PS3 Firmware

Sony has released the latest system software update for the PlayStation 3. In a Tweet I received on Twitter @PlayStation announces the update which addresses the following.

Scene developer Spewfr has created and released this great new tool for the recently discovered PS2 Classics hack. This tool is a command line gui which will put any PS2 ISO on the XMB and will allow you to launch the game right from the XMB.

Sony are finally on damage control this week releasing the long overdue Firmware 4.40. The update brings "stability" and adds support for a Sony NFC reader.

As we pass through another wild week in the hacking and homebrew scene, Rebug present us with an update on their custom firmware. REX 4.30.2 gives only minor touches to the current REX Custom firmware, which is currently sitting at 4.21.2 REX, but it's welcome. This release adds 4.30 support to DEX users, better support for non-Rebug CFW, and you can now do a safe backup/restoration of xRegistry.

Whether you like them, or despise all the work they do, Team SGK has been hard at work on their 4.31 CFW. If you are on any hackable system right now, this update could be worth your time.

All those patient DEX Users, you may rejoice now! Elotrolado Member Miralatijera has just released his CFW for those still stuck on DEX4.21. This is for the units that are currently on debug/test, and also the CEX2DEX converted units. Roughly translated he states that this is just a basic DEX CFW for now until he releases a second/updated version, but released this for now, for those who can't wait.

It's that time of the week again where I bring you the very latest downloads from our awesome servers. This past week it's been almost completely about PS3 tools, but I do have one homebrew game in here worth talking about.

Depending on who you talk to, the XMB of the PSP and PS3 will either be loved or hated. Regardless of how you feel about the interface, this handy little Windows emulator started just yesterday by SvenGDK shows promising progress toward making the Cross-Media-Bar fully bootable from Windows.

Am I the only one who goes to download a torrent at the home computer, only to see another family member occupying the comfy cushion in front of it?  With this tutorial some of your problems may be solved.

The newest debug DEX PS3 firmware has been released and made it to the Internet.

I'm not sure about the majority of readers on DashHacks, but I myself was a bit scared of trying to update to 4.30 CFW with all the talk of bricking etc.  With REBUG making tools like this that are so simple to use however, I couldn't help making a tutorial for it.

Estwald is at it again with yet another update for the ever-growing IrisManager. This update brings 4.31 CFW support alongside some additional PSX iso patches.

4.XX custom firmware has certainly very much been a development in progress with main features being added over time. Thanks to some secretive work from a new face known as MiralaTijera we now have a few great benefits to reap in the latest Sony environment. How does QA Flag and OtherOS sound?
