PS3 Firmware Update 4.00 Released

Well whaddya know... It's the big four-oh! It's out and she's a mandatory one: PS3 System Software (or Firmware) Update 4.00. This update primarily focuses on PS Vita support, which I've detailed below for you. Straight from the update process:
  • Receive messages sent using the Group Messaging feature of the PS Vita system
  • Share content from PS3 and PS Vita systems
  • Back up various types of files saved on a PS Vita system
Lets hope it doesn't patch or break KaKaRoTo's [unreleased] 3.73 jailbreak method. Updating now. Update: Some things I've noticed just browsing the XMB --
  • PlayStation Plus icon under [PlayStation Network] (when you're not signed in)
  • "Delete PS Vita System's Backup Files" under [System Settings]
  • PS Vita text added to Remote Play items
  • "PS Vita System Application Utility" added under [Game]
And I'm sure there is more, both in-your-face and behind-the-scenes. We'll keep you posted.

oh man, what a dilema... if i stay on 3.73 i will not play online neither have to play backups. but the 4.00 nobody said anything so far : / I guess i won't play tonight : /

Sony are clutching at straws trying to cover their asses , this update really came as a shock  , however i believe there will be a way around it's security , give it time

e3 flasher is the way to go. Its pointless to wait till someone comes out with a new jailbreak cuz they will just make another manditory update. I acctually just updated my ps3 from 3.55 cfw cuz the only homebrew i used were the emulators really and i can emulate games on my laptop and play em on the tv.

You missed a file recovery system that when you turn off directly or when ligths go off you can recover factory files.

It actually fixed some settings for me.

Lol, just so you know. a SPOOFER does NOT allowe PSN access or allow you to sign on PSN accounts.


IT is ONLY for data transferring and to make sure you  or someone else doesnt ACCIDENTLY update your ps3 from 3.55 to OFW  ..





Lol @ you thinking the rebug package+spoofer would allow you to sign on PSN!! LOLOLOL

Some reports are flying in that the 4.00 firmware update is bricking consoles.So far over 500,00 consoles are effectivly bricked, many of them following the podate from an unmodded OFW.

So far from what I have seen and experienced, only the original phat models seem more prone to it, However, some slim models are also experiencing the issue as well.

A good sign that your experiencing this glitch would be failed downloads of DLc and downloadable games from the psn. It gives a sony error code that is not even in their database.

 

I called a sony representitive, who instructed me to enter safe mode on the ps3  prior to its start up, and attempt a data recovery. It worked the first time, but during the next boot, the console powered on, and beeped three times, then shut down on its own.

I have already lost one Slim model to this update, so I have no idea what's causing it, but please do share any issues if you experience them. Seriously regretting updating at the moment.

Hi

 

I brought my PS3 to Canada from England and I had not used it for about 4 months; I can sign in as a user everytime I try to download a game or connect to the multiplayer function. I am still getting a message that the network is down.

 

I have already upgraded to 4.00 ....please help
