Downgrade with Rockbox Devices!

I know a lot of you are patiently waiting for this one ... Quake now has a written tutorial right here (and there is another here) for anyone looking to downgrade with a Rockbox-enabled device. I'm talking various iPods, GoGearHDDs, Sansas, and a few others. The latest Rockbox compiled binaries can always be found here (scroll down to PSGrade) and the source is on github.

I ordered my new E3 card so i can join in the fun of backing up my games is there a way to burn the games on my mac then copy them to a ext hard drive, do i need a program id just like to get a jump start on my game copying until i can just rip right to hard drive i been reading so far all i can come up with is this game copy wizard any ideas?

It's a 98.9% chance it will. It's a hit or miss situation. I read through alot of threads and I still aint got what can or doesn't do it. What I can gather is if you were on 3.50 in the first place. Yes it will.

Hey is there a way to know if you correctly loaded the psgrade file on the nano? After I run psgrade/rockbox.ipod it just goes back to the rockbox main menu. Is that correct? I cant seem to get to the factory mode.. Thanks for any help

If you're referring to iPod 1g Nano then yes. It'll just reboot into the RockBox menu. BUT, it'll be the 3.41/3.50 Exploit version. Give alittle more info. I have another 1:20 minutes before I can attempt a downgrade after upgrading to 3.50 then backing up.

ok i have an ipod video 5g. i did everything i could to get the crap to work and nothing happed every single time. nothing against the developers and all but i really wanna downgrade and the only successful open source downgrade that i've ever seen was with a ti-84 calculator and it would be my luck that the only version i have is a ti-83.
any who if anyone can post a video and put a link to it on here showing how to do this using rock box when your ps3 is 3.50 i'd really appreciate it

I have a 3.41 PS3, modded my ipod nano 1g and tried if it will enter the factory mode and it did. I ain't upgrading to 3.50 though so there's no way I can confirm this.

The 5g Video has to do with timing issues. I read places with the timing issues sequence. Some say right when you boot the Video you press the Power Eject. Some say right when you see the progress bar going you press the power eject. I have no idea on the 5g video. I only have a 1g nano. Have you tried the hermes v4b for the main boot of rockbox? then making a secondary boot. putting the downgrader in a different folder and then making a menu? I don't know of the video. like I said I don't have one. I have a 1g Nano.

As for going to 3.50 from 3.41 then back to 3.41. Yes it works. Use the right downgrader rockbox and use the Modified PUP file. You won't have any problems. It even kept my info. It probably was doto that I was on 3.41 in the first place tho. So, It might for you being on a 3.50 from the start. I'm gonna test this some more today with try going down further to 3.15 then back to 3.50 then back to 3.41. See if that works. I read you can but who I read it from was alittle brat on the psx-scene that was bragging this and bragging that. Seemed he needed a cookie or something, I don't know.

Anyways, Search out the boot sequence that you need for your device. 1g Nano does not have a boot sequence issue. So I can not confirm what needs to be done for other devices.

Just wanna put out a heads up WARNING!!!...

STEP 4a

Plugin the Thumb Drive in the right most USB with Lv2diag.self FILE 1 & PS3UPDAT.PUP in the root.

Press Power.
WARNING! DownGrade from 3.42 - 3.50
If you didn't use the Modified PUP file then you'll end up with a simi brick.
Green Light Blinks? PS3 Doesn't shut off? STOP
Unplug the USB stick and make sure you load in the Modified PUP file.
Hold the Power button to shut the PS3 OFF. Redo Step 4a
Gonna test this even more. Report back in a min.

Wait for PS3 to boot to Green Light then turn OFF. About 2 - 5 mins

Unplug USB Thumb Drive

So inturn, ALWAYS use the Modified 3.41 PUP to get back down to 3.41 from 3.50.

Im soo sure I posted a comment on here this morning (About 2am GMT) anyway I had a test with this just now and i can vouch that it works for me with an Ipod video 4G (or 5g, the one before the Ipod classic) downgrading from 5.50 fw to 5.41. Not tried any homebrew as i upgrading back to 5.50 because I want to carry on playing GT5. Not tried it but can you play 5.50 games on a 5.41 fw yet?

OK, Here's my findings. Last night I updated straight from 3.41 to 3.50 with out a downgrade. Console was jail broken of course. I used the Un-Modified 3.41 to get downgraded from 3.50. Ended up with a semi brick. Held the power button on front till the console shut off. At this stage the Console is still in FACTORY MODE. took out the mem stick reloaded the Modified 3.41 on the stick and re-stuck it in the right most USB and turned on the console via: power on front. Right off it started re-flashing the Modified 3.41 fw. Success! Rebooted, took it out of Factory mode, and started up the console normally. Shut it off, put it back into factory mode and loaded the 3.15 fw into the thumb drive. Success! So right now I'm sitting on 3.15 and I'm gonna re-update the PS3 to Un-Modified 3.41.

