Blue firmware in the past but now, the TB team is making it clear what those protections will do.
According to them, a "special effect" will be activated at any time while the cloned dongle is in use. The example effect that they mentioned is that the PS3's internal HDD will be erased, thus resulting in total data loss, an incomplete firmware, etc. To add insult to injury, TB mentions that they are developing new effects to be added.
I think that the True Blue team has overstepped their boundaries here. I do understand that they have to protect against clones just as anyone would. However, I don't think that they had to take it as far as erasing the PS3's HDD. I mean, it wouldn't be fair to those who just bought the clone for its price or got one as a gift from someone.
For those who can remember the M33 firmware fiasco with PS3News, it went something along the lines of this incident. PS3News was editing M33's custom firmware releases for the PSP and then re-releasing it. When 3.51 and 3.52 M33 was released, it is made known that PS3News wasn't a reputable site for firmware distribution and that a file check was in place. If the check failed, the installer will shut down thus bricking the PSP. This was done to stop PS3News from editing. Unfortunately, it did not stop them and hundreds of PSPs were bricked. What was M33's response...Take your grievances to the site owner.
After a while however, the M33 team did come to terms with theirselves and promised that they will create a tool that will reverse the bricks. Sooner or later, Pandora's Battery was born. In this case, there was a redeeming factor and all the PSPs that were victim to PS3News are probably working again.
Now the question is, will True Blue be offering a fix for the users that they will be affecting or will they just not give a shit?
At the time of writing, their site is down.

Cold hearted? Nah... it's just fine. Don't wanna buy TrueBlue? Don't... go buying imitations just so you can take advantage of someone's else work, and I know how this sounds, comming from a scene related guy, but c'mon, can't affore the PS3 game? can't affore a less than 60 dls dongle? what the hell are you doing buying a PS3? Go get yourself a PSP and jailbreak the shit out of it...

Okay, they want to protect their work (fine).
But what guaranty do I have that their code is free of bugs, and for some strange reason the "anti-hack" code starts erasing all my data? I don't want a time-bomb on my PS3 (specially a high price bomb 50-60€).
Just my opinion.
fjorger.

With a situation like that, Is it even worth risking buying a dongle? With true blue you seem to get a risk of getting your harddisk erased? what if it bugs out?
and on the other hand, which other dongle is trustworthy enough if they put such copy protections in place?
So...
No more dongles for me, and actually I was about to buy one.
Guess I'll wait until the next Custom Firmware comes out, I still have enough 3.55 fw games to play anyways :)

I was going to finally cave and get one of these, but now I'll be steering clear. Any company that threatens and blackmails PS3 users is not getting my business.

Hm, sounds to me like intentional destruction of software. I get that they are trying to protect their income but some measures are just overkill, if a real TB dongle was malfunctioning and the software reads it as a copy it should be reversible. I know most eula's include "software is provided as is .." etc. etc. but aren't there laws about software that intentionally destroys your data? Sounds to me lilke they could be held liable.

wheres the irony on this, TB break sony/game devs security measures to prevent people stealing "pirating" their games, yet TB team has a spaz fit when it comes to people stealing their work.
@demonsoul
go play with traffic you t1t, how are TB in anyway like sony, did sony ever format your HDD... erm no. but it goes to show like sony TB do not want their work to be stolen.
You should stop been a little CU|\|T and FUCK1NG buy your games instead of whining like a little B1TCH, people like you are the reason consoles are having to take further actions to increase its security.

As furious as I am with the TB team for doing this, whats wrong with working for money?

When did this come out april 1st? The cloners do their jobs well enough even if there was such a protection. TB is a clone of an open-source product anyways..... If u make something like that, u have to expect to be cloned (it's a form of flattery) & if they are worth cloning, it means they have made enough dosh not to care about ppl cloning their shit
