New Downgrade (for E3 Card Reader) Fixing Blu-ray Issues

This'll hopefully correct those issues relating to Blu-ray movie playback after downgrading. Well that is if you haven't downgraded already ... for those who have and still remain BD-movie-less, I'm sorry -- I don't know what to tell you. Anyone in the know? Leave a comment. The official distributer of E3 Card Reader in Asia has released a fix, tagged as beta, which should keep Blu-ray playback intact after downgrading. The Central Scrutinizer from psx-scene explains it:

What is the difference with old original E3downgrader firmware? After the Power/Eject cycle with the old downgrader firmware, and most of the cloned downgrader firmwares it will continue to allow the PS3 to power-up until the full PS3 XMB menu boots-up, this was the point were the Blu-Ray Movie playback got destroyed. With our new E3 Downgrader firmware, it cause the PS3 to switch off right away after doing the Factory/Service handshake without booting into the XMB menu, protecting the contents of your flash.

I noticed that... My PS Jailbreak downgrade automatically switched off and my initial E3 Card Reader attempt did not. Mind you, I never completed the downgrade with E3 Card Reader, only PS Jailbreak. Download: E3 Card Reader Downgrade Fix (drop .bin to "E3Upgrader" and follow this tutorial) Update: Have you downgraded previously and you cannot play/watch any Blu-ray movies? GideonOmega shares this knowledge:

from what I understand to fix the blue ray playback issues (with a fat anyways) -- downgrade to 2.10 then do a normal update to 3.41

Just tried it on my phat pal still no blu ray maybe doesnt restore anything just prevents losing blu ray on entering service mode i dunno :(

May i interrupt for a sec? Ok, yesterday i changed my internal ps3 hdd and i was on 3.41. This particular firmware have some issues regarding the new internal drive recognition. So i thought... here i have a teensy 2.0 with the ps grade hexes so maybe i should give it a try and downgrade the ps3 to perhaps 3.15 firmware and get that drive going. Just did that and man it was good to get the other os option again. OK so then i intalled the new drive and after that i just thought, oh well let's give the 3.50 a chance so i can play 5 minutes of gt5. So i upgraded to 3.50. When i was really bored (about 3 minutes later) i decided to get back to 3.15, explore the other os for 2 or 3 hours and then got back to 3.41. Only after doing that i remebered about the Blu Ray issues but when i tried a BD it worked like a charm.
So i tried that with a non Jailbroken PS3. 1st to 3.15 and then to 3.41... and it worked no issues reading BD at all.

Does anyone know if the blu-ray issue occurs with a 320gb slim or does it only occur with the fat ps3s? I just got my 320gb slim delivered today with 3.50 factory installed :(

@sj: if your unit is CECH-2512B that comes preinstalled with 3.50 please tell me if you are able to downgrade it successfully. I've been trying for 3 days using various FW but I can only get it to accept 3.50, so no JB.

Well tried the downgrade to 2.10, then tried the Non-Mod 3.41 to try and regain the Blu-Ray function. It did not work!
Fat Ps3.
Also tried the new Multi-man and that also will not play Blu-Ray.

I guess I will have to wait for some kind of update.

good news!!! i'm still on 3.50 ofw in my slim 250gb and i'm waiting for a guide or a video that will help me downgrade without loosing any featsures... up untill now noone has confirmed that u can do that (on a slim). so PLEASE someone help...

Tryed the downgrade to 2.10 and update to 3.41 and it dint work at all so hope there's a fix for the blue ray soon

most of the problems seem to be with the phat. so until proper numbers are taken try it out and report the out come but from my data you should have a 90ish% chance of success.

When I downgraded to 2.10 it wouldn't let me upgrade to 3.41 even with the 3.41 OFW xD

I tried all types of ways even from updating with the OFW in my flash drive, still no luck so I was forced to update to 3.50

Looks like I'm buying a slim from my friend to solve this mess!

ok to my understanding it has something todo with the payload to get into service mod it ever corrups the bluray part of the system or the payload was to big and pushs it out sorta thing so wipes it off if you have a back up of your vsh folder or someone elses im guessing it would work if you over ride it not shore need an expert to try that one lol

