Netflix on Your Hacked PS3

Submitted by greg; September 14, 2011

Who's got a Cobra USB? If that's you and you have a Netflix account, or access to one, then peep game: You can now watch Netflix on your hacked (or jail broken) PS3! This revelation stems from Nodieza at ps3hax. There is a [rare] Netflix disc (ISO) for PS2 floating around; if you download that, burn it to a disc, then fire it up on your Cobra-hacked PS3, you'll be jammin' Netflix -- no PSN required. Mind you it lacks HD support, which for me, would be a showstopper. Nonetheless, good lookin', Nodieza. P.S. The ISO image is padded, which explains the file size difference after extracting the compressed RAR archive.

Before Netflix launched for the PS3 OFFICIALLY as a XMB package, Netflix gave out a software disc (upon request) for the PS3 that would enable access to Netflix ONLY if you had the disc popped in. That's why many of you must be like "Wtf? I never heard of such disc for the PS2!" because it was initially a disc for the PS3. It could be possible that they made one available for the PS2 for other countries who lacked a PS3 in every sense of the matter but I won't rule that possibility out since I just read that thread post Greg linked us.
I wonder if I still have mine lying around and see if it is any different from the PS2 version.

Edit: More info on this via http://www.joystiq.com/2009/10...

Dunno if it's any similar to this PS2 disc version but it reminds me so much of it haha but still this is great news none the less!

"You agree that you will not use any unauthorized hardware, including peripherals not sold or licensed by a Sony company such as non-licensed game enhancement devices, controllers, adaptors and power supply devices (collectively, "Non-Licensed Peripherals") or unauthorized software to access or use Sony Online Services or any content or service provided on or through Sony Online Services."

It is just standard stuff, here is what the Xbox Live Terms of Serive says in comparison:

1.  This Is a Contract between You and Microsoft.

"You must not:

- Use any unauthorized third-party software, service, or device to access the Service;- Disrupt, or try to gain unauthorized access to any account, computer, hardware, or network related to the Service;

- Obtain (or try to obtain) any data from the Service or related
hardware, except data that we intend to provide or make available to you

- Use the Service or related hardware to design, develop, or update unauthorized software;

- Use or distribute unauthorized cheats, macros, or scripts; or

- Exploit a bug, or make an unauthorized modification, to any
software or data to gain unfair advantage in a game, contest, or promotion"

And here is what Nintendo says about using Wii online:

"Your Wii Console and the Wii Network Service are not designed for use with unauthorized software, services, or devices or non-licensed accessories, and you may not use any of these with your Wii Console or the Wii Network Service. Such use may be illegal, voids any warranty, and is a breach of this agreement. Such use may also lead to injury to you or others or cause performance issues or damage to your Wii Console or the Wii Network Service. We (and our licensees and distributors) are not responsible for damage or loss caused by unauthorized software, services or devices or non-licensed accessories. We may take steps to disable or delete any unauthorized software, services or device installed in your Wii Console, for example, by detecting and disabling them through the Wii Network Service and/or game software. If we detect unauthorized software, services, or devices, your access to the Wii Network Service may be disabled and/or the Wii Console or games may be unplayable."

Personally i dont see much wrong with this since it is about their online services. Since it is their networks, they decide what they want to allow on their networks =)

If you're like me, you have your PC hooked up to your TV via HDMI anyway. Therefore, no point.
