No Pre-Owned Games?! Forget It!

Submitted by UnashamedVandal; May 14, 2012

Remade games are always great for the gaming scene, but what about replaying games? Games are expensive and they dont seem to be getting any cheaper, however this is something we have come to except, yet fearful gamers always had pre-owned titles to rely on...until recently that is. Microsoft and Sony had huge rumours radiating across the internet, this wasnt just a standard rumour...it was a hideous one. Both the big dogs were going to say no to pre-owned games and their next generation consoles were rumoured to block them, suddenly the next generation of gaming was slipping into darkness. Worry no more ladies and gentlemen, well not too much I suppose. For those of you that dont know, Jack Tretton is the CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America and his views on the situation are much different from the rumours that have been circulating. Tretton appeals against the rumours and says that the idea of blocking pre-owned games is anti-consumer, and this isn't particularly like Sony (pure sarcasm *cough* Welcome Back Package). Yet with such a huge part of the Sony group against the cause, this must surely affect the outcome of this possible out rage. My Official Dashhacks Twitter - Follow me guys! maybe this time we will have to stick with PC games. Hardware is expensiver, but, games are cheaper.

It was kind of weird that sony would do such a dumb thing, even dumber than removing otherOS (the only thing keeping hackers at bay).

"accept" not "except"

They'll probably just keep on doing what they're doing now : block online functionality unless you put in a code that is only useable once. It would be an OK system if it allowed for more than 1 PS4 assigned to the same code ( like 3 maximum). Otherwise, you couldn't even lend your friend your game for him to try...

keep used games but have decent cheap dlc...   then when u buy a used game you like youll be inclined to spend money on the dlc and the developers can make extra money that way.  used games are a vital part of the ecosystem.  almost every other industry survives with used sales so the game industry can surely survive too.      without used sales more people will hold off of day one purchases and wait for the price to drop.. potentially losing interest in that game and not even buying it in the long run.    people would think twice about paying £45 for a game if they knew they couldnt sell it on at some point.    hopefully the rest of sony agrees with jack tretton...

Even if the head of Sony were to call something "anti-consumer", it's not like that has ever stopped them before, and it's not like that will stop them now or in the future.

I say let them speak with their actions; their words are never trustable.
