New Task for PS3MFW: Disable Cinavia DRM Checks

Submitted by greg; July 31, 2011

Anyone affected or annoyed by Cinavia DRM checks? Disable 'em! Now you can thanks to tical and his recent discoveries. Released fresh is a new task for PS3 Modified Firmware (PS3MFW) Builder. Here is what tical had to say:
I have traced the Cinavia DRM checks to 4 separate sprx files and after a long time trying to patch these files I have found that 3 of those files are present in the DEBUG (DEX) firmware don't have the Cinavia DRM checks enabled. Files are videoplayer_util sprx, videoplayer_plugin sprx and videoeditor_plugin sprx.
So when you build a modified (or custom) firmware using PS3MFW Builder these DRM checks are disabled; however, that is only for DLNA playback ... these checks are still present when watching AVCHD and/or BD videos, but maybe someone'll patch that too -- to quote tical once again, "If someone is able to patch Cinavia out of bdp_plugin sprx this will be solved too." Download: Disable Cinavia DRM Task - source: psx-scene via git-hacks

Cinavia has ruined my life, so was the fact that sony slipped it in with an update and never alerted us that updating would add it

Out of curiousity, why would they alert about this? If you have the original movies, is there a problem to play them?

ruined your life?? theres only a 13 bluray titles with cinavia.lol.  and half of them arent that great :P         cinavia is part of the AACS requirements from 2009 ... nothing to do with sony. theyre just following the rules which all manufacturers have comply with.   eventually ALL players will be required to implement cinavia...  youll see it on more and more standalones as the other manufacturers catch up.

and as yep yep says...its only a problem if you pirate movies. so why would anyone say theyve implemented an anti piracy protection?   so theres no effect to people who buy the original movies.

this is cool news though. if they can identify the the DRM check then maybe they can trace how it does it and find a way to remove the cinavia in the first place.

Cinavia protection is applied also for DLNA playback so also in case you have original media and you will make copy to your mediacenter PC, you can't play it(stream it) on PS3.
Cinavia have to be applied for every new Blue-ray player but that it is applied also for DLNA, it is Sony activity.
This DLNA restriction will deny you to play your original medias via DLNA = degradation of whole PS3 when not used for games only...

Ok, i see. But cant you just insert the disc in the PS3 directly? I know that streaming can be nice, but from what i have seen after doing a Google check, it doesnt seem that THAT many movies uses Cinavia, so i guess that it is not that big of a problem :)

would this fix the bd playback???? No!!! Cuz I done tried. But I got lucky and didn't even need the DRL GEN 0.9. I installed RE3UG OOS++3.55.2 plus the update that came out a couple of dayz after it or wut ever. Desided I wanted KMEAW cfw, so I started to install it from RECOVEY menu. Failed at 70%. I took the HD from a spare system and installed it in. I read some were on line that you could do that if the up date failed at 70% cause it was a blue tooth cencor deal and it sould work. So Im sure you could take that HD out of the system, and formated it. The PS3 Restarted BRAND NEW!!!!!!! But now if I use PS3 Modified Firmware (PS3MFW) Builder, It want play BluRays, but will get rid of the Trophey Reg. ERROR!!! If I install KMEAWS cfw It will play Blu Rays. Isn't that some fucked up shit!?

Not relevant to the topic, but to the website.

Dash Hacks should have an application for iPhone/Android phones.  Nice suave colours for each sub-site on Dash Hacks, a home page with links to articles etc, and 5 tabs along the top to read up on PSP, PS3, Xbox, Kinect and iPhone hacks.

Why doesn't everyone change the audio settings (google how to bypass cinevia) It's just changing a couple settings, and that's it.  And every movie that I have downloaded (The Social Network, Avatar, Due Date, and a lot more) have worked perfectly. I was worried about Cinevia for a while, but now there's no problem.

If you ever download a an R5 movie(russian picture, different sound) then the picture will almost certainly be protected and then ciniva rears its ugly head. I have had this shit with al sorts of copied movies, old and new.

If you want to watch tried and tested movies a good site to download direct to your ps3 is http://ps3divx.net

Like someone mentioned they just slipped this ciniva shit in there with a bluray update. Sneaky little cunts.
