LG Accuses Sony of Patent Infringement

Sony with a little legal trouble of their own... As the title suggests, LG Electronics in Seoul of South Korea are making claims against Sony -- Sony is apparently infringing on two of LG's patents with respect to how the PS3 renders Blu-ray data. LG is demanding an immediate investigation by the International Trade Commission and wants them to halt sales of the PS3 in the United States. Wow, imagine that. It makes me wonder what took LG so long to figure this out; I mean the PS3 has been on store shelves for nearly 5 years ... did LG jailbreak the PS3 in order to find and claim patent infringement? this is standard patent battling... one company accuses another of patent infringents, the other responds by accusing them back. they then make a deal to swap or share patents and everyones happy. LG has no intention or desire to stop sony selling ps3s. this is purely a negotiation tactic and a defensive response to sonys claims. (which is why theyve only now mentioned these infringements) this type of thing has been going on for aslong as theres been patents. for some reason the media has decided to blow this particular exchange out of proportion...

LG Knew about the patents long ago, but they only sued them today for 1 or 2 reasons.

1.) Sony sued LG first for infringing on some patented mobile phone hardware that LG is using. Now LG decided to use their muscle and sue them back for using their blu-ray tech.

2.) Cause Sony is a bitch, and LG only realized it after reason 1 and sueing little people.

Sony didnt make the first blue ray player lol, They just made the cheapest at the time when the ps3 was first made. The others where selling for over 1,000$ USD easy.
There 3 differnt lights that read by the CD rom
Red
blue= aka blue ray
white (I'm not sure 100% on this one)
Only 2 of them been made for normal markets
your CD players then your DVD players
now your blue ray media players

Yes they were sony developed the 1st blu-ray player with pioneer it was released as the sony BDZ-S77 it was shown at a convention in 2000 and released in 2003 at a cool $3800 the delay in release was due to the fact that the disc had to be real close to the laser causeing disc scratching they then developed the hard coating

Yesturday, my Emotion Engine started going bad, (The system would shut off and flash the red light when I'd open a PS2 game). If LG released a console what features would you like with it?

PC's have massive potential bigger than any games consol. Would you prefer consoles to be standardized?

i.e When new disk technoligy is released you can just swap your old one for a new one.
Replaceable RAM and Replacible graphics cards.

Obviously the specific consol creator would have to produce the upgradable parts so Nvidia would rekease better PS3 Graphics cards ect.

I think games consoles should go down this rout does any one agree?

And for those who are uneducated on the topic of lights:
Red, found in the diodes of nearly every dvd and cd player, had the longest wavelength of 700 nanometers. Violet, found in blu-ray players, has the shortest wavelength of 420 nanometer. With the shorter wavelength, it is able to write data in a more precise spot, thus being able to put more on a disc.
The only thing that could do more than a blu-ray laser, is near ultraviolet and far ultraviolet rays at 300 nanometers and less than 200 nanometers, respectively. Those are highly impractical though, in nearly every way.

Just wanted to throw that out there so all of you would quit bitching and complaining on which color is better, what is next, etc.

As for LG vs Sony... I have a problem with neither of them. While yes, I have a PS3, I also have a Wii and Xbox 360, and dreamcast. So I'm completely mutual on everyone, but I do hope LG wins over Sony. Just because I never hear much from LG.

The music play on my PSP, i try to sync the music to the psp with windows meida player and it WONT WORK!! and if there is a song that will go on it says on the psp that there are no songs! but some of my memory stick is used up....im confused plz someone help

Umm...That still doesn't mean that LG can't hold patents. BTW, if you RTFA, you'd see that they do indeed have Blu-Ray patents.

From TFA (that you didn't read): "There are four patents at issue (PDF) for the Playstation 3. Patent '835 relates to managing data streams, '080 is a method for reproducing data, '961 is a storage patent for reproducing data, and '398 is a text subtitle steam."

Do any of you realise that if sony just gives up and moves on from the Ps3, that they will end up releasing another console. Now, this may not affect anyone directly, but do you think they'll still be making games for their left-behind, hacked console? Of course not. Where does that leave the hacking community?
With a whole load of hacked ps3's....that wont get any new games which makes about 70% of hackings pointless.

well they do still make games for the ps2 and psp. they stopped supporting and development on the ps2 even though unlike the psp it is not hacked all to hell. and with the NGP im pretty sure they will stop supporting the psp but still make games for it
