Kmeaw's Upcoming CFW to Include a Dual-boot Option Too!

When we last heard from Kmeaw, back in January, he released 3.55 Custom Firmware. Now today Dukio has the inside scoop on Kmeaw's upcoming CFW release. And no -- it is not 3.60 -- or at least I don't believe it to be. Let me quote Kmeaw by way of ps3crunch:

I was thinking of a CFW that has bootOS integrated so it gets executed when you power on your PS3 (and switches back to GameOS on users request via menu or ssh). Its not hard to make it. But recently I read grafs announcment that he is going to accomplish the same task. So I dont know, if such CFW from me would get any demand. Also I got bootos-installer and lv2patcher patches from an anonymous hacker who have added 3.15/3.41 support. Im going to merge them into my code and release the next version.

Well I can tell you one CFW that's in demand: PS3 Custom Firmware 3.60 ... but that's neither here nor there. Patience. Regardless I look forward to a dual-booting Linux/GameOS CFW. And on a side note: I picked up a new 160GB PS3 from Best Buy yesterday, the Yonge/Dundas location in downtown Toronto, and it came boxed with 3.50 ... still easily hackable! - source: ps3crunch

You shouldn't hold back on releasing it Kmeaw, you make the most well known Custom Firmware and should ask Graf_chokolo (Yes he's into free information) on how to implement his dual boot this way we get the compatibility of Kmeaw plus the awesomeness of Graf's Linux kernel more of an audience will be able to use.

Greg the Canadian stock of PS3's seem to be lower, I bought my Slim 160gb at christmas and it came with 3.41 (Only 3-4months old now). If there's still Ps3's on the shelves you can still get the older versions assuming they are not the bundled pack.

As for the Dual Boot option; Don't get this confused with OFW+CFW Dual boot, this was a rumor started on the other sites.

not really need a 320GB, but nice to have. I just upgrade my 160 to 1T (from Iomega Portable 1T at Future shop) it's really tight I gotta make my own plastic tray enough to protect the electronics components, can't use Sony metal tray, now got about 100+GB left, hehe.

I haven't seen anything about a 3.60 patched CFW and I'll believe it when i see it but I hope its true, Im still online wth my OFW ps3 but I want to be able to play my games with out having to change a disc (yes I'm lazy) and still be on PSN. Untill then I will be using my OFW ps3 for COD Black Ops online and my CFW ps3 for all my other backups and emulators. I've been teaching my self C++ and I am a fast learn, so hopefully one day soon I'll be able to contribute but atleast Im learnig if nothing else.

yeah i put 500 inside 1 1/2 T outside with no customizations very nice. memory does go fast on this system

prove it. I justed used the new multiman EBOOT fix "sweet" for homefront. Personaly as long as backups can be ran and homebrew is being pumped out Firmware version means nothing to me. But yeah 3.60 would be cool as would dual boot. If you want an easy way to mod newer games go to ps3hax for the new multiman. this site hasn't posted it yet

first I've heard of this. backup save data. restore to OFW and run a complete system restore? You may have something screwed up from modding.. All trophies will be lost. I'd give it a shot but it's your ps3. I don't know what you did to it.

While waiting for kmeaw tho, you should check out rebugs cfw. He just released the new version i guess cuz its 3.55.1 and 3.41.2. I didnt know that rebug even had a cfw til today. check it out

already done that with no luck, I always follow the instructions posted here but it still randomly freezes so I switched to Waninkoko's V2 which worked fine ... this dual boot thing sounds interesting but I'm afraid that it may have that issue like the previous version.

that option is already availiable under settings unless sony has removed it in recent firmware updates that would not surprise me. Speaking of dual booting does anyone know if they solved the 10 gigabyte partition limit with linux I would love to see a dual boot option with increased data storage

hopefully with OS we can rip blu-ray movies thats all i wanna do just use my ps3 alone to back up my blu-ray movies with it and watch them straight off the ps3. kidda like a blu-ray movie back up manager

will be great to have linux back on my 60 gb original ps3. have a slim but kept old ps3 so can run linux on it. old 60gb ps3 running as it was when new not a problem with it yet.

Well i would personally like this, i think it is a great idea! Of course i have had lots of problems with 3.55 cfw and upgraded to 3.56 ofw. One that would have 3.56 ofw to 3.55 cfw and below that would be cool if it came out some day!
