PSFreedom iPhone 2G/3G & iPod Touch 1G Video Tutorial

I know a lot of you are asking, so here you go... Get a coffee and your [first gen] iPod Touch (1G) or iPhone (2G/3G) and take the next 14 minutes and 10 seconds to see what's up. My granny did mine for me -- it's that easy.

Follow the above video first then try copying this file (gunzip first) to /proc/psfreedom/payload, then run the exploit. this might be a stupid question ,once you hack the ps3 ,do you need to keep the usb hacking device plugged in to the ps3 at all times when you want to use it in hacked mode or do you only use the device for the time you are hacking the ps3 and then thatsit done,then you can remove the usb device and your ps3 is hacked?

i ask as i could get a loan of one of the devices that can hack/enable the ps3 but would i need to use this all the time ,if that was the case then the small usb stick would be best.

also is there a way to remove the hack after trying it out so you could update firmware ,would that be safe ?

The problem is not the wonderful port of PSfreedom from NTAUTHORITY ... its the openiboot ... the ipod touch 1g, iphone 2g/3g are "pwnd4life" ... they have a hole in the bootloader. so you can manipulate the iboot bootloader and replace it with OPENiboot. witch the ipod touch 2g/3g/4g and iphone 3gs/4 NOT have. *this may be outdatet in a few weeks/month because new exploit was found in the bootrom^^*

without openiboot you can not use PSfreedom.

sooo with all these new ports coming out its starting to get a bit confusing which ones acually have back up support i know the usb boards do but what else it would be great if someone could set out a list of back up supported ports and non back up supported ports i check this site every hour and am trying to keep up to date but there is others out there who have only just learnt of this great acheivment (ps3 being hacked)and have no idea of what to do sooo please someone do us all a favour and compile it into a back up and non back up list

So wait, let's pretend I do this.
I already have openiboot installed cause I was trying out iPhoDroid.
Do I just do the rest of the copying/etc on my iPhone and just plug it to my PS3? (what i'm basically asking is, is it ok that I have an openiboot already?)

A bit more hassle as youll need the firmware, but if you looking to use iphodroid (which is way easier), it makes the whole thing much smoother

Good job guys, I would try this but my ps3 is still on firmware version 3.15 and I wont update until either otheros is put back in 3.41 or Linux + loader is ported as a homebrew app (which would be even nicer to be honest). And with a speculated version for older firmwares I will just wait.

I would install it to my Slim, but there is no confirmation as to how you remove backup manager from the device? Obviously I would like to keep that one legit until I know Sony won't kill my PSN account (not that I use PSN for much). The slim is still on 3.15 too ^^.

I got 3.15 Firmware, can I use the ps3 jailbreak with that firmware or do I have to upgrade to 3.41?

And if I upgrade to firmware 3.41 (by downloading the firmware) can I later downgrade to 3.15 with the ps3 jailbreak?

What bin file ?

all you need to do is install openiboot on the ipod 1g or iphone 2g/3g,

then copy the android and zimage files from psgroove site over the privte/var folder on your ipod or iphone

and plug of the ps3 connect your ipod or iphone plugin the ps3 again press power button on the ipod iphone 2 times then the home button on the ipod iphone, then when you see the linux logo just press power button on the ps3 and then the eject button
that's all.

Gary , you have to download that separate. and put that in your usb flash drive, once you use the exploit and see the two folder, unplug the usb cable from you pc or what ever you use to do exploit, then plug in your usb flash drive with the back up manager, from there go to Installed Package , in there you will see a file that you can install.

I've noticed that my Ipod touch 1G will jailbreak a 3.41 Fat PS3 with no issue. However, It will not jailbreak my 3.41 slim. I don't know if there is a difference in software or how instructions are executed on slim vs fat. If any slim users have noticed this or heard of the problem does you know what the fix would be? I've noticed in the forums that people are suggesting to unplug the ipod after 6 lines of code have passed but this is also not working. I have successfully jailbroken my slim with a Nokia N810 so I know it works. The Nokia isn't mine unfortunately which is why i'm fighting with the ipod. So any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I'm pretty sure that soon, those of us who have an ipod touch 2g (maybe even 3g) will be able to do this ps3 mod. from what i understand, the hardware in the 1g touch allows openiboot to run. this is key in using it to mod your ps3. right now, a guy named JayWalker is really close to getting openiboot ported for ipod touch 2g, maybe 3g as well..not sure.
so if youre like me and have the 2g touch, i bet very soon we'll be able to do this too!

just in case, i downgraded my 2g touch from 4.0 to 3.1.2.
1. jb it with redsnow (latest build 5-5)
2. find a CUSTOM firmware 3.1.2 for your specific device.
3. open iTunes (i used latest v10), and put your device into recovery mode.
4. click OK to close the little prompt window. now hold Shift and click Restore. (for mac, i think you hold Option, then click Restore.)
5. browse to the COSTUM 3.1.2 fw you downloaded. (i renamed mine from iPod2_1_3.1.2_7D11_Custom_Restore to iPod2,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore. not sure if its necessary).
6. select it and let itunes do its thing. took 15mins or so, but worked great. now you can jb again with blackra1n.

