Pros: Cheats Will Get You Out Of a Tough Spot

Whether we want to admit it or not, we've all been in this situation before: there is just one small portion of a game you can't seem to beat or figure out, and no matter how hard you try it's just not going to happen. You've read the guides a million times over, checked walkthrough videos on YouTube, and you are still coming up empty handed. What's a gamer to do? Should they put the game down and possibly call it a waste of sixty dollars that they can't finish? If only there was something they could do to get them past that single rough patch so they could move on through the plot.

But wait, there is, and it's called cheating! Again this point may come off as a no-no to a lot of you real hardcore players, but should we really just stop playing of there is one small thing we can't figure out. When you're truly that kind of stuck, cheats can be good because at the very least they give you some kind of paddle to get up the creek should you want to use it. A lot of us may not be proud of it, but I sense that we have all relied on a cheat or two before in times like this. The most honest of gamers will only use them to help them in that one spot, and sometimes it allows you to get to some of the best moments in the game rather than sitting on your couch crying about having nothing to do. Sometimes games can be frustrating, cheats can help; but only if you want them to.

So we've hashed out the pros and cons. My views are discussed on the last page!

I find cheating a valuable took for replaying games and creaating a new and fun experience. Take Diablo 2 for an example. I have beat the game on the highest difficulty without cheating before. But sometimes I want to have fun without countless hours of grinding, just level up a bit to get off a plateau. Or to try a new build with savegame editing instead of starting a new char from scratch.

I only approve cheating in single player mode and after I have beaten the game. If you have to cheat online to win, go do something else.

The only time I can recall cheating was the infamous U-U-D-D-L-R-L-R-B-A-B-A cheat because the game was too hard for me... And the other time was when I was enjoying those 5 minute starcraft custom games loaded with cheats, but soon enough I no longer find it fun and stopped using cheats for good.

Although I do agree about using cheats when its absolutely necessary (not all gamers can finish Contra without the 30 lives), but I have to respectfully disagree when you say that the Developers dont intend for you to use cheats. Because they wont be coded by the developers themselves in that game if they dont intend to. Perhaps the better term would be, they wouldnt recommend (rather than intend) for gamers to use the cheats, thats why they are called cheats. but to each their own :)

I see mods as a good and bad thing also. It just depends on how you use them. I will admit I love to mod online lobbies on GTA and around 75% of the players in the game love them too! There's nothing players like more than to see you doing something impossible in a game and enjoying the modifications with you.

a cheat is very different to a hack.
a cheat is intended by the developer in order to get out of a tough spot, a hack is usually a 3rd party app/plugin which allows customization beyond what the developer intended.

cheats are fine, and are never enabled in multiplayer without the server's consent. hacks on the other hand are NOT.

i have played on BF1942 servers where hacking was allowed, it was silly but still fun in a twisted way. the big difference was, we all knew the other players were hacking too...

hacks have no place in multiplayer gaming as they ruin the experience for other players who are looking for FAIR competition.

Hacks commonly ruin leaderboards as well, sucking the competitive nature of such games with a high score. whats the point of breaking 100,000 points when the next guy above has 999,999,999,999 points.

Great question!
These are the rules I try to follow when it comes to cheat codes and hacks:
1) No cheating during online play. Ever.
2) Play a new game through once the honest to goodness way. After that, cheats are fair game.
3) Cheat codes are totally okay on an old NES title you haven't played in 20 years, though I'm a big fan of unlimited lives only. Unlimited health just takes the satisfaction out of progressing at all.
4) Totally okay to use cheats on a rented game if it's due back soon and you're severely stuck.

Me Personally my name says it call I am a Modder i Mod Games for my enjoyment, don't get me wrong i play the games Legit first hand but once i sucked the fun out of it its time to pull out the mods, Modding is really fun i mean GTA IV after its done and ur maxed level in multiplayer which of course shows u played enuff then what else is there to do? Thats right! Mod it simple as That i dont go online and ruin games but if there is a douchebag in the Lobby i promise u he is gonna get what he deserves i give them chances but once enuff is enuff they are punished. Just liek the Call of Duty series. dont get me wrong when i 1st starting modding the power over ppl went to my head i would go into Ground War Lobbies of 17 players besides myself then Derank Everyone back to level 1 no prestige. but i have learned sense then that is a fucked up thing to do, now i only do it to those who deserve it. Multiplayer modding is not that and as long as they do not use it for Evil but for good just let people have fun jumping 1000ft in the Air on CoD or running 50Mph or shootig a rocket launcher lika machine gun. In a "Fun" Lobby i say Multiplayer modding is ok but when it comes to intentionally ruining the game for other players then i say its wrong.

Cheat Offline all you want. Beat the game first otherwise it ruins the experience.

Don't cheat online people. This just ruins the game for those that enjoy it from a standpoint of we get something out of what we put into it. It will ultimately ruin the game online and people will refuse to play (UT:2004, SC:S, etc etc, too many examples)

Not like writing this will change anyones opinion :)

games ar made for those wo play tham not for thous wo build it thay ar payed to mack a produck that pleases not to complain about wat is donne with wat thay created if thay arent satisfied with the paycheck they shuld build in more cheats in the games that way mor gamers wold buy tham for the get funnyer if one can cheat thy ar lazzy and just make the minimum not to be fired and give porre excuses thats the real reson joda wold say to ignorant and sceard to say trouth thay ar
