PSGroove Hermes v4 Released Updated

Hermes bids farewell, Half-Baked-style -- fuck the company that used his/her name in their product, and to the rest of you sceners, you're cool -- Hermes is out. That said here is Hermes v4 as a final parting gift. Package includes two hex files, one for Teensy (AT90USB162 at 16Mhz), and the other AT90USBKEY (AT90USB1287 at 8Mhz). Source is there too. You know the drill, other builds to follow. Hermes v4 Features:

New Address 0x80000000007ff000 end of the payload at the end of the Kernel in order to add the extra code needed (the code is relocatable, if necessary).
Added support syscall 8 with Stealth and other kernel functions such as copy, allocate memory, perform routine, add path table (for replacement / redirection of files and directories), etc. (see syscall8.h for details).
Support for Homebrew in /apps_home/PS3_GAME similar to a flash drive or connected on /dev_usb000/PS3_GAME.
Syscall redirection 36 games to run diskless /apps_home/PS3_GAME.

He's just acting like a child. He doesn't have the rights to the name "Hermes." He took the name from the Greek god named Hermes. In addition - this is a Chinese company. This is what they do - they take names that people recognize and use them to promote their product. If everyone got offended and started crying every time a Chinese company copied off of them, where would we be? There are clones of iPads and Wiis and everything else you can think of that are all made in China. The worst part about it is that this company is not even copying off of him! They're supporting him!
One more thing - his payload is messed up and dangerous. Just read KaKaRoTo's post on PS3News. He explains the whole thing.

Why should people like him and the others do all the work to make open source for us to benefit while other greedy f@!ks make a profit from thier work and to ad insult to injury use thier name. personally, i think the hermes payload is the most stable and reliable payload out there.

it's really sad that the leechers and some of the people in the scene are acting in this manner, it's downright pathetic. hermes was a great contributor to the scene. look what he did for the wii scene. in my mind hermes will always be one of the great pioneers that blazed the trails of the ps3 scene.

Have you tried kakarotos payload? It is not working for me and consantly freezing. He might be right in theory but his payload dont working practically. And the other side Hermes paylod works practically but not in theory but kakaroto. Just try them out and decide for your self I stay whit hermes until kakarotos is more stable. And it is just childish to blame hermes for badly written code kakaroto will earn his respect whit god code not bad manners.

Well, kiss goodbye to the PS3 scene now that Hermes is jumping ship. Can't say I blame the guy, but it's easy money to steel code and sell it. Not from experience, but what is easier, write your own and sell or steal and sell?

Anyway, Hermes is a legend on the Wii scene, perhaps he will go back to that. I personally think the PS3 scene is coming to an abrupt end.

I would expect to see less updates on this site as the newer games come out that only work with 3.42+, Hermes is out, Christmas is coming and I think by then if 3.42+ is not hacked it won't ever be for a very long time. How long before people think "I want to play online with my new game I got for Crimbo", while all their mates are raving about it?

I'll give it another 2 weeks tops, no hack for 3.42+ and I'll jump ship and my usb minimus 16mhz can go to the highest bidder.

Truthfully, I think its all about me really. I want to play my legit games online, I'm never gonna by another PS3 so can't go down that road.

I love the homebrew, thats what I'm interested in right now. Never had a PSP so can't talk for that, but the Wii is off the chart for apps, homebrew scene is amazing and yeah, there are the pirated games options, but thats not what it's about all the time. Hermes and Waninkoko are leaders in their field on the Wii, both working really hard and I've not heard of people shitting on their work, maybe that is why they are going. I can't believe something as simple as stolen code would piss someone off as much to leave the scene?

I've thought about losing the minimus up to two weeks ago coz I strongly believe this is not going anywhere with updated games (yeah I know they did this on the Wii and there was a workaround so it may happen), updated firmware etc, etc.

Jimbones, I'm gonna give it 3 months then I'm gone.

I think they do it for themselves, the by product being that everyone else can use it. They are good at what they do, but they have to remember, someone else can just steel and sell just like that, it's all against the rulez, but it does happen.

Hermes is a great hacker, that's for sure, but he's not the only one. First of all we have the PSJailbreak team who made all this possible in the first place. Then we have Mathieulh, Waninkoko and other great minds on the scene. Don't expect 3.42 to be hacked in the same way 3.41 was. A custom firmware is probably what's going to send Sony back to their little cave. So don't jump the boat already, wait for the rescue.

This means that there is a bad code written some where. This bad code may not be necessarily part of the payload. Did you delete the old hex properly before upgrading.

I've compiled the PS3ToolChain and was able to compile the KaKaRoTo-version too. But in my opinion this KaKa-branch ist absolutely unuseable and unstable (often crashes when leaving the Gaia-Manager or even during bootup - "sometimes" it works, but that makes no fun at all).

Could someone please help me out and give me a hint so that I can compile my own AT90USB1287-16MhZ-HEX?

I recommend Hermes v3 + Retail Package Support + Fix for Game Updates over this and PL3, it has better comaptibility with some games (like pes11 and fifa11) and better compatibility with game updates, also is more stable than PL3

I'm using a Dingoo to jailbreak. I just wait for the most recent dingoo jailbreak release and put it on my device. Is there any other way to get things like hermes 4 on the device? In other words, if all I have is a dingoo, and a version that has hermes 4 in it isn't released yet, am I out of luck until someone posts the dingoo file or can these payloads and things be implemented another way?

I prefer compiling it for my own but maybe I'll have to wait for a AT90USB1287-16MHz-image compiled by someone else...
