JB2 Goes True Blue, Jailbreak Dongle for 3.55

Submitted by greg; October 26, 2011

It's true and it's blue ... now what's Sony gonna do when the latest jail breaking dongle comes to modshops near you. The "True Blue" dongle behaves similar to earlier jailbreak devices; however, this one supports firmware 3.60+ required games, up to 3.73, and does not require the power/eject trick. And no -- no PSN access. But if you've managed to keep your PS3 at 3.55 or lower, then True Blue is for you. True Blue requires a "special" BD-R disc for 3.60+ games to work; these blank Blu-ray discs will be available from official resellers as well. Once we know the resellers we'll share 'em with you. So you will require the dongle + these particular discs for everything to work properly ... at least for now anyway. True Blue Features
  • Booting of games from v3.6+ (up to v3.73) from special BD-R discs available from official resellers
  • Runs games up to v3.56 from HDD in conjunction with 'backup managers'
  • Does not require the Power/Eject trick
  • Custom v3.55 Dongle firmware behaves like OFW when 'True Blue' is not inserted
  • Manufactured from highest grade components and Actel based
  • Durable and high quality metal case design
  • Tough and durable plastic packaging
  • Further features to be added as they are developed
  • On board 2 MBytes SPI flash
  • Supports Fat and Slim consoles currently running any firmware up to v3.55
  • And any PS3 which can be downgraded from v3.6+ to v3.55 (NOTE: Requires other tools, 'True Blue' currently can't downgrade a Console)
  • Supports all regions of consoles
  • Supports all regions of ISOs to be released
  • Rock solid crystal oscillator on board for flawless timing
The 'True Blue' dongle allows booting of the latest the ISOs (3.6+) from special BD-R discs which can be purchased from all official resellers. The discs can be burned by any BD-R recorder and there are no special requirements on either PC or BD burner types. Whilst we can disclose that the discs are specially manufactured to allow booting of the latest ISOs, further technical information on the way by which the BD-R discs can allow booting cannot be provided, for obvious reasons.

A blu-ray burner I could swing, but special discs?

Will this at least allow me to play originals without having to update my system software?

The 3.56+ games I care about probably total less to purchase than the cost of a blu-ray burner, let having to worry about price and availability of these special discs.

Any idea whether or not this will allow the use of original 3.56+ discs without a system update?

If these 'magic' blanks never materialize, it'd be nice to have a simple solution for grabbing a game or two from redbox once in a while while staying 3.55.

possible dumb question, but will this jailbreak allow for original 3.60+ games to be played, rather than burned versions on 3.55

It won't work on original disks, because the way it works is by replacing the eboot with a debug version, and including the debug keys in the dongle.

Can't be bothered with dongles and BD-R discs.

Hopefully, a CFW for 3.70+ will available very soon as I definitely want backup of Uncharted 3. Don't think this will be available before Christmas however.

I think this is the most inconvenient hack ever to be released in this scene. Honestly, Purchasing a dongle, purchasing special (not to mention most likely expensive) Blank Blu-ray discs, burning game's onto them with a Blu-ray Writer most will need to purchase, this is the exact definition of infeasible.

Maybe if this provided a new spoofing mechanism that actually allowed some online play without the risk of being banned it would be worth it, but just to play some offline games? I for one am not spending $200 to go to the effort of burning all the games sitting on my harddrive waiting quietly next to my playstation for a 3.60+ custom firmware to be released, to some Blu-ray Disks that will most likely become as useless as this method of jailbreak when some decent CFW is released soon. It'll just be like all the dongles for 3.41 jailbreak that cost >$50 and are now totally inferior to the 3.55 CFW abundantly available.

Kudos to these guyz for coming up with something atleast.
