If i have to choose between playing GT5 or having homebrew & hacks.
I will be choosing GT5

im sure if ps3 games were $5 each you would still be downloading torrents for each game
admit it you just want shit for free

Everyone is screaming that they want homebrew but in reality the primary focus has been piracy from the start. If you are going to pirate, fine, but don't get upset when they block you from going online with said backups and ruining things for the other legit players.

Sony can suck it.
I host websites and I would love to know exactly how that DNS trick worked, exactly, so I could do it for myself.

We then have the same game developers having the cheek to slap on an extra $20 for an "extra features, unlock code" to access content on the disk which should already be free to begin with.
Ok.
I hope this hack will be a big kick in the balls to the game developers. While I understand its a business they should at least play fair and sell games at fair prices.
They need to have a better fairer business model.

Cant we downgrade the ps3 by using a new Hard Disk and install the FW 3.41 with an usb key ?

I also felt the same kind of thing when I was 8 and had 60+ original games in my collection. I even said "no" to a geek that suggested me to mod my Playstation for free at that time ('98). Where's that fucking time machine cinderella man?
This is the momentum I've always waited, I got my PS3 yesterday and I jailbroke it today. Have 9 games on it and I don't give a fuck to play 'em. I'm like a King and I feel anyone, who will reply with a sucky message to my own reply, my bitch! Don't be afraid, suck it!
Reply
Nope, you can't. The firmware is located in the internal memory independent from the HDD. Switching HDDs won't do the trick.
I have a question:
Let's say I have a device that is capable of "jailbreaking" my PS3. Is there a possibility that Sony will detect backup manager and homebrew applications that are on my HDD, after I have turned off the device?

So the safest way to avoid getting banned is to remove anything suspicious from the harddrive before connecting to PSN again, right? Assuming there will be another workaround for the forced FW update...

my bd-rom drive broke when i updated to 3.00 and along with hundreds other people after doing some googl'n sony dont accept that the update kills the drive... and want me pay £100 for them to fix it!
so i now have a fukin £450 doorstop! im still on 3.00 and intend to stay there until a hack comes out allowing me to play games directly from external without havin to use the drive ever!

I'm going to mod my ps3 but I'm not saying fuck off to the developers -- I'll still pay 60 bucks for any game I think it's worth it. Anyone who doesn't do that hurts the industry. Also anyone who buys a game at 60 bucks and screams it's to expensive -- is a fucking idiot. Do your homework and wait till it comes down. Otherwise it was your decision, shut the fuck up.

---- No. Sony can not read the hard drive of the PS3 when it is off. You are safe.

They will likely just keep deal with this like the PSP and simply lock us out of their online service through firmware updates.
It actually makes more sense than outright
Banning consoles....

In the "/Gamez" directory does it really matter to have the game folder have the Game ID number as the name? Or can you just name it anything you want?

My question is: if I upgrade the internal hard drive, will I be required to update the firmware, most likely the newest version? I might toy with the possibility of selling it later for a profit because I kept 3.41! :)

but the thing is, I would rather not just insult people on here and bring their pets into this and PS3s catching fire and all that shit. thats funny but unnecessary.
the point is, we have active discussions in here where hackers (who Sony is at war with, make no mistake about that) are openly discussing their options and next move strategies and whatever exploits are found. In the meantime Sony is keeping tabs on this stuff, and even hiring people to engage in psychological warfare (psy ops) on here and discredit valid ideas, throw people off track, make our most useful hacker assets leave the scene out of disgust, etc etc. Over half the people that were yelling at Geohot to "MAKE LOADER PLZ!!! FASTER FASTER!!!" and calling him a loser and all that other stuff, were most likely Sony psy ops. They know if they pester all the volunteer hackers we have trying to develop hacks for the scene, that eventually those hackers will get sick of the pressure and the bs and just leave, which is exactly whats been happening.
I would like to see Greg make a section of this site that is password only, and allow only a certain flow of traffic to enter there. It could be limited to those who have already proven themselves as contributors to the scene, it could be restricted to developers only, or maybe have a fee (something small like a dollar a month or even a penny, just so people have to use their credit cards), and then make a disclaimer that any affiliates or employees of Sony are not welcome inside that area and that if it is discovered that they breach that area they will face some form of legal prosecution. I dont know if you can get away with that but it would be nice, and even if you dont want to threaten Sony or charge people money, just the idea of a password area and limited traffic (you would have to apply to get in, not just sign up for a password), could severely cut down on Sony's intervention. Other related websites like PS3hax would have to go along with it too. It is in the best interest of everyone in the scene to think this through and realize that Sony is actually willing to hire people to invade these forums. You cant just stick your heads in the sand and ignore the problem.

