The other ODDE (Optical Disc Drive Emulator) that we have been waiting so long for, has gone on sale. Keeping up with the February release date, the Cobra ODE is being sold at various resellers across the globe. As you know, the Cobra ODE allows you to play games from an external hard drive without having a custom firmware installed. It supports all variants of the PS3 including the 3000 and 4000 series Slim consoles. For those with Phat and 20xx/21xx series consoles, you have the luxury of a solderless installation. $140 is ridiculous. they could sell thousands if they priced these things for under $50. I'm sure the parts cant cost more than $12 to make.

I trying to wrap this around my brain here. We were told so many time that it was impossible to get the Privet keys to do anything with 4.xx OFW unless you was on 3.55 and from there you can get a 4.xx CFW. Now Here is cobra boasting that the can get there ODE to work on all PS3 models on 4.XX OFW. ????? I know this is not software its Hardware but I THOUGHT you would still need the privet keys to do anything above 4.XX. If I'm wrong great that fine with me but I'm just confused with this.

If it does work and its legit I'm getting the damn thing! If some would could explain to me how the could have pulled this off. Does it have to do with anything to do with software or did they completely bypass everything and just hacked the BR drive by itself . Just kinda cool to know how they pulled it off. Well it least there is some hope after all for us stuck on 4.xx OFW. icon_e_biggrin.gif

From what I understand it basically works like the WODE for the Wii. It emulates the optical drive much like daemon tools does for the PC, and mounts the disc image tricking the PS3 into thinking that there is a real disc in the drive. It enables backups to be played from ISO while still being on official firmware. The plus side is that you will be able to continue to update your ps3 with official firmware and play on the PSN.

This is so confusing so does this work on 4.30 ofw or you have to be on 3.55 to get the drive keys
