Playing PS1 Backups with multiMAN on CFW

Submitted by greg; September 28, 2011

About a week ago I received this email, detailing how to boot and play PS1/PSX backups using multiMAN. At the time I thought it was common sense, but now, I guess not... As I'm seeing this method posted across several scene sites I figure I'll fill ya in too. It's actually extremely easy. So lets get to it: What you need:
  • A hacked PS3 running 3.55 (CFW) or 3.41 (w/ jailbreak dongle)
  • multiMAN 02.07.00 or later
  • A burned PS1/PSOne/PSX backup
Steps:
  1. Boot your PS3
  2. Insert your PS1 backup
  3. Start up multiMAN
  4. Enter file manager mode
  5. Browse to /dev_flash/ps1emu
  6. Press X on ps1_emu.self
  7. And if that crashes try ps1_netemu.self.
Now grab a coffee, sit back and enjoy them crusty lookin' PS1 games all over again. Also you should know Deank has released a new version of multiMAN, which will recognize your burned backups and can be directly launched from the XMMB game column. Download: multiMAN 02.07.06 - source: ps3crunch

will it work for multi-disc games (e.g.final fantasy)? Any chance of upscaling the games from 480p to at least 720p? Can I use cheat devices like gameshark discs or Pro Action Replay ?

Solution

- Turn on you PS3 console
- DONT open multiMAN
- In the GAME column look for “Memory Card Utility (PS/PS2)”
- Create a PS1 memory card
- Set it to Slot 1 (Press Triangle while selecting the Memory Card, then Assign it)
- Now, run multiMAN
- Insert your backup disc
- Load it
- Play
- Memory Card is in Slot 1, no need to mess with it anymore.

We need a way for multi-man to mount image files of these games and trick it into thinking it's the BD-drive. Maybe someone should just create a different homebrew that uses the ps1_emu and deals with .iso's and .bin's. Would be great!!

Personally, I'd love to see this happen within the CFW itself straight on the XMB. I don't like multi-man because it looks terrible on my SDTV :P But props to them for this.

Saves work perfect just dont put your backup disk in until you have opened multiman and keep the default "Internal Memory Card" name for the card.

Thanks for the answers!!! Yu're cool, but my problem was that I ran tha game from the file manager mode and in this way the ps3 doesn't recognize the memory card. the solution was enter on multiman and go to XMMB and ran the game for there

sorry for my english I'm intermediate 1 =/

what do you mean with "...go to XMMB and ran the game for there"?
After starting multiman i put the burned disc into but it doesnt appear at the multiman xmb...

Is the game column the multiman xmb?

Starting from File Manager seams to work but without memory card support...

have sure that you have multiMAN 02.07.00 or later!!!

turn on your ps3, start multiman, go to xmb column, then put your burned ps1 game, wait some seconds and a disc without icon will appear, just run and enjoy :) tell me if you can't I will make a video tutorial xD
