For those who owned a PS2 Slim, remember the old "homemade" way of modding the console to run PS1 backups with a bit of sticky tape? Well, it seems the exact same method is back with the PS3 Super Slim.

 

Unfortunately, the methods on how to do this are quite the difficult ones, and may require the skill to be able to do so. This method means having the disc cover left open.  Its quite similar to what was done to the Fat PS3′s back in 2007 to get them to run PS2 disc based backups. As shown it is a risky process as you may damage the spindle inside the PS3 while making the quick swap. Is it really worth it though?

Spindle probably cost 5$ ;) Why always referring to the ps2 this swap trick was done on the ps1 also ;)

Works perfectly.. tho i discovered the trick from another site ;)..

ive only tried FFX and it works fine ;) if Sony had actually released FFX officially for the PS3/Vita i would have actually gone Legit on the Ps3 .. guess i dont need to now eh

Nah my test was the CFW 4.30 stuff (Not the disk swap trick).. downloaded FFX iso did the encryption thingo and copied it onto the Ps3.. i'll test out Rtype Final another day.. i have that Iso aswell.. im pretty keen to try Jade Cocoon (i honestly cant remember if that was a Ps1 or Ps2 game tho ;)) i have its Iso and will probably test that one last even tho it was an awesome game too

ok, thanks for the answer, i have a slim model 4.31 ofw unfortunetly,so I think ps2 backups are not going to work :-?

I'm currently playing an undub version of Tales of the Abyss, I know that actually it's not a full modified game, cause it just swaps the spoken language, but it works flawlessly so far...

The second I saw the new ps3, I thought, "Oh hey Sony is bringing the swap trick back". Pretty nice of those as#**U%( to help a little with the modding process.

There is a better way to do it, insert a PS1 game and wait on the XMB for about 5-8 minutes the disc will stop spinning and you can swap it without damaging the spindle.
