PS3 3.55 / 4.00 Hybrid Firmware v2.5 Update Released

About two weeks ago, we posted some news about being able to install retail package files on 4.00, if you had a PS3 on custom firmware. The guy behind that has released two new updates since then adding some new features to the hybrid firmware. Let's take a look at the new stuff introduced since then.

Version 2.5 now uses v0.07 of DeViL303's XMB File Manager which now properly displays PSN content in the correct category. On top of that, PS2 formatted discs now appears as "Playstation 2 Format Disc" instead of "Unrecognized Data" on non-BC consoles and custom icons have been fixed in the firmware.

Version 2 added a "Debug XMB Items" option, disabled Cinavia DRM and removed the PlayStation Plus link from the XMB.

The v2.5 update is currently just patch files which must be applied to the v2 .PUP file before being installed on a PS3 on a 3.55 custom firmware. It will only allow you to install retail signed packages and will not allow homebrew of any kind.

If i install this on my 3.55.2 system, is it possible to change it back to the previous firmware? It doesnt actually update the system to 4.00 right? Just has 4.00 elements & a few extra features?

will this allow you to play retail 4.00 plus disc games and go online and if so is it still 3.55 and can i switch back to 3.55 with hombrew working

Wouldn't it be awesome if everybody on here could donate like a dollar each to the guys programming all the latest cfw and homebrews so they could take a few weeks off work then bring this stuff out quicker, plus they'd have way more time to work on it. I recieve my Metal Gear Solid HD Collection soon in the mail and I can't play it because I'm on 3.55 custom firmware, gosh I hope it ain't long before 4.00 CFW with Multiman comes out.
