Remember the Wipeout Pure "hidden browser" hack for the PSP? Maybe you do, maybe you don't; in any case, this method to circumvent the PS3 firmware check works in a similar manner by hijacking DNS requests and redirecting you elsewhere. The concept is actually quite simple...

You may have seen this video on YouTube...
To go along with the video is a semi-tedious tutorial courtesy of "hacked2123" --
Since most of us don't have bluray drives for our PC we have PS3 to aid us in our backup process. This is the complete

A hacker by the name of Arnezami has successfully cracked Blu-Ray AACS-locked discs...
Arnezami, a hacker on the Doom9 forum, has published a crack for extracting the "processing key" from a high-def DVD player. This key can be used to gain access to every single Blu-Ray and HD-DVD disc. Previously, another Doom9 user called Muslix64 had broken both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD by extracting the "volume keys" for each disc, a cumbersome process.

I've been waiting for this since the North American release day -- background downloading! It's reported that firmware update 1.6, available come March, will include the ability to download PlayStation Store items in the background while doing whatever else on your PS3. Multi-tasking, ooooooh yeaaaah!
GI: Well, it was very important, especially for me. There was all of this talk about the big update when the console hits Europe in March. You mentioned today, background downloads.

Sony certainly won't let up -- firmware 1.51 is now available via Network Update on your PS3 console. Nothing worthwhile really... According to their website the support for PLAYSTATION®3 format software titles has been expanded. And that's all folks! If you desire you can also download it here: PS3 1.51 Firmware Update Thanks knockout541.

I'm quite sure you have all read about the speculated PS3 ISO Loader from Paradox, right? We've all been waiting and wanting to know more... But oddly enough, I have yet to mention it here on PS3 Hacks... Why? Perhaps I was a bit skeptical, maybe I'm a slacker? I don't know...

Update (24-01-07): It has been officially announced on the Playstation website. You'll now find the download and updated change log below...
Update (24-01-07): As anticipated PS3 firmware 1.50 is now available -- for both Japanese and North America. You can fetch it via Network Update.
Apparently the Japanese will bear witness to PS3 firmware 1.50 tomorrow. It wouldn't surprise me if it hits North America as well; same day or shortly after.

I'm a huge Fight Night [Round 3] fanatic... Whether it be for the 360, PSP, or PS3, I will kick your ass. Now, I'm well aware this isn't a hack, but it's damn cool that this guy actually took the time to compile a website with formulas (and screenshots) to easily create your own custom boxers. I was actually on the hunt for something resembling Rocky Balboa and I landed on this site.

Easily turn your PS3 into a personal video recorder using Linux and the Plextor ConvertX DVR TV402U. MythTV, the homebrew PVR project, works great under PS3 Linux using GO7007 Video4Linux2 driver with the provided patches. Patches:
GO7007 driver lacks compat ioctl routines for 32bit userland/64bit kernel configuration. And Video4Linux2's compat-ioctl32.c seems quite incomplete. These patches fix the problem on PS3 Linux.

Team Xecuter has posted an update with regard to their PS3 Hyperdrive. The design is finished; however, there's no mention of a scheduled release date yet. Looking at the image below, I truly hope this doesn't prevent you from standing the PS3 vertically...

Hey! I just received this email from the PlayStation Underground:
Our records indicate that you downloaded Gran Turismo HD Concept from the PLAYSTATION(R)Store. Version 1.1 is now available for download, which refines the gameplay experience in Time Trial mode and the accuracy of lap times within the online rankings. Since online ranking results recorded by version 1.1 players will be given priority, it is highly recommended that you download and install it if you are playing the earlier version.

Sony's PS3 open-platform concept is proving to be pretty cool... rerofumi has released a modified boot cd which when loaded using the "Other OS" boot loader allows you to play the homebrew game, "Lunavader." This is accomplished without actually installing Linux on your PS3's hard disk. You will however have to install the "Other OS" loader and create the corresponding HDD partition.

diabolix has successfully compiled an Xbox 360 controller driver for Fedora Core 5. What exactly does this mean? Well if you're running linux on your PS3 you can now use your wired Xbox360 controller with it! Its been tested with Snes9x and Doom under FC5-PPC. Copy this installer to your PS3's HDD linux partition and connect your controller via USB.

Here's a clever method to replace the existing 20GB/60GB 2.5" PS3 HDD with a 3.5" SATA drive. As you may, or may not know, 3.5" SATA drives are usually much larger (capacity-wise) and faster; not to mention cheaper.
If you're like me, my 60GB PS3 does not have the storage capacity that I require. I am running Yellow Dog Linux and I'm going to need more room on the HD for installs and files that I want locally. That little 10GB partition the PS3 XMB is using is going quick; all those demos and videos that the Sony store is dumping is really beginning to add up.
