lol @ the "60 million dollar bribe" now just time to sign our code lol.

But what sony can do is correct the mistake in future firmwares by correcting that so called "epic fail" in which they mistakenly provided a way to get the asymmetric root key to the ps3. They may allow all previous games to run, but will most likely change the master key to the ps3 in future firmware update and correct their mistake. This will in turn allow future games/software to use the new master key and for all of us who might want to play the 'new' games will be forced to update our firmware in order to play it due to the new key which older firmware revisions won't recognize.

sony give you an option to update firmware it is not mandatory. they cannot just change code and stop people playing older titles on older master key. new systems will have to have new and old keys to play all titles.

changing the key in a future firmware is absolutely useless. all we have to do is sign our own code that decrypts anything encrypted with the new key.

I'm not 100% sure, but with this, cfw is not necessary, the whole point of cfw is to run unsigned code, with this, you can sign the code, so you just leave your ps3 as normal.

I'm sure someone is going to just sign backup manager and you'll be able to run it without the jailbreak.

but how would one decrypt new firmwares if sony signs and encrypts them with a new master key and algorithms. To decrypt something one would need to know the encryption key to decrypt it and if sony changes that in new firmwares then we wouldn't be able to. Yes we can decrypt up 3.55 as of now, but what does the future hold in store? Sony can grab every file of every game produced so far run MD5 algorithms and load the hashes in newer firmware updates to allow the older games to run WITHOUT the risk of the actual files on the games being modified in anyway. It's to my understanding that if one changes a file in anyway, then the MD hash also changes. They can use the MD5 hashes as a 'check' in order to see if the files are still original. I maybe completely wrong here, I am a biologist going to pharmacy school.

That's not necessarily true, SONY will come to terms with the fact they've lost half the battle, and will have no option but to accept that all games to date can be subject to Jailbreak, and will most likely up their impetus on banning consoles from online play, though with a new root key we simply can't just decrypt a whole new security pass, Similar work would be need to be done again by Hackers, though with a method established, it really would be another cat and mouse with various minor updates.

That being said - As of Firmware 3.5 and below - We have won the war.

Now that you probably dont need any JB dongle to rune your own code malware writers can start making killer viruses to the ps3 and hopefully kick this console away like the wii. Then the game developers can start focusing on the pc again where you have 10x more hw performance to play with and we will see new beautiful gfx games again. For me I have a one year old pc with a 5850 gfx cand and today I am still able to play the new games that is out. This is so wrong and the reason for this is coz of the console world. Fuck them all.

gorgo has found a way to downgrade 3.55 with e3 card reader

with a normal usb dongle,gorgo says you can patch the ps3 as they keys are built into the chips so it doesnt matter what firmware so long put on there isos or whatever

It disgusts me the amount of people that ask and beg what the root key is and how to use it. People seem to have forgotten they are sitting and a computer and can make use of the internet for "researching". Even more likely, they're for the most part probably pirates looking for the easy way out of paying for games that the developers worked hard on and invested plenty of time and money into create. There is a fine line between hacking and pirating the more prominent population of pirates participating in the PS3 jailbreak community simply make hacking a nightmare for the community members that actively work for the benefit of the console user in a legal way.

that being said, help people. don't tell em to look elsewhere you dill hole. from what i understand you have to use <3.5 software on your ps3 to upgrade from usb. try google, ps3 hack key uses. from there i'd guess create a file (dunno what name it'll boot) with the key. or maybe raw writing the key to the beginning of a cd. i'm sure the infos out there somewhere

For starters this actually uses a flaw in the hardware based within all of the PS3 systems, there is no way that it could be undone, as a complete hardware revamp would be required. So no unless everyone willingly returns there PS3 for an upgrade its not going to happen sorry bud

You are an idiot... There is no magic emulator in the FAT ps3's, they contain actual PS2 hardware. The original 60 gig systems contained the PS2 processor and VPU's, later models just had the VPU's and emulated the PS2 processor. The Slims have neither and thus can't emulate the PS2... at least not in the same fashion. You would have to code a new emulator from scratch with no guarantee that it would work.

Why feel bad for Sony? They are te ones that a few years ago released CDs with a virus on it that fucked up you computer as part of an "Anti-Piracy" action. They removed otherOS from PS3 when they know people bought PS3 just for that feature.
