From the name alone, you might be thinking that the goal of this game is to stop immigrants from breaking through your borders, but you couldn't be more wrong. Instead, this PC title from the Greenville South Carolina software outfit would rather plunge you into the depths of outerspace. As a human in a futuristic world, peril erupts when you and your friend are taken captive in a prison managed by foreign creatures. As any good prisoner would suggest, your first thought is to escape; but you certainly aren't going to be able to do that on your own. With a little help from a rogue alien, you are lead down to the mines. However, what you and your partner discover there is anything but ordinary. It is a force so powerful that it blows the galaxy you love into a million tiny pieces.
Understandably then, your role in the game suddenly shifts from captive to savior. Given the fact that you have just unleashed this kind of terror on everyone you know, you have made it your personal responsibility to travel to depths far and wide in an effort to bring every single speck of inter-stellar matter back together. If you think this sounds like a rather insane notion, you'd be right. The good news is, SomeArea highly encourages you to bring a friend along for the ride by using their unique brand of local co-op action. Sure you've heard and seen it all before, right? That my friends is where you'd be wrong. Most co-op games of today are fun, but there's no denying how liner they can be. Illegal Aliens will definitely place you in the same general area as the other player, but there is a sense of freedom in how things operate. For example, if you are at a point in the game that requires travel, one player can be driving your space craft while the other is performing a completely separate task somewhere near you. In sum, you get all the camaraderie of a multiplayer game with a single player sense of control.

In fact, this freedom even translates into the exploration excerpts as well due to the fact that the developers have created a world with absolutely no visible boundaries. In short, this means if you can see it, you can explore it. Thanks to this aspect of choice, you'll now have the chance to tackle different obstacles and explore varying lands in any sort of order you and you partner agree on. This allows you to manage the way the entire plot unfolds. It might sound a bit intimidating to read, but having been in contact with the developers myself, I've been told that players will be spending only as much time driving to new locales as they want.
When you aren't blasting through layers of stars, Illegal Aliens will also have you walking around metal-clad landscapes in a way that borrows from the action, RPG, and stealth genres. You might see just a hint of games like Dishonored here, but once again SomeArea has chosen to liven things up by adding another layer of complexity. As you interact with other characters in your journey, you will have the option of being friendly or hostile with them. The next question might be, what happens if you and your friend disagree on how to handle the situation. Just like in real life the people you meet can have different opinions and reactions to each person playing the game. That means if your friend does something to make an important character mad, you won't have to put up with the negative reaction unless you decide to be less than welcoming alongside them. It's this sort of individual togetherness that the entire experience hinges on. It allows you to make the game your own while creating avenues for multiple playthroughs. With power-ups that hone how your characters develop, there's no way to avoid the intense replay value in a game such as this.

Given this ground-breaking info, you probably are all looking to give Illegal Aliens some more attention. For now, the best way to do that is to head on over to the project's Kickstarter and donate as much money as you see fit. Over three years of production, it is clear that this team has worked tirelessly to create a title that lets you and a friend create your own destiny. Now, should you choose to do so, you have the chance to further your space exploration dreams by taking interest in something that just might revolutionize co-op play as we know it. One thing is certain: Illegal Aliens shows us that the sky's the limit when it comes to the unbridled potential of this concept.
