OtherOS++ For All PS3 Models

Anyone looking to run Linux on their PS3, regardless of model, should read up on this right here. Just recently the "automagic" install method was deprecated, meaning there is a much better way to install Linux now, and not only that, these tools and this method now work with all PS3 models ... VFLASH, NAND, Fat, or Slim. The wiki page covers the prerequisites, downloads and step-by-step instructions. It's all there: firmwares, packages, petitboot images, scripts, tools, guides, video how-to's ... everything needed to get up and running. And just to recap the full feature list of OtherOS++:

Into HV integrated OtherOS bootloader loader (compatible with OtherOS bootloader on 3.15)
OtherOS bootloader is booted directly from HV, no GameOS is involved.
Process of booting OtherOS bootloader loader is very similar to 3.15 method
Booting Linux from HDD/USB/BD/Network
Linux with GameOS rights
Full access to all HV SS services (Dispatcher Manager) from GameOS or Linux
Full access to all System Manager services
Ability to create/modify/remove repository nodes in LPAR 1 (e.g. with ps3dm-utils or ps3hvc-utils).
This ability gives you much power over the whole system because many layers of PS3 use repository nodes to exchange information.
Enabled QA mode in Update Manager
Downgrading without USB dongle or Service Mode
Ability to deactivate/activate HDD/VFLASH encryption (e.g. with ps3stor-utils)
Support for ps3-utils. You can flash new OtherOS bootloader from Linux e.g.

hey guys i am pretty new here on the hacking scene and i have a question about dev_blind pkg what if i update to ofw3.61 and i leave the pkg's like multiman devblind and 1 ftpserver?well actually i did this by 3.55official and all pkg's where there so i could ftp on official the ps3 ... so my question is if the devblind pkg is working on ofw3.61 i could reflash the ps3 and make multiman working or am i wrong?thanx in advance

I'm just curious if the "Trophy sync" error has been fixed yet. No news yet on the wiki. I've installed it before and still have the linux partition installed on the HDD. Was pretty nice to have debian on my PS3

Wow.Are you for real?The return of Linux will lead to alot of great things in the PS3 hacking scene,such as possibly the return of PSN usage through QA while still on CFW.I recommend everyone stick it to Sony and install Linux.Don't update to 3.61.You'll be sorry you did.Right now we're at the beginning of some interesting times in the hacking scene.

LOL, i've never seen a point in installing an OS on a PS3 apart from hiring games and ripping them (which i had a few months of fun with), you want to do something creative, use the tool in which OS's were designed for.. lets say ummm A COMPUTER with Debian or windows - whatever your flavor is, and learn oracle or C++, learn 3D development, and work on your own games or applications. I for myself have to say that I thought about installing this firmware on my PS3 and I presume that it won't install because of the wrong language. A while ago I already tried installing a firmware with another language and it didn't work. So why should this? That's why I ask first. Before I try myself and waste my time. Who knows? Maybe there is somebody from my homeland who might have tried to install OtherOS++ on his German Fat already and with success (a question that, by the way, has not been answered in the docs; that voids your request for disabling comments here).

So, sorry, I agree with Scott Allen when he says: shut the fuck up! It's not up to you to decide who may ask and who may not.

The PS3 doesn't do anything my current Linux machine couldn't do except play ps3 games so no use for it for me. I'm sure other people will have fun tho. My Linux box has more bandwidth than a PS3 anyway with a AMD x6 3x ATI HD 6870 and 16GB of RAM. It rips blu rays quicker than my PS3 did with Linux on it. Tho this is now Linux with the HV cracked but I still don't think the PS3 can out preform my Linux box.

Okay, I've got an original Phat PS3 (60GB). I followed all the instructions, I ran the script. I got access to /dev/ps3dd, but only when i'm in petitboot. When I run a linux installer (Ubuntu 11.04 PPC minimal for example), all I get in my available devices for install are /dev/ps3da, and /dev/ps3vram or something like that.

Why can't I install to /dev/ps3dd?

Also, if I switch to a VT and run "ls /dev/", I don't see the ps3dd device. So, it's not that the installer doesn't allow it, but for some reason it's not detected at all. I'm going to try with another distro.
