Would You Pay For Release Work?

Submitted by tbag; September 19, 2012

After wandering around the web I came across a post that mentioned a website that is trying to raise money to have a developer port Android to the PlayStation Vita and posed interesting idea.  What if there was a site similar to Kickstarter.com that would allow people to raise money for homebrew projects?  The reason obviously is that they tend to take a large amount of time develop in most cases.

Currently the way the homebrew community works is based on the developers simply working away in their spare time and basically giving away the fruits of their labor to the community. There are some developers out there who have tried to raise money for their work like SKFU and his request for donations to buy a PlayStation Vita Dev kit.

I’m not sure a pay for release system would work in the long run.  Maybe for something like a PS3 exploit that would render the same level of ease for developers and users to use and develop homebrew for the PS3 but that’s about it. What do you think? Would it catch on? And what would you be willing to pay for?

with all respect to developers i mean come on these guys are legend in their own ways , i would love to be able to work with them and get into this stuff. I wouldn't mind paying for it it only sounds fair as i believe in life you pay for two things time and knowledge example: you might have the time to do it but not the knowledge or you may have the knowledge but not the time in both ways you will have to pay

I'm not a pessimist, but without being able to create something tangible there's no way I'd pay for it without a shadow of a doubt proof of concept.

Think about it like this : How many people have put out fake CFW videos, claims, etc past 3.55? Would you have been happy if the community had given them say... $3000? HELL NO

One solution is to only give money to trusted names. Personally I only trust people whose apps I've used. Therefore I'd pay for something momentous if, and only if, someone who creates apps for the good of the community- for free needs the financial support. If you charge ridiculous sums of money for something inconsequential , then you become just as bad as SONY and other companies. But for the moment I would contribute funding to projects that have proven themselves and are free (donations). There is just too much false hope generated for some projects that have received donations then been found unworkable with no return on the investment e.g. the PS3 emulator.

Sorry for my long winded speech.
