Firmware Update 3.60 Released - Is the PS3 Secure Again?

Firmware 3.60 is now live! If your PS3 is hacked and you care to stay hacked, then you should not update ... obviously. Sony is working hard to combat them hackers and this update shows. Main Features Revised in System Software Version 3.60

You can now set the amount of time before a controller turns off after you have stopped using it. Go to [Settings] > [Power Save Settings] > [Controller Auto-Off] to set this option.

Online Storage is also available for PlayStation Plus members. Under [Game] > [Saved Data Utility (PS3)] you'll notice an [Online Storage] folder with 150MB of available space. Here you can copy your saves to keep safe or to use elsewhere, like on a friend's PS3. Now to the untrained eye that may be it; however, at first glance, deep inside, KaKaRoTo has noticed some new things, possibly re-securing the console:

Sony removed all the loaders, no more isoldr/lv1ldr/lv2ldr/appldr.. but they added lv0.2!
looks like lv0.2 is just the SCE header of lv0, just like the spkg, it doesn't contain code in itself... just resigned with securely..

KaKaRoTo has no plans on hacking this firmware up, but others may. We'll no doubt keep you posted -- the movement will keep moving!

Hi,
I am using the 3.60 rebug spoof and i am able to go online and it tells me when i check in system info and sony too obviously, that im on 3.60 no messing about with pc's etc here so im happy.
Funny thing is though when i 1st turned my ps3 on for the 1st time since i started using cfw 3.55 it signed me in to psn this was before i did the spoof so im kinda confused but happy at the same time =)

The controller feature is not new at all! I can auto shut off my controllers after 10 minutes of non-use. I'm on Kmeaw's 3.55. I recall before the 3.55 security breach that you could as well.

what you are saying is 100% correct. this is not a new feature at all and the fact that sony keeps updating security without adding any useful new features really pisses me off. how about they update the ancient and slow browser and while they are at it give it the newest flash player. i believe we are still using version 9!

Isn't KaKaRoto the same person who has the 3.56 Keys? I don't understand why 3.56 to 3.55 down-grader isn't released when the 2nd Batch of new PS3's ship with 3.56 now.

Sony's about to release a hack proof console, I'd assume someone would have a 3.56 downgrade method released soon?

Even if there isn't a 3.56 Downgrader released yet and you want to jump on the homebrew/hacks band wagon then I don't think you should upgrade to 3.60 at all.

what i meant is that you can adjust the time before the controller turns off now, which is totally useless since the sixaxis doesn't use much energy anyways and 10 minutes sounds just about perfect.
I agree with you about the browser, they REALLY need to work on their browser.. I heard it was developed using netfront or something.. It's also very inconvenient to use with a keyboard and mouse combo.
I honestly feel like sony is cheating their consumers outta their money, sony always starts strong when they release a new product, i.e. the 60gb ps3 with the memory cards support and emotion engine, the fat ps2, the ps1 and fat psp, but then they start cutting down on material costs... I was so disappointed when I got a brand new slim only to find out that it still had a wireless g and i wasn't able to stream high definition videos from my home server.
On the other hand, the xbox keeps getting better and better.. but it's easy to improve on garbage :)

Updating via PSN on the PS3 will update you to the current version (3.60) - You would have to do a manual install.

You can do it in recovery or from the xmb. Just download the 3.55 update from this site and put it on a memory stick.

as longest you dont update more than 3.55 you will be able to hack your ps3! for security reasons disable your internet of your ps3 and get familiar with the ps3 then go online!
