Don't call it a comeback... Hermes with a custom firmware of their own: Hermes CFW 3.41 v1.0 BETA. You're flashing this one at your own risk. It seems promising though. I suggest you look over readme.txt -- that covers everything you oughta know. Hermes CFW 3.41 Features

LV1 patch for undocumented v1_undocumented_function_114 (kudos for flukes1/graf_chokolo) 1 byte, don't worry!
LV2 peek/poke patch (original from psgroove)
vsh.self patch to enable .self (same patch as psgroove-hermes_v4B. To launch self requires the payload working)
nas_plugin.sprx patch to enable packages (same patch as psgroove-hermes_v4B. You can install PSL1GHT original packages but requires geohot make_self_npdrm without one payload working)
category_game.xml modified to enable packages (kudos for KaKaRoTo)

It's the same idiots who updated thier ps3's 5 months ago and cried because they coulden't use a dongle, who dont understand why some of us are still on 3.41.

Basically your saying 3.55 has PSN and does not require modded/edited eboots/sfo's etc so all devs must release 3.55 firmware because EVERYONE will want to be on 3.55CFW.

Where i live at the moment we have shit broadband speeds so PSN is not needed here.

3rd party controllers etc are disabled in 3.55 another reason i wont update yet.

The CFW's have been out all of a week and in my mind are still in a testing period so when i eventually do update it will be when certain devs have released 2 or 3 builds.

I and i presume many others will not update untill the above happens just to avoid what could happen - ala wanins cfw

Maybe because it's not? 3.41 still has internet access, and Sony could still get any error reports or logs they wanted through the system without your knowledge if they wanted to allow the system to connect to PSN just long enough to get them whatever information they wanted.

If you wanna be safe on either one you just disable internet access.

Now, if you're saying 3.55 is RISKIER cause you're using it to play online, that's another thing. But then again, what're we doing to help the scene if we still focus resources on 3.41? We need to continue moving to the latest firmware in an effort to stop any anti-homebrew measures Sony might be taking and to keep ourselves neck-and-neck with Sony's team.

Who are what idiots? The people saying this update is pointless? It isn't, because it stops the need for a dongle, and some people (like yourself, apparently) don't seem to have any experience with the 3.55 CFWs (kmeaw's in particular, what can I say, I'm a fanboy) and are being a hypocrite by talking the same shit you say others have talked.

Right now, I'm happy on 3.55 kmeaw. I've had no issues during the migration, it was easy, and all the tools are there to do all the same shit we did on 3.41, except now I get PSN access, which really just means I got to re-download and install the games I had once bought legitimately.

Being hesitant to go with the online support that 3.55 has is one thing, but talking shit about something that you obviously don't have experience with yet is close-minded.

@Ste: Except wanin's POS cfw isn't the most popular for a reason. Kmeaw has no reports of bricks and contains all the features of 3.41 jailbroken. Yes I understand the fact you don't need PSN access (and 3rd party controller support is a legitimate complaint) but there is no danger at this point in upgrading to 3.55 and installing a CFW (like kmeaw or geohot or wutangrza).

Waninkoko, though I respect his work, unfortunately released a very dangerous CFW way too early and it really put a lot of people off to upgrading to 3.55.

3.41 supports 3.50+ games by using a modified PARAM.SFO and EBOOT.BIN files. I've never used them so I couldn't be more specific than that, but the compatibility is not an internal piece of code, it's code in the game itself (which is why EACH GAME must be patched, not just the firmware).

All the newer games are under the 3.55 sdk, meaning if you get a 3.55 game running on 3.41, you will most likely get in game issues and it is better to move up to a higher firmware.

If you upgrade to 3.55 your not foolish, your wise.... Just make sure you get the latest CFW and make sure its tested and confirmed before jumping the gun...

In regards to Kmeaw's firmware i get ya i have been reading shitloads from about 1hr after Wanins FW hit... im not saying theres anything wrong in his FW and have been semi tempted to jump myself.
I understand people will naturally update whether for PSN or not having to mod eboots etc... I just prefer to wait it out see what happens then decide from there.