I spend 1 day trying everything.
In the end I was able to run OpenIboot on my Iphone 3G (3.1.2), but when I try to JB my PS3 slim I have no success.
A couple of questions:
-Are the commands/lines that ran on iphone after OpenIboot the same compared with the other PSfreedom devices??? (in my case it runs first some commands in blue color and take a few seconds more than the tutorial videos, then it appears the pinguin and I do power+eject and NOTHING- "DEVICE3_WAIT_READY "
- Anyone with a PS3 slim has been successfull???
- On OpenIboot display, the "install" icon still there everytime that we power on the iphone??? Even after you do the install???
- On OpenIboot, when you do the "install", should the install finish and return to OpenIboot display or the Linux/pinguin will continue showing commands with no end???

Install iphodroid then downloads the 3g psfreedom in that there will be 2 files one called andriod and one called zimage. then all you have to do is copy those into private/ver you will see an andriod and zimage in there already just copy over them.
P.s
After you install iphodroid you phone will proberly go into recovery mode the first time you choos to boot into ios just use iphodroid to exit recoverey mode and all will be cool

iPhone 2G 3.1.2 Freshly Jailbroken With Redsnow
then i use iphodroid and click shoot ( running in admin mode )

everything goes threw but i do not get any option to install anything either on the pc or iphone screen it goes straight to apple logo then stays in recovery mode. exit recovery mode dose not exit the phone.... the only way to leave recovery mode is to reinstall the firmware but to 3.1.2

finaly got something that makes it work on slim model as well
many thanks to all the people spending time to look into this.

here a quick guide. (if you are jailbroken with redsn0w this should take less than 15 minutes)

1. you have to be jailbroken with redsn0w
2. download latest version of iphodroid for your device ( iphodroid.com)
3. download the psfreedom files for your device http://psfreedom.com/wiki/IOSL... (the iphodroid version from the wiki doesn't work for me for some reason?!?!)
4. unzip both and overwrite the 2 files in iPhoDroid_R13j_3G\Resources\iPh oDroid_image
with the psfreedom files
5. launch iphodroid with Administrator rights and click shoot

6. wait for the device to boot in openiboot (if you get stuck in recoverymode you probably forgot to run it with admin rights)

7. once in open iboot select the third option "install" (only the first time)
once you hit "install" one you can use the android logo

8. here comes the only tricky part // get the timing right for your device

i tried it 30 times with no success ...

furthermore i think it really does not matter how you get it running .. once you see the linux puppet you are good // turns out the only thing that really does matter is the timing

hi, i dont know wether im being a complete noob but iv done everything correct (i think). iv got iphodroid running correctly on my iphone 3g 16gb. jailbroke my ps3, installed backup manager, connected a USB hdd (25gb partition in fat32 of a 1tb hdd in ntfs) BUT.. when i load backup manager it shows the game in the drive but does not give me the option to do copy/load/exit. i have to then do a hard reset of the ps3. if i change the disc it recognises the change but again gives me no option. pleEeease HELP!!!!

All good except for the damn two folders which I can't get to show up on my PS3 for backup manager - tried two usb flash drives. Also reading all these comments, everyone seems to be having different issues. For me, it took several goes to install iphodroid correctly, and each time different shit happened until eventually things started to settle so my advice there is keep trying with the iphodroid app until you know its installed. Trust me, you know when it is. Frustratingly for me, no folders so no game on for me.

If this helps any one the first few times i ran iphodriod i did see it says install in tiny writning in the bottom corner of the openiboot screen press the volume down bottom twice to move down to it and then press home to install.

Quick question,

My iphone 3G is currently on JB 3.1.3, this was done with pwnagetool. I have the old pwnagetool custom firmware 3.1.2 from before that I can downgrade to via itunes. Just to note, I need ultrasn0w to unlock carrier.

Can I apply (or do I have to?) redsn0w jailbreak to my pwnagetool jailbreak? I am a bit confused by this as it states I need 3.1.2 JB via redsn0w.

