PSGroove: Whos Porting What?

Submitted by greg; September 02, 2010

Just a quick note... Personally, I wouldn't buy into all this "I'm doing a port" business, especially those who are asking for straight up donations, or those who seem to have no clue what they're talking about. Sure people are working on it, but those people aren't yappin' away. Now I'm not saying they're all fake, I'm just saying be careful who you give your hard earned $ to. There are a lot of shysters out there on the Internet. When/if a port happens, whether it be PSP, iPhone, Android, or whatever, it'll be here. Stay alert, stay safe -- you know what I'm saying? Click here for more on PSGroove -- the open source PS JailBreak clone.

Is there anyone with a site showing there current progress with this? Would be interesting to follow whats happening with this.

Also has anyone started homebrew for the ps3? any sites again?

Blackcat usb's are now back orders which suck.

Greg i like the way you used the term shysters. Real talk though when a port is ready its ready! People need to stop hating...especially if they cant code for shite! Eavpsp seems genuine to me, but time till tell.

Crazy thought, could the hack not be emulated on windows or linux? its a re-programmable usb so would there not be a way to emulate that? A windows/linux machine can act as host which i think is required to run the code to act as a fake 6 port usb hub.

@phantom

its easier to hook a psp or microcontroller for all means, including portable. None the less for the time being, yes, computer to ps3 sounds nice.

Well now everyones saying eavpsp is faking, but if you read his olders posts he did say he was going to attempt it, he did say he's not done this before but really wants to try.

So madshaun1984 and dunfyy from ps3hax saw he was making some mistake, i think, no idea what the chat says really apart from coming up with a team name.

But he said hes new to it and to jump at the first mistakes made and calling it a fake may be premature. Who knows what may happen, eavpsp might end up making a tweensy emulator, or someone else may, or may create a psp port.

But defaming others just isnt right, if they see someone making a mistake they should tell them and help fix it, not boast about it.

Have madshaun1984 and dunfyy done anything to help the development of any port? idk but at least eavpsp is trying his best to help create someone we all want!

eavpsp seems like a total newb to me... loading hex compiled for a USB controller in to cwcheat? give me a f**kin break. thats not to say it cant be done, I just dont expect it to be done by him any time soon.

I don't say he's fake. I do believe that he's doing something. But he just won't make it the way he wants. He isn't able to do AVR an emulator in the PSP. Coding an emulator on the PSP isn't the right way to do it. It just reveals how newbie he is in the world of programming/hacking/exploiting!
But hey, no one can blame his dedication! I do believe he's real, but not capable!

Well just remember that dark alex was a noob once as were all the well known hackers.

Eavpsp even said himself hes new to this, and this is only be the first bump for him. And for some to start flaming him because of that probably have forgotten the countless mistakes they made when they themselves started on the scene.

I was wondering if the Groove works with a PSP, does that mean that its bootable from the Memory Stick? If so, then you can make it work directly with a Mem. Stick.

# blueman 2010-09-02 19:31
As it has been stated countless times, no this, nor any other exploit based on psjailbreak will not work on a normal memory card.

The PS3 needs to communicate with the dongle or device used and it must also reply back to the PS3, a memory card cannot reply back to the PS3 so cannot be used.

This is why people are interested in a psp port or smartphone port, as almost everyone has one or the other.

It doesn't work like that, it would use the psp hardware to emulate an avr micro controller, so basically the reason why a normal mem card wouldn't work is because it needs additional hardware to act as a host to run code.

That does NOT mean it's "bootable from the memory stick" as it is not using that function on the PSP. The data/software may be stored on the memory stick, but the PSP will be using the USB in a different fashion than a card reader.

actually i gave it a though i am not a programmer nor an engineer but lets say i spend a lot of time on computers ..

i though why should we attach an avr ? if we can attach a pc
eathernet to usb ? or a usb-usb ? would it work ?

once again i am not a programmer I am just trying to have thoughts to overcome my inability to get how of an avr micro-controller :'(

:) so it might inspire somebody

Acting as host is all PC USB controllers can do, and host is exactly what we don't need for this. PC USB controllers can't be forced into slave / device mode, so there's no possibility of this happening.

Actually yes.. I've managed to get further in this 'port' than eavpsp. I've managed to install the SDK, compile the prx, and supporting eboot program and then run it on my PSP.

You don't see me bragging all over twitter saying I'm starting a PSP Port, and to donate because I'm not. The most complicated part is creating the PRX to perform the exploit, and descriptor file to make the PSP act like a USB Hub.

This is something eavpsp doesn't know how to do, he is asking people with PSP experience to write both those PRX and descriptor files. All eavPSP is contributing is an eboot application that will run the PRX plugin, something which is given as an example in the SDK, anyway.

Alot of the new hackers to the scene didn't start off by bragging on twitter, at least they had something credible to release before bragging. eavpsp has released, nothing, apart from a zip file containing code already written by other people, and a few screen shots edited in what looks like 'mspaint'.

# blueman 2010-09-03 06:23
Who cares dunfy, the fact is he was the first to start a porting project. He said he was new, he never promised anything and he did ask for help because he was new. You trying to put him down because he's new to the scene is silly, cos afterall so were you when you started.

Instead of flaming people how about supporting them, you never know in a year or 2 he may end up a better hacker then you!

# dunfy 2010-09-03 06:30
I've never claimed to be a hacker. Never have been. I did try to support him, all he wanted to do is palm off the work onto other people and never attempted to help him self. He couldn't even get a basic prx loader compiled and working on the psp, and you think he had potential?

He asked for donations before even releasing anything credible, he released a few screenshots which were made in ms pain and a zip file of existing source code.

As you'll see the real hackers creating the real port haven't spent most of their time on twitter bragging, asking for help and donations. The best thing he could have done was kept quiet, and released something of use. He's still yet to release something of use I might add.