My post was really to answer the usual "You should update" and "why are devs releasing this p.o.s we need them working on 3.55" comments.

There are shed loads of people still on 3.41 for a reason and their reasons are good enough for them to justify staying put... But because there is a newer "all singing all dancing" 3.55 floating around we 3.41 users should suffer and not have CFW's according to some. Also because it's hermes v4 and it wont run on kmeaw's (yet) then 3.55 users are feeling left out.

I'm all for updating to 3.55 if thats what people want to do but there will always be people who are reluctant to jump on that bandwagon so soon.

Sorry i dont know where to post this ,im not a forum type of person so ill just say here and hope you guys pass this on.

PSP REMOTE PLAY - i have found little big planet 1 to not support remote play ,when editing the PARAM.SFO you can't change the feature of some ps3 games to enable remote play ,after saving the file and loading it back up it stays disabled.

I took the PARAM.SFO from modnation racers and edited the gametag so it matches little big planet and made sure the version number and other details were the same then transfered it over to lbp game folder and remoteplay now works.

when i say it works ,i can get the game to load up fine but at some point it's asking to press the PS3 button on the controller (not found a fix for this yet.

Also ,modnation racers works BUT the remoteplay screen flashes through and crashes the game ???

Oblivion was the game i wanted working so im gonna test this on that game next ,we need a compatibility list for remote play and we need to try this method of overwrite to get other non working games working.

I agree there is no reason to hurry up and upgrade. I have linux and enjoy having it. So until these issues are solved im not upgrading. I am anxiously waiting for medal of honor, gt5 and other games to be playable. I would rather wait then risk damaging my system with newly tested custom firmwares.

*NEWS* PS3's can be unbricked from waninkoko disaster. Not officially confirmed. By connecting ps3 motherboards from one 256mb nand to another(e.g.cechao1=cechao1) you can rebuild a duplicate nand onto it's initial bootup.

successfully installed on fat ps3 60 gig. all 3.41 emulators working, all backup managers working-15 games tested including NFS hot persuit and GT5 with 3.41 eboot patch, all psn debug games working , signed and unsigned pkgs for 3.41 working. very easy to install and use. just turn on ps3 after installation of patched PUP, install payload pkg and run it . no need for any usb . better than any 3.55 CFW (if u dont use psn) because there is no need to run any lv2 or fix permissions pkg .

if you choose to stay on 3.41 and choose to be tied to a dongle or device you are an idoit... 3.55 is great and bug free.. multiman works flawlessly and i've seen no brick reports to date if you read and do it correctly. so 3.41 stay in the stone age...3.55 and beyond will move forward without you. much less hassle and no eboot fixes...use your head read the info and move on into the next level of hacking, quit being scared

I was afraid to update from 3.41, because of bricks and game compatibility issues and i upgraded to kmews cfw, SO FAR it's the same as 3.41, but with improved compatibility probably because of being on latest firmware. Castlevania curse of darkness japanese edition, tales of graces f, and all new 3.55 titles i've tried work without freeze, issues etc.. so far. BTW i'm using a Slim 120 gb and gaia manager 2.02. There's no looking back for me anymore. Mind you, you need a game disc in the drive to run backups with gaia.

Damn straight there with regards to Kmeaw CFW 3.55. Works just fantastic, all the games I have work except Eternal Sonata. It copies "ok" as in it says it's been copies to the internal HDD from the backup manager menu, I've used Rogero, MultiMAN and Gaia but I just can't get the copy on the HDD to actually work.

I've tried a few variations of having original data files in /games/BLES00044 directory from memory, another time by using 'modified data' and another by all together removing the sirectory. Woul LOVE seeing if anyone else actually had this to work, either via a downloaded copy and/or "ripped to HDD" from disc.