I have an ipod touch 1g and have successfully jailbroken my PS3. But cannot get the backup manager to work. Its installed but whenever I try to load a backed up game or a disc game it just crashes back to the XMB. I am using the zimage from the ipod1g folder and the android from the iphone 3g. Any advice?

Im having trouble. I don't understand. When I click the install option. It starts to go through the prompt. It gets as far as the penguin icon and runs through for a bunch of lines and then starts to throw the "IMIT" line forever. Then a window pops up and says "A USB device needs more power". ur way of jailbreaking is ok but I know a much better way what is easyest of all...like..

1.power off then on ur ps3
2.put ur iphone in any usb por on any ps3 (fat or slim)
3.start or Launch Android
4.let the phone do his thing normaly till the INIT comes (Relax way)
5.press power and eject button (very important) keep the eject button pressed for 2 seconds.
6.and the most important part now...u should remove the usb cable as soon as u have seen those 6-7 lines...dont even give it a second..just remove..its like u say reday steady go..belive me just remove (otherwise u will have a back screen or error on backup manager...
7.put the backup manage.pkg in an usb or any fat32 formated HDD afterwards and installl

Hope It will solve the game in easy way...

OK I've got everything working from iPod G1. I can run backup manager and backup games, FTP server and copy games to the PS3. However, when I try and load a game from backup manager, it just goes back to the XMB and nothing has changed. If I try and load the game it just loads the game in the drive, not the image it should have mounted.

Any ideas?

The install tab is in red text and at the bottom left of the screen on your iPhone. Use the volume button to scroll down or up. Also, if iTunes opens up, click it off.

If you already pressed SHOOT and you see a bunch of the same text scrolling press & hold down the HOME button and the POWER button until your iPhone shuts off. Once it is off turn it on again by holding down the power button, you should see a UI with an Apple mark, Andriod mark, install, and uninstall. Here you press install. But from what I have noticed is that when you press SHOOT it installs the Open iBoot for you.

nah mate this don't work for me! just tried it for the 9th time!
soon as i click shoot it proceeds installing the touch driver then 3 parts with the droid on the skateboard! after that its proceeds installing'quadra' then my phone resets and wants to connect to itunes! bloody anoying!!

This may help some of you with a Slim and 1G Touch.

Finally got the app folder and install folder to pop up by modifying some of the instructions on this thread. This is what I did:

1) Unplug PS3
2) Plug Touch to right side USB
3) Plug PS3 back in
4) Start Android
5) As soon as I saw the Penguin, I hit Power and then eject (I did not hold down the eject button)
6) Watched the Touch as it tried to init and then saw code execution. About 9 lines show up with the last saying something about unregistered PSFreedom and unplugged Touch from Slim.
7) Done with App and Install folder showing up under game.

You need to update to 3.1.3 and then jailbreak with redsnow 0.9.4. I know it says you have to be on 3.1.2 and jailbreak with blackrain, but when I downgraded to 3.1.2 and jailbroke with blackrain, didn't work. Also you have to navigate with the powerbutton to get to install and hit enter with the home button when you get to the droid on your phone. Touch doesnt work at that point. (It is 3.1.2, in recovery mode and connected to ubuntu)

I did everything as mentioned in the tutorial. I can boot up an I see the two folders, I could even install Backup Manager 2 and FTP 1.1 .
The only problem is getting them to start. At first I got this Error 8something. Then I read to disconnect my iPod Touch 1st Gen. when the 6 lines appear.
Now I can launch FTP and BUM 2 but I just get a black screen.
Is there any solution to this ? I am pretty frustrated...
I own a 40gig ps3 fat with a broken drive.

I have two ps3 one that reads blue ray and the other don't. you need to get hermes payload to play back ups without the actual disk.I think that is why you can't get your homebrew apps to start. I suggest you try open manager to use your homebrew apps.

I found the problem. My BD drive was unplugged from the PS3. I opened it up to see what drive I have and saw that. Drive still won't work but now I don't get the black screen any more. If I understood the text above there should be BD EMU support and that should be enough. But even though you don't need a BD any more you still need a drive somehow !
Don't have a game right now but I am gonna keep you up to date if games launch anyways with my iTouch 1g

I just downloaded the latest files and noticed the modified time stamp on all the files were the same as the ones I was replacing. It doesn't work! I have tried with different playloads and after maybe around 30 tries I managed to boot Ratchet once then nothing. When runing game screen goes black then back to xmb over and over again. iphone port is very poor. If you have any other option try it before going to loose time on trying to do it on iphone.