I´ve down and upgraded my ps3 slim a few times (i wanted to try to go to 3.15,my ps3 was shipped with 3.21)cause the downgrade to 3.15 wasn`t work,i try`d nearly all firmwares but i can`t go under 3.21(manufacturing update error)
I backuped my flash3 before downgrading
after going back to 3.41 and ftp`ìng FLASH_3 back i wasn`t able to play AVCHD`s from my HDD only got a green screen or it freezes.
Now i got a solution for me hope this helps U2
try SIMPLE AVCHD MANAGER choose 1 of u`r movies on USB-HDD
and play it on VIDEO Menü.
I can play BD-Discs too but only in non-jailbreaked mode

theres a simple fix gorgo and wanikoko has fixed for this

go into service mode hold triangle until a option comes up say do you want to test
click yes then update it will update to what firmware u want as long u use the ps3 webbrowser and install the fimrware through that way

WHAT?!?! REally?!?! has someone tested this out? Im affraid to put my fat ps3 to service mode after hearing everyones BRD's dying. someone try this? please post results... for some reason i thought service mode disabled your network card, but i might be wrong.

while this is true, i still think it may have something to do with the firmware, i have heard a report that users were able to downgrade their console without the modified .PUP and it had no effect on the bluray playback. most likely the modified pup was created with debug console files and since debug units can not play blurays neither could a unit using the custom .PUP made from debug .PUP

why don't someone one with 3.15 and no blu-ray try to enter restore mode, and then restore 3.15 from a usb stick? maybe that will "re-marry" the console and the blu-ray? maybe not but worth a try!(restore mode as in hold the power down, then hold it down till it beeps twice and let go...) hope this helps someone, i have 2 fats to downgrade...

I downgraded my slim 250GB ps3 today Using the beta E3 downgrade bin, and the updated 3.41 PUP posted after the BD issue was discovered. After a successful Install have FULL BLURAY SUPPORT. 250GB SLIM OWNERS, THE E3 CARD WITH THIS .BIN AND THE UPDATED 3.41 PUP WORKS!!!!

i tried going back to 3.50 and it didnt give me the blu-ray back so other word plan on 1 long day if u want to get ur blu-ray back. u might have to downgrade to every firm from 3.41 to 2.10 so that mean theres alot to download then go back to 3.41 but installing every firmware in the middle we have to do it with the psp and it looks like the ps3 is built the same way or edit the vsh of the ps3 i dont know about u guys i dont got alot of time on my hands so im heading to the vsh

I got that same error and got it fixed by holding power button and then the 3.41 modded pup fresh install no blueray atm hmmmm did u do a flash install of acid or the safe usb install ?

ok i think i know what u mean when u downgraded ur ps3 hold the power button in when i boot the 3.41 off the flash drive in stead of just turning it on and letting it install right im going to try that now i cant hert it i already bricked it once when i went to 2.10 from 3.41 that was the log from that i was ive bricked my psp many time but i got pandora for it

ive tried downgrading 1 by 1 started from 3.50 all the way to 2.30 but cant get 2.20 , 2.17 , or 2.10 to work it starts then 5 to 10 seconds my power light starts flashing is there another way to load the firmware then flashdrive

one thing u guys got to remember ps3 is built like the psp codes and security is different but mostly the same what u can do on ur hacked psp u can do on ur ps3 but 10 time more ya we were going to loose something or more then one thing psn and blu-ray there just locked not gone

i have found a way to get bd-player back but i need some files to try it my self there in this path

dev_hdd0 i need the files from there the hole folder i found in it some file called

boot.prp
update.prp
update1.prp
update3.prp theres other files to but im not going to name them tho i need from a working blu-ray please slim or fat i perfer both

Well, it's only been 6 weeks since I ordered the E3 card reader and it still hasn't arrived. Correspodance with them just gives me the China post online tracking, it has "departure from office to Australia" 22nd Dec 2010. What a JOKE..

I'm going to be play backups on a properly JB'ed 3.55 PS3 probably before this (ever?) arrives. I was hoping it arrived before Christmas so I had 2+ weeks of downgrading from 3.50 to 3.41 to JB again as I bought GT5, I haven't even turned on the PS3 in 2-3 weeks as I'm bored crapless over GT5 and it's the only game I bought, bit hard seeing as I'm a disabled pensioner with a newly started family to spend $$ on expensive overpriced games here in Aus. *sigh*
