The Cobra team we all know from the dongle they produced that gave us PSP, PS3, PS2, and PSX game support is back with something new and it’s not a dongle (thank god). The Optical Drive Emulator is in line to reinvent the way we play backup copies of our favorite games. But not only will it allow us to play our PS3 backups it will also allow for PS2/PS1 backups to be played on backwards compatible consoles as well as a whole slew of other features that have been packed into this little piece of hardware. One of the most important features you should know about is the "Solderless installation on all FAT consoles and 20xx/21xx SLIM consoles", hinting that newer consoles will require a soldered installation. Cobras ODE will be available this February and is currently taking orders, have a read of the full list of features below.

Models supported:
One hardware revision supports all. Our hardware has been designed to both fit inside and interface with the Super Slim version of the consoles, as well as the SLIM and older FAT systems. If you upgrade at any time from a FAT to a SLIM or a Super SLIM, then there's no need to buy a new device....

Support for the newer consoles such as 25xx, 3xxx and 4xxx to run ISO's will be

included at release.

Game Ripping:
Functionality will be added shortly after release of the device via a firmware update. Ripping speed will be almost as fast as that reached by connecting drive to PC and users will benefit from the convenience of a hassle free game ripping experience! Rip games directly on PS3 to an external USB HDD in ISO format.

Additionally we will provide a PC app at time of release of the product to market which allows conversion of JB game dumps to ISO format, so users can simply download games from the net and convert them with our app. The app will patch additional data required to create necessary ISO format.

Let's make things clear. Cobra-ODE is NOT 3k3y (that is pointless device because you need to be on CFW). But Cobra-ODE is innovative because it is compatible with all consoles and firmwares. These products are NOT the same. Also, all functions are included in the Cobra-ODE : rip games, command, ... no need to buy add-on for this.

Actually, it is a very good solution for people who owns new consoles that can not be downgraded to 3.55. They are taking presales from 100 to 120€.

Picture the PS3 that has a faulty Blu-ray with the broken laser .
I imagine (hope) that ODE would help just use rips with the ODE without having to ever use the Blu-ray to bootstrap ??

will this device allow backups or its just for those who do not wanna update and play original blue ray ps3 games? (and ps1 and ps2 ^^)

Just from using the game, without the risk of your Drive Blow it worths it, unfortunately sony does not let us Run games from HD.

108 € is kinda expensive. But this device sure sounds sexy. How long before the chinese starts making copies and selling them at a lower price?
