Fully Remappable PS3 Controller Mod

Submitted by greg; October 11, 2011

Now this be a real hack... This guy, Hazer, has taken a PS3 Sixaxis controller and has modded it to the max! It's amazing, really. There is a bit of a backstory concerning this mod ... a good one that'll make you feel all warm and fuzzy. Y'all know or heard the name Chuck Bittner? He's a quadriplegic gamer holding his own, and he's "The Can't Stand Up Comic" sportin' some funny material as well. Anywho... Chuck, awhile back, petitioned that button remapping be a feature in all games, which of course hasn't happened ... and who knows if whether or not it ever will. That's when Hazer steps in, developing this mod, giving Chuck a means to some badass video gaming skills. Check the vid:
Attached below are some pics, as well as the pdf user guide, schematics, and the PC utility app used for the actual remapping of buttons. Do note however: This mod isn't easy...
THE DIFFICULTY OF THIS MOD IS HIGHER THAN NORMAL. IT REQUIRES CUTTING TRACES AND SOLDERING TO VIAS. AS SUCH, PERFORMING THIS MOD IS AT YOUR OWN RISK.
And that petition I spoke of ... sign it too. Mad respect -- big ups to Hazer and Chuck. - source: acidmods via hackaday

I love seeing stuff like this. Wonder if there would be a market for this type of mod. Anyone seen any, or drawn any mock-ups of remaps that might help those with disabilities? I'm pretty good with mods but much less so when it comes to art-design, and I wouldn't't be certain on the needs of the person.

Sorry, source code will never be public. Its too easy to rip off my work and add rapidfire to it. It also does not need any more work, it works perfect as is. -Hazer

I hate to sound like a dick, but not all of us are button smashing freaks! I don't see why it matters if someone changes the code to incorporate rapidfire, if they use it online they'll just succeed in temporarily exploiting coding flaws, then get banned for being the online cheating assholes we all know they are.
