ATTENTION: Sony Dropping the Banhammer on CFW Users

You had to know this was going to happen at some point didn't you? With newly released custom firmware options stretching all the way to 4.30, many users had been greeted to completely unfettered access to the PlayStation Network's myriad of services. From online games of Borderlands 2 to some new downloadable titles from the PSN Store, for a short time it seemed we had it all. Today however, Sony has taken its first real strike back. Boy is it a doozy!

If you try to sign into the PSN with any CFW (including older versions with F*ckPSN or SEN) you'll now be greeted with an error code 8002A231 leaving you completely barred from the network. That's just the beginning of your problems though because you'll also be receiving an email with the following message:

"PlayStation Customer: Notice: Unauthorised or pirated software has been detected on your PlayStation 3 system. This use has violated the terms of both the “System Software License Agreement for the PlayStation 3 System” and the “Terms of Services and User Agreement” for the PlayStation Network/Sony Network Services and its Community Code of Conduct provisions.

As a result, your Sony Entertainment Network account has been permanently banned and access to PlayStation Network and Sony Entertainment Network services through your PlayStation 3 system has been terminated permanently."

That being said, if you want to keep any sort of internet access for your console, I highly suggest staying out of the PlayStation Network for now. Odds are there will be tons of you effected by this, and for that I am intensely sorry. If you need to vent, the comments section is awaiting your words. We hackers are a talented group and will probably find our way to a fix for those not banned, but until then, keep your gaming experiences in the single player realm. What can I say other than it was fun while it lasted.

I haven't yet made the jump to newer cfw, was mostly waiting for rogero to release an updated cwf with cinavia fixed again. Kids had been looking forward to being able to play cod online, and I was really looking forward to re-subscribing to netflix. I guess I'll have to wait a little longer and see how this plays out.

As far as I'm aware, once you are banned that is it. I can't really say since I'm on OFW 4.31 but from what other users have been saying there seems to be no fix as of this very second. There may never be one.

Not banned either, Rogero CFW 4.30, playing madden 13 and MW3 online, Haven't tried Black ops II because I have the European version and it will not connect to the U.S. servers. Probably for the better since it sounds like BO2 is the game drawing the most attention.

I'm not going to say any side is really right or wrong here, but I have always been a big proponent of giving the company their rights to do what they want to protect their investment. Yes we purchased their product privately and have right to modify things to an extent, but you can't expect Sony not to strike back. As far as I'm concerned, this is probably the most effective thing they can really do. When workarounds come they will just have to send the hammer down yet again... It's all a war.

You know, this all sucks and everything, but i truly believe this is part of the reason why sony has so many OFW updates so frequently. Trust me dudes, im one that LOVES to get on CoD online as well as some others, but i like being able to have all my games on an HDD more. With that said, why not just create CFW that has no PSN access, or at least in the fact of playing online. As for DLC and other things to buy, it would be cool to do that. Wow people just love to hate on hackers first off i have a ps3 with CFW ewww scary hes a hacker thats not the point not everyone who hacks is cheater period so people just like to change it up a little come on now i like being able to download games and putting them on my consoles just easy that way i was online before my console had the cfw put on and im still able to get online just fine but seeing the news of sony bringing down the banhammer well i just wont play online then smart thing to do and if your lucky and you do have more then one console which some of us do i would recommend you have one hacked and the other free from the cfw just that simple seesh look on craigslist or ebay get another one for the low
