Downgrading with your iPhone 2G/3G or iPod Touch 1G

The PSFreedom wiki has been updated. Downgrading with your old ass iPhone or iPod Touch is now possible. There are a couple prerequisites though. You need:

An iPhone (First Generation (2G) or 3G) or an iPod Touch (First Generation (1G))
That iPhone or iPod Touch must be running iOS 3.1.2 / 3.1.3 / 4.0.0 / 4.0.1 / 4.0.2 / 4.1 jailbroken with PwnageTool, Redsn0w or blackra1n (and NOT Spirit)

Everything else -- software and instructions -- right here. Hey ChrisTechTV, you gotta video tutorialize this one!

To restore ps3 bd playback, restore the xxregistery. or edit it to allow it again. By downgrading it, it disables it. I cannot confirm this. I have no blue ray movies, but by a random guess it's in the registery. For I've tinkered with it in the past and also believe you can change blue ray region via the xxregistery as well.

I've got my PS3 in recovery mode now, but it's not downgrading when I put the PS3UPDAT.PUP and self 1 file on the root of a USB- does it have to be a USB that supports jailbreaking or just any?

That wiki tutorial if a mess. One line it says iPhodroid can brick your iDevice, and is illegal because the coder doesn't share source, the the next line instructs you to use it.

Factory mode- Was my bad, the files I downloaded had a .1 on the end of the self file, so removed that and successfully installing the 3.41 PUP file, except it's like installed, the power light is flashing green but it's not automatically turning itself off? I've tried it twice now, and if I manually turn it off and unplug the USB it sits on black screen anyway, eventually turning itself off, is this the 'brick' that was initially explained in the first post? If I get the 3.50 pup and do it should work fine again?

Alright think I scouted it. I downloaded the PSDowngrade files will that was initially released so I think this is causing

iPhone 2G will work, it's all about the support of open I boot and idroid.

Just successfully downgraded a Slim PS3 from 3.50 to 3.41 using a broken (Yes a broken) iPhone 3G which touch screen didn't work.
Now to figure out how to install the jailbreaking files.

Serious the wiki page is just a mess, I dont know what to do there.

it says I should not use iPhodroid as it can brick it and then the next step it says I have to use it, AHH someone make a good step by step guide on how to hack the PS3 using a iPhone 3G.

I heard that downgraded ps3's dont have blu ray playback. Mathieulh said that it has been issued with the modified PUP file which comes with the PSDowngrade package. Can anyone try to downgrade from a fresh 3.41 to 3.15 and check if blu ray playback is still intact?

so i got the service mode android images from the wiki.
and right now im installing idroid from bootlace ( already installed open iboot, this is so much better than the old ubuntu way.)so to my understanding all i need to do is overwright the android images on my ipohone with the service mode ones and get my ps3 into service mode. then use the usb to downgrade.
then swap the android images again to the jailbreak images then jailbreak & complete?
is this right?
and about the backup region free thing.
i plan on using filezilla to transfer my backup to the ps3's harddrive but its a 7gb file i need to break that down some how right?
i think theres a program for that??
does the backup manager have an option for region free mode?
im kinda confused when it comes to that matter?

okay i have successfully done this.
confirmed working.
things you need, iphone 3G/2G ipod touch 1st gen
jailbroken on 3.1.2 - 4.2.1 (yeah i did mine with 4.2.1)
download
these.

steps*
go to cydia and download bootlace
next go to bootlace.
install openiboot
and idroid (this will take some time to install)
(if youve seen christechtv's videos this will be alot easier)
next you need to prepare your usb drive.
make sure there is nothing on it.
next go to the file you got from the 4shared site and go into the downgrade folder, and get the first lv2 diag. it should say Lv2diag.self FILE 1 folder....
and put that on your usb, then get the modified 3.41 PUP and put that on the root of your usb aswell.

next get your iphone and (i used tunlier because i had errors with winscp last time, so google that and download if you want)
download open SSH from cydia. start the tunlier or winscp and put in your ip address. and username: root password: alpine
next go to Pirvate/var/idroid
delete everything in that folder and replace it with the files you got from filesmelt.
put those into your iphone and right click and go to properties, next click the permissions tab and change it to 777
then exit out.
next go to your ps3 and turn it off remove all the usb & game discs ect.
flip the off switch. plug your iphone/ipod into the ps3.
turn on open iboot. flip on switch in the back of ps3. go to idroid from open iboot (click the power button once to choose wich os to run) then click the home button. next go to the ps3 and click the power button then the eject but fast. youll see abunch of stuff going on the iphone/ipod. it should be in factory service mode. (my ps3 turned off after doing this) so i unplugged my iphone and turned on the ps3. and it said it was in factory service mode (ie it had a red box that said it) next get your usb drive.
hold the home button on your ps3 remote and select turn off. then put your usb in the farthest away usb slot (if it has two slots its the 2nd slot, if it has 4 its the 4th)
then turn it on. this is going to downgrade the ps3. wait a little while. the usb should be lighting up, as should the ps3s harddrive light.
after thats finished it should power down. remove the usb and turn it on.
check your firmware. it should be 3.41 now.
turn off your ps3 via the home button hold.
next you need to get out of factory service mode. so put your usb into the computer and remove everything on it. and go back to the downgrade folder and put JUST Lv2diag.self FILE 2 on your usb. and use the same method as before.
after its done it will turn off again.
remove the usb and turn it on.
it should ask you as the time and date ect. its been restored and now its all done.
you just need to jailbreak it now.
so replace the android images with the jailbreak images and run it on your ps3 .