That was my findings. Using 1g Nano, 256mb Thumb Drive on a PS3 - CECHE01 80gb BC 4USB Memory slot console.

If you have version 3.42 or 3.50, you have to find the fixed files that shuffle2 released about 1:00 last night, just google, cant remember where I got them, but I can confirm downgrading from 3.50 to 3.41 with ipod video 5g.

All I did was:
Booted ipod to the rockbox menu with the new rockbox.ipod file.

Unplug ps3, plug in ipod, plug ps3 back in.

Hit power then eject, you will hear a few beeps if done correctly.

My ps3 booted up for a sec. then shut down by itself.

unplug ipod, then turned on ps3, I was in factory/service mode, I turned ps3 off via the xmb menu.

Plug in thumb drive in usb port to the right, with the modified PUP file and the Lv2diag.self file (first file only) on the root directory, nothing else should be on the thumb drive.

I turned on ps3, it loaded then shut down by itself, took a few minutes...

Turned back on and I was downgraded..

To get out of factory mode turn ps3 off, take the two files off of the thumb drive and put the second lv2diag file in the root directory, nothing else on drive, turned on ps3, it booted up then shutdown by itself.'

Thats it I was downgraded and on 3.41!

I have no need to emulate anything really on the ps3 considering I already have a hacked PS2, PSP, Xbox, Wii. I also have a GPH Wiz, GPH Caanoo and a good spec PC. One thing i don`t get tho is why hack a PS3 when everyone here has a PC and can do everything that a hacked PS3 can do on a pc?

You know, I don't know either. I myself don't use it for emu myself. Like you said, I have other PC's for that too. Guess some maybe don't have the ability to hook up there PC to a TV? Who knows. I'm sure missing my online tho. I'm so close to going to the pawn shop and picking up one of those slims. Just so I can get online.

And yeah I was up till the crack of dawn and barely got any sleep. 3hrs later here I am.

you're probably referring to the nano 2g 4gb? yes? if so. then, No it doesn't support that one. they have totally different usb device access.

Good news tho. You could probably pick up a mini 1g 2g a 1g nano or something from a pawn shop Real cheap. say 5 to 10 to 20 bucks. depends on the device. I wouldn't pay more then 5 bucks for a 1g 1gb nano from a pawn shop.

Help mate. I have an ipod nano 1g and done everything and when I access the PSGrade folder and click on the rockbox file I then get this error thing and my ipod then reboots back to the rockbox menu. then my downgrade wont work.

You get an error after selecting the Rockbox in the menu on the 1g nano? Cause the reboot back to the menu is normal. What it does is load that rockbox file for rockbox. That should be the one that you can get into Factory Service mode. All USB devices removed?

yes i am 100% sure that I have ipod nano 1g as the colour of the ipod is black and the back part is sliver and it is 2 gigabytes. NOW I HAVE A MAJOR problem!!! I donno what happened but my ipod has just shut down and doesnt turn on no more :(

Probably battery dead. Hold Menu/Select that reboots it. Holding Pause Shuts it down. Pressing Select starts it up. Holding PAuse/Select puts it into Admin Mode.

Right I donno what Im doing but I get stuck at step 3 to 4. At the part when I turn on ps3 n eject then turn off - 6 seconds then unplug ipod n continue with step 4. I turn on ps3 and it boots up normally but without connecting my controllet to the usb <----- do i have to connect it to the controller?? then scroll to turn off ps3 n then after i trun on again it still comes up on my screen with the XMB n stuff :(

The only reason you would have to connect the controller would be if your in factory/service mode it wont connect via bluetooth, because there is no support in factory mode!
If your on firmware 3.42 or 3.50 then,
Do you have the fixed psgrade files that shuffle2 released at 1:00 last night??
If not thats why its not working!!

Successfully downgrade to 3.41 from 3.50 from using rockbox on Sansa e250v1. I'm so happy I could cry! I didn't run into any trouble at all other than figuring out how all this stuff works. Once I set everything up, it worked on the first try!

Confirmed and working on iPod 5g from 3.50 to 3.41 with the new rockbox.ipod file that was fixed by shuffle2. To get it to work all you have to do is replace the new rockbox.ipod file with the old one in the PSGrade folder afterwards it's the same as any other downgrade. I found the file in the psx-scene forums, and I haven't tested blu ray playback yet.

All this interest for ps3.It can be moded by so many devices.There are so many useful emulators and loaders and it is still on a factory mod mode.
I am waiting for the full hack with a custom firmware.We will be able to do anything.Using ps3 as pc with an external ram for better os than yellow dog and a wireless keyboard and mouse.Playng all the games for almost every console ever made.I hope even on an edit on the 3d effects with the release of the 7th cell.

hooray now I have a reason to use my sansa clip. as a media player it sucked: proprietary software to transcode video to ONE format. Now it lives again to jailbreak!