Just a matter of the scene keeping up to date and progressing, Sony could be smart and start giving people what they want but thats not gonna happen.
In time people WILL crack the ps3 sec-code completely open and Sony will just haft to accept that some people will be pirates (Sony's target / bottom line goal $$$$), and will just need to police the network for those cheating bastards that plan to use home-brew to cheat in games like COD6 etc.. Just means adopting more security checks.
Homebrew will sell more PS3 consoles and likely bring more people to the ps3 whom will on occasion buy a ps3 game (we all do at some stage). Problem I think with companies these days is they want and desire people to spend ALL their money earned on buying titles, this is a very non-practical way to estimate the bottom-line, Just gotta accept that a pirate will buy maybe 1 Ps3 title per 9 they pirate and often those same people are VERY unlikely to buy those 10 titles if they couldn't pirate them.
Honestly all the people I have met whom work and have a decent income buy their titles because they can.. allot of pirates are poor as fck uni students/bums so they really never affect the bottom-line much anyway and their spending on genuine titles is pretty unpredictable and not very often (1-2 titles a year!).
Basically I can see cheaters and hackers of the PSN network being the real problem, not John Bum Uni student whom can't afford the titles anyway. Hopefully Sony doesn't get too carried away focusing on patching up to prevent backups being used, meanwhile the cheating/hacking groups move in because security INGAME has not been looked at.

I would be a hypocrite if I tried to say I wasnt looking forward to backing up some stuff, but I am actually really hoping for some amazing stuff to happen that can take us all to places Sony would never go. I'd like to see some AO homebrew, maybe some messed up clone of HOME where you can injure other players (kind of like in 'Society' in the movie GAMER). I'd love to see some pro audio music apps and drum machines, sample editors, synths, and maybe something that lets people work on music together across a network of PS3s. I'd really love to be able to edit copies of GTA4 and make myself indestructible for online gaming just to mess with people and be god-like haha. I would absolutely love to have some modified version of Little Big Planet or something very similar in its GUI, so that we can design our own games without having to know programming and then save them as actual PS3 isos that we can post for people to download and share. It would be cool to have an alternative to PSN, if anyone was able to create such a thing. Who knows, maybe there's a way to create an app based on the Life app, where all the hacked PS3s could be linked when not in use, and combine into an alternative game server platform people with hacked consoles can use to play online without PSN. If that doesnt work we could always try combining them into a super computer and use it to take over the world...heheheh

3.42 is needed to go on PSN (online)
Its so fucked, for all the linux users etc.
Sony says:
We got a lot users that are angry because they cannot use linux anymore...
There are a lot people that uses other os every day........
So sony is working on something, to use other os..., but...................
Dont know what i must do.... i want to play online.... but games are very expensive and i throw it away after weeks...

there is a way u can downgrade the ps3 slim , only works on slim because fat saves firmware on separate chip
slim saves on ur internal hardrive because this was to save as much space as possible so they could make the slim as small as possible
so either replace ur hardrive in ur slim or totally format ur hardrive using ur pc don't do it via the playstation menu as it will delete everything but the firmware so use ur pc delete everything off ur hardrive store game saves on pc then put them back to ur playstation hardrive search ur hardrive on ps for fw and what firmware ur currently on u might find it easyier that way