ok i have finally managed to get it working, i will share the steps with you guys.

1st for ppl unable to install iphodroid (in my case using win7 32bit) had a problem getting iphodroid to connect to my iphone 3G via usb. start menu -> control panel -> programs and features uninstall apple mobile device support. Then download itunes.exe extract it with winrar and install only the apple mobile device support.exe

now you will be able to get iphodroid to recognize your phone. in my case i downloaded iphodriod for 3G and the Firmware for 3.5 service mode. extracted both on my desktop and just replaced the android.img.gz and zImage files on the psfreedom-iphodroid3g-pc.zip with the ones from service_jig.zip. Then started the iphodriod.exe and hit shoot now that it's installed from iboot click on install and wait for the message DEVICES_WAIT_RE ADY

Connect the iphone to the ps3 in the left usb port (assuming you are facing the front of the ps3) press power followed by eject the screen on the phone will start scrolling then stops and the ps3 will switch off. Switch it back on and you are in service/factory mode. switch off

Prepare any memory stick with the PS3UPDAT.PUP and the Lv2diag.self (1st file) make sure they are on the root directory no inside any folders make sure also the phone is still connected. connect the memory stick and power-on. blank screen but the led of the HDD LED will be blinking fast (downgrading from memory stick) the system will power off again automatically. power it on without the memory stick it will still be in service/factory mode go to system settings make sure its now reading firmware 3.41

Plug back the memory stick to your pc and copy the file Lv2diag.self (2nd file) "keep the iphone connected at all times to the ps3" now power-on again for the system to read the 2nd file.

Finally power-on again and the system is back to firmware 3.41

you downloaded 2 files fromt he wiki page correct?

extract both, so you will have 2 folders
iPhoDroid_R13j_3G
service_jig
go into service_jig copy both files android.img.gz & zImage and paste them (in my case D drive) in the folder D:\iPhoDroid_R13j_3G\Resources\iPh oDroid_image and overwrite

use tunnelier i had the same problem a while back.
make sure your permissions are set to 777
(replace the images again. i had errors from transfering with winscp last time, so i used tunnelier and it worked.)

So here is the scoop I got it to factory/service mode, but I didn't have a USB large enough for the pup file, so I only did it to find out if it truly got it to service mode. It did!!!! I then spent the last hour freaking out cause I couldn't get the second file to get it out of service mode to work!! Then I figured out that the FILE itself has to be on the root of the USB. phew disaster averted! I then put it back into service mode and back out. During the time I had it in service mode I tried using an sd card in my sd slot to downgrade however it does not work. I didn't have an adapter or nothing so I had high hopes at the very least this can be used multiple times to downgrade as I went into service mode twice.

hi guys great job making it free,now i have a question,i done everything as the forum says,i got the service/factory mode i put the Modified 3.41 PUP and the Lv2diag.self FILE 1 on a regular fat 32 memory stick conected to the ps3 rigth usb with the iphone conected all the time to the ps3 left usb i got the memory stick flashing for about 3 minutes no hdd orange led flash only memory stick led,black screen,and after 3 minutes the green ps3 power led begin to flash forever,never turn of by imself,i turn off miself and on again and 2 second later turn off inself,i never get to see dashboard but i conect the usb again with the same files and the prosses begin again so any ideas???i allready try diferent firmware version with the same result

i manage to back on 3.42 i unplug the iphone and the memory stick and turn off the ps3 and the iphone and turn the iphone on again and plug the iphone only to ps3 and load idroid with the files to downgrade turn on the ps3 and it work seems to have a problem with the 3.41 i try many 3.41 from many sites with the same result any ideas??? if i go to 3.41 the console turn off and if i go back to my 3.42 works normaly

Hey Jake. i tried what you told me , but i replaced the file with the files you provided in iphodriod folder. in var/idroid. now my problem is that i turn my system off, and turn on my phone go to idroid icon the last one, and press the home. i dont see nothing, no scripts nothing. it says
Loading Kernel.
Booting
reading baseban nvram...done

thats what i am getting, how can i get the device ready scrip , so this was i can press the power and the eject button right away , like in christech video.
can you tell me how to get that.