That said, if people are staying on 3.41 CFW simply because they haven't actually done (proper) research to see if their save game(s), I guess mainly GT5 can be played on a 3.55 CFW [and that it actually can be played on 3.55], they are about the main definition of a d!ckhead I guess *wink*

And HA to the no devs/hackers on here. Some of us have been hacking/cracking for possibly longer than since they were in diapers, I personally did my first cracking (simple hex editing back then to get Amstrad games to be able to be copied) and ending in ASM and compiler languages for said cracking/hacking but life got in the way, starting a family and losing the motivation to care for cracking stuff doesn't mean some people who aren't actively cracking and/or hacking stuff weren't once into it, and into it in a big way ;)

3.55 is the future (until a later firmware appears). There is no reason to stick with 3.41, we only clung on to it because it enabled hacking. And to all the doubters, you do not need to re-install your games, so long as your choice of BM looks to the same folder. Example /GAMEZ. You can even update/patch your games to the latest versions and they still work. No altered eboot files or anything.

OM2.1 will not work, just download the 1.6, or stick with multi 1.2, gaia 1.4

Under 3.55 CFW you just turn on the machine and run Gaia BM and play the game of your choice. To backup a game you just rip the disc to the drive (usb or internal). No patching or custom files.

3.55 is easier unless you are a fool.

To many comments about it being stupid. If you dont like then dont comment. This is let ppl know if it works or not, Doing the older firmware makes it easyier for ppl to find the patch's more faster and so they can unlock new stuff while keeping the old stuff sony block out usable. Other OS 3rd party controler support things like that.
I still havent updated yet looking to see what comes new first and what they fix. If this one gets another fix i might try it first then move up the 3.55 Thanks to the ppl who worked hard on this.

I don't get this. Why make a 3.41 CFW when many games require 3.55 to play. Do 3.41 give some sort of advantage over 3.55? Why chose this over Wutangrza's or kmeaw's cfw?

Its called healthy competition bro. Not only that but most people haven't upgraded to 3.55 because upgrading will break the USB dongle j/b. Not everyone wants to jump into the latest CFW and risk bricking, like all those poor suckers who tried Waninkoko and were left with a very heavy paper-weight.

CONFIRMED TO WORK ON A CECHG01 40gb PHAT i just make the pup with the firmware 3.41 that this page has,actually is 3.41 v2,i put my console in recovery mode and make the update and wala hermes 3.41 cfw i don't care psn at all,i try with all my games,everythin g is perfect thankyou hermes you are the man,no need to delete data from hdd nothing.

I'm still on 3.41. Haven't had the time to keep up with the progress around here. I'm not worrying about the ban, what I don't want is to brick my ps3. I got a ps3 250gb CECH2001b model. Can I install any of the 3.55 available? Which would you recommend?

If you update.pup a blank file in your game you can probably start the game

If you have downloaded a game with an updated file update.pup you can not possibly start the game and he always pops out

Please fix this so that more games work

I've downloaded about 10 games so far and 2 games will work
one without sound (hawx2)
pes 2011 works perfectly with sound

Im running the original 3.41 with a usbbreak dongle, Im in the process of making my own jb dongle with the evil sperm hex on so i can downgrade an upgrade or i may just run the spoof. my question is can i put this cfw on an still do all that, an will all my stuff already on there still work like snes9x fba mednafen gaia manager open manager ? an will it allow me to dump new games with the update on the disc an not say i need to update . any surgestions plz im pulling my hair out....

Dunno if i'll get an answer here but i'll give it a shot.
So I downloaded a PS3 Backup... (honestly, I wouldnt usualy do this. takes too long for my liking) and I want to put it on my ps3.
Problem is...obviously... FAT32 drives dont accept files over 4gb. Is there a program to split the game, or another way of transferring this game over to the Internal HD?

I get your point. Hermes' CFW is reliable and not all others are.. but still I don't get why he didn't move right to 3.55. JB-dongles are not needed anymore.

Of course not most games req 3.55, but the most recent and some of the most popular games do. ofc people want the possibility to play these games..

This is the biggest argument argument against Hermes CFW.

I stayed on 3.41 because i do want to try the custom firmware upgrade, but i do miss PSN. can anybody answer me if CFW allows you to log into the playstation network and not be prompted to upgrade to their latest firmware? does this spoof the version so that psn doesnt know, or will the upgrade to their 3.55 (or whatever they are on in the future) not remove the exploit? Just wondering if my concern is m00t
