PSMAME - A MAME Port for PS3 GameOS Released

One of my faves is MAME -- the Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator -- and Robo Hobo shares an early preview version for PS3 GameOS. Ported using SDCell (libSDL), PSMAME will hit ya with a straight blast of nostalgia; I'm talking all the arcade classics from Taito, Capcom, Midway, Gottlieb, Sega, SNK, Technos, Tecmo, Konami, Namco, and more that I can't remember ... the only thing missing is the cigarette burnt cabinets and the green visor wearing dude selling dimebags. Keep in mind this is considered a "preview" version and Robo Hobo plans to improve on it. You can help out by reporting issues, bugs, feature requests via the google code project page. Install the psmame package onto your jailbroken PS3 using normal means. By default all data paths for mame are located under /dev_hdd0/ROMS/mame_data. ROMS themselves can be placed anywhere and their location chosen with the frontend. The recommended path is /dev_hdd0/ROMS/mame.
Frontend
The frontend can display screenshots of games, these should be placed in /dev_hdd0/ROMS/mame_data/snaps.
Defaults controls
As of right now the only defined controls are R3 to open the MAME config menu, Select for coin, and Start for starting the game. Further control changes can be made in the MAME config menu as needed. Up to four controllers can be used at one time.
Known issues
  • When adding ROMs into your ROM dir, you must tell the frontend to rescan them. This can be done in the R3 menu.
  • The display currently only supports scaling by pixel aspect ratio. Future versions will support various aspect correction modes.
  • Changing video settings in the menu may crash MAME, they don't work anyway so don't bother.
  • Games which require a recompiler will not run.
  • Games which have high memory requirements will not run, the PS3 only has a little of 220MB of RAM available.
  • The default controls will need to be tweaked by the user.

and onley some games need the chd.files like CarnEvil and its a big file.

Can any1 get killer instinct 1 or 2 working for me it doesnt freeze but stays on initializing for a long time. i wonder if games which require CHD file work

did you even get ANYTHING to work? i just get the big red screen with the "no rooms redected" and nothing else works. Only button that works is the circle wich brings me back to the XBM

guys your supposed to place your roms in   dev_hdd0/create ROMS folder / create mame folder place your roms in that folder and yes they have to be zipped  it should look like this  dev_hdd0/ROMS/mame

Sure, and if I want to go over to a friends house and play mame then all I have to do is bring my PS3 and not an entire PC. There's really no reason for you to be so close minded about an emulator.

The readme title says it all, PSMAME 0.142 , hence you need roms for the 0.142 compile do a search there is a site or two offering for free. most of all the 900 roms I have work, some are just bad compiles. Look for the 0.142 version Roms.  This is a great start, robohobo keep up the great work, in the meantime I will continue to play. Robotron starts but cant get it off the maint screen to play. sigh.

A suggestion Robohobo, add usb keyboard support. it would help with menu items. also Cheat file support, I couldnt get any cheat files to be recognized. some dip switches will allow for certain godmodes but the pc version will allow for txt cheat files to be registered.  thanks.

and for the haters out there, cheats would be nice because most of you have never spent 100s of dollars at a arcade, I want some satifaction in beating a game that cost me time and money 30 years ago., satisfaction guaranteed.

What you have to do is, make a folder like this ROMS and put ROMS folder in dev_hdd0 then make a folder like this mame and put it in ROMS folder then put game.zip into mame folder and press R3. Thats it. :)
