PS3 Firmware 3.41 Released

Update: Here's a little something that went unmentioned. In big whoop news, Eric Lempel lays out the details for PS3 Firmware 3.41. And if the minor increment in version number wasn't enough, this update isn't anything to get excited about. The update is said to make your online shopping experience easier and better by adding recommendations for games and videos based on what you and other members have purchased.

The new 3.41 update is killing hard drives everywhere.

I am one of the people that was affected by this, my hard disk was corrupted and could not be restored. had to reformat externally back to fat 32 for a fresh reinstall.

Update 3.41 though DOES NOT WORK. it gets between 50-99% applying update and then blanks out and says no applicable update data available.

This is happening everywhere and no one is able to fix it.

called tech support and their reps said "none of research shows that this is a problem with the update. it must be your fault, you can send it in for repair for 150$ though"

You know what you guys are right. It doesn't say consoles, but it might as well. Bassically from what i saw on the EFF page is that jailbreaking was legsalized to allow consumers more freedom with their device such as 3rd party apps not from app store. changing phone companies, and so on. Now the same can be said for virtually all consoles. All consoles have the capability of being hacked and have unsigned user created software run on them, so it goes to figure that jailbreaking is the same thing as a CFW. PLUS I do not condone pireting but CFW and homebrew apps absoluteley.
Please don't flame im speaking to all with the utmost respect.

I have a problem with my ps3, I changed the hard drive before the update And downloaded 3.41and every time when the ps3 trys to restore it fails at 66% every time, I have contacted Sony support and to the answer " that's the first we have heard of this problem" and there have been many reports upon this case. It has been posted on ign and gamespot so anyone who reads this please spread the word and hopefully Sony will resolve this issue.

Jailbreaking has been legal for the longest time. Back before blackra1n was released, there was a demonstration on G4tv on how to jailbreak. :)
Oooh, and plus, notice how the ipod/iphone works, once you buy it, apple gets the money for the iTouch/iPhone. Once it gets jailbroken, apps get cracked. BUT, it isnt apple that looses money, its the person that made the app :) apple doesnt really care.
Plus, the hackers are very professional with the way they make homebrew, and plugins

Why $ony can't at least release a firmware that allows ps3 games
to be fully installed on the ps3 HDD from a retail ps3 bluray disc?
maybe it could stop people thinking of hacking the console.

That would a nice feature but not everyone wants to pirate iso games onto the hdd. Some of us really do want homebrew. I wouldn't mind seeing snowlepard or windows 7 running at full speed on other os. But that's just me.
Othe cool feature video chat directly fom an XMB app, how badass would that be like a little AIM or MSN icon on the XMB.

Okay, so it doesnt work on mw2... BUUT, before i turned red dead redemption on, there was a new update... This what works for me because thiz is jus how i discoverd it:

Turn on red dead R.

Press start at the main menu

Press start over a song in game xmb

It plays !!!

Dont believe me anyone? Try it for real it works

This update makes syncing trophies fail, an error 8071053d appears. Mine goes all the way up to 87% then later at 60% and stays there.

Do you guys have the same problem?

I have the first series ps3 with a 500gig seagate hd.
I installed and it worked just fine, this was a while ago, and still no problems.

dude they says first baaah i call about the same problem and they says they dont know how to help me they ask for repair $150 plus shipping that means about $200 if they can't repair they send me the same model refurbished i know how to repair my ps3 from any other thing but this update crash just fuk the world all u have to do is take apart your ps3 and take away the pcu and memory ram them soldering again on motherboard so this is a project and suks so i recommend sell the ps3 in parts looool and buy another one by the way this repair maybe just repair your ps3 for a few months them they start to fail again

u can also try to do this :

download the update from sony web site to a usb drive or thumb drive them u do the 3 beebs secret menu on the ps3 then install the update from there (ps3 secret menu) do a research on google or go to ps3 secrets site. that repair my ps3 onetime and that the only hope

I wasn't going to post any real coments untill something new happened, but it looks like not going to happen anytime soon.
My $480 used original 60GB ps3 sits in my room for months without use- Why you ask? Because I have all the games I care to play which are very few. I cant really do squat on it. I hacked it to play ps2 backups only to see if i could, and I did with two of my actually owned games. I also hacked it to play emulators without linux which by the way both hacks still work as of FW 3.15. Anyway give me something to do that doesnt involve tearing my PS3 apart and ill do it, otherwise my PS3 will just sit there. Oh and by the way. SONY HASEN'T GIVEN ME SHIT WORTH WHILE ON THE PS3 exept the PS3 itself. Europe has that nifty TV service on the PS3 that also streams to PSP. So what the FUCK SONY GIVE ME SOMETHING WORTH WHILE!!!! The US NOW HAS DIGITAL OVER THE AIR TV and STILL NO DIGITAL PSP TV TUNER. JAPAN HAS HAD THAT SHIT FOR LIKE FIVE FUCKING YEARS ITS BULL SHIT.

OK sony may not be sabotaging the systems on purpouse, but they are seriously fucking up a lot of peoples systems. Why do you ask, because there are way to many diferent systems trying to run the same FW there are to many hardware variables ( without mentioning upgraded hard drives from all sorts of different companies) that Sony simply isn't looking in to before they release the new firmware.BTW i think you ment the YLOD not the RROD the ps3 doesn't have a ring.

Now... WHY THE FUCK DO YOU HAVE SIX PS3? how is that necesary. I can understand one ps3, one xbox 360, one wii, psp, and ds,but 6 PS3.... GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE.

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod's. It works well, but isn't as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that's not an issue, but if you're planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod's larger screen and better browser may be important.
