I'm sure most of you have seen this, but for those who haven't: geohot talks hacks and jailbreaks on G4's Attack of the Show.

@poorboy he says that he didnt enable piracy to cover his own ass in case of a lawsuit, and it worked, now he can go to court and say that he didnt do it to enable piracy but to run homebrew.

Btw i find it funny how everyonw is like oh piracy is bad, I just need my ps3 jailbroken so i can watch mkv files, and emulators are also piracy just like to point that out.

BTW DUDE. making unsigned codes run is not violating piracy, he is enabling applications that have not been signed by sony to be installed, but after that, because you could run insigned codes, people made backup launchers, NOT HIM.

The whole point of running unsigned codes is to enable the ability to run different programs on the PS platform. Now with that said WTH do you think the point of that is? cuz if it were for the application reasons you speak of then ppl would of been satisfied with just running them on LINUX thru the PS3. So therefor the whole point of running the unsigned codes WITH IN the stock OS is PIRACY.

@Wut, playing you backed up games or older game console game that you own is NOT piracy? You are allowed to backup a PS1/PS2 game for example and run it on a emulator even with a Sony bios (if you dumped this yourself).
Atleast in my country. How do you reason? Is it piracy cause you run it on the PS3? :)

Absolutely agree. Do I own my PS3 or not. Geez I paid $400.00 for it , and I can't upgrade it if I want to. But it's ok to remove products that I bought the PS3 for. I/E the OtherOs. Ridiculous. Thats like buying a Corvette and after you buy it Chevy says, well since most speeds limits only go as high as 65, we are going to remove your V8 and install a 4 cylinder, and then modify your computer so you can not go past 70. Wait I paid $50,000 and your going to do what, oh so since you did this your going to refund me some money right. NOPE!.
Oh yeah, don't forget about the fact that New cars do have computers within them, and the Manufacture does limit speeds, can't go faster then 120 for example. But you can buy a chip, or a programmer and modify the computer. Is that legal? I would consider that as a homebrew program, unsigned program not made by the original manufacture. Hmm

Backups are not piracy, neither is (certain) homebrew. Backups are purely that, backups of YOUR data. Homebrew is a touchy subject, I know Nintendo has released the rights to the NES system. From what I remember that is the ONLY system...not quite sure, even CD-I sells their system and games.

Sometimes I wonder if this is actually true, I mean... this softwares are design by professionals, emphasis on the 's', yet this 21 year old guy hacks it (though there was a jailbreak USB micro-controller that could do it at first).

Makes me think if its actually SONY themselves that created a jailbreak so pirates could buy this console. Put it this way, who would want a system that will block free things. Certainly not third world countries.

I buy all my games but only used one though but i want to be able to do other things with my ps3 and unlock its potential that is why i'm one of those who wants homebrew. It's not really all about gaming.

I bought my ps3 for 500 euros and if sony tells me i can't do anything i want to do with the item i bought for that price i'll tell them to fuck off.

I respect them as creative company that produces great devices for our entertainment but they're going the wrong path with this.

It's still not possible to install whatever game or software you want. they will not work.
Why? Well, the PSN store scans the game ID and if you have that game in your PSN store list you can use the game.

From past years with Dark Alex on the PSP scene, Geohat shoulda seen this coming like a battle between David and Goliath!
That's probably why he quite the scene while he was ahead because he didn't want to deal with Sony's bullshit.
Anyway down to the business...running unsigned code will inevitably lead to piracy without a doubt!
Geohat gives the end user the option to install .PKG files such as backup manager. He didn't include it in the actual firmware. That's his argument. He didn't promote piracy but at the same time his firmware gives you the option to do such "bad" things. So is that enough to save his sorry ass?? Who knows!

You need advertisement to pay for server load. If there were no advertisements for this site, years ago this site would have closed down (unless there were regular donations) due to lack of server funds. The reason why psx-scene doesn't have as much advertisement, is because their "site" is a forum. All files are not on that server, ps3-hacks hosts the files themselves.

We are running games on geohot's 3.55 CFW, that's all that there is. It's up to the user to decide if he wants to pirate games or just enjoy homebrew. It's up to Sony (Microsoft etc.) to make us not wanting that.

Flying around, running at 10X speed, invincibility, auto-aim, it's ruining the competition of multiplayer like steroids. if i buy something is it mine or is it owned by the company that made it so if i brake my items on one cares but if fine out how the items work it's hacking also if download a game from the internet it's wrong for me to do that but some one had to buy the game or games to put it out there so that's piracy

Hackers suck, and I am glad they are getting into trouble. Hackers think they are saving us from something. Really they are just fucking it up worse. PSN has been down for nearly a week, why? HACKERS! Were we in danger of playing our games online too long? Oh, no! They got picked on and now they think they are all powerful cuz we 'can't find them', oh yeah those bastards are gonna be found. Then they will be sent to jail, and I hope GeoHotz taught them that the 'jailbreak' code really means to bend over and grab your ankles.
