After 12 long years of being graced with some of the most memorable gaming moments I have ever had the pleasure of taking part in, the PlayStation 2 has finally ceased production worldwide. With Japan ceasing production just a week ago, this doesn't come as unexpected news. It is still sad to think though, that such an iconic console that defined an era will no longer be packaged in a fresh new box for older gamers to relive nostalgia, or younger gamers to be introduced to the most popular console ever.
This news was first confirmed to The Guardian, sourced below, that got news from Sony about the aforementioned information. With the PS2 selling over 150 million units worldwide, it is going to be a hard number to beat.
Post your nostalgia below, hug your PS2 tightly and take good care of what is a time machine that you definitely don't want to break or lose.

Or the fact that it takes an overpriced modchip and case mod to restore the hard drive connector and functionality on said slim systems that was both supported about as well as an abortion and required homebrew and/or modding anyway to really make good use out of?
And while many here are no doubt waxing nostalgic about the PS2, and I will admit it had some good games on the platform... did we all so quickly forget about how f*cking unreliable these POS systems were? The fact that Sony faced a class action lawsuit TWICE because of the manufacturing faults they integrated to the system by design? It's especially funny (and sad) knowing that the only reason my third PS2 is still kicking is because the modder I bought it from reinforced it by replacing all the resistors and capacitors on the board, along with adding some extra support wiring for the modchip in place. $5 worth of resistors, caps and solder managed to solve so many problems. And HDLoader has helped keep it actually usable for far longer than anything else I've owned with a Sony badge on it.
