Cross Buy: Two For One!

Submitted by HolmesInFive; August 15, 2012

With the PS3 still seeming to be above the PS Vita, still struggling to gain support in its scene, thankfully Sony has thrown down some good news in the ways of versatility for both consoles!

Sony's new sales scheme called "Cross Buy" will now allow PSN gamers of both the PS3 and PS Vita to purchase a game on the PS Store, and use said game on both the PS3 and PS Vita.  This incentive has been previously used with games like "MotorStorm RC" and "WipEout HD Fury" allowing gamers to get MotorStorm on both consoles, and use WipEout HD Fury on PS3 while adding it as DLC on WipEout 2048 for Vita.

This announcement makes the idea something that Sony will obviously promote and expand on in the future, with "Ratchet And Clank Q Force", "PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale" and "Sly Cooper Thieves In Time" being the first 3 games that Sony are advertising as "Cross Buyable" PS Store content.

Thoughts on the idea?  Personally I think its a great content idea, and I will definitely take advantage of the offer with all 3 of the above mentioned games!

All Sony is doing is selling existing software but instead of the same experience you would expect on the Ps3 they're going to make the Vita's version lesser quality by removing things like Anti-Aliasing to help increase framerates... So you're not actually getting a "Handheld PS3". Smart move for Sony because now everyone is thinking all PS3 titles will look just as good on the Vita as the Ps3 which isn't true... just another way to re-brand what's already made and to re-sell it again only this time a lesser quality version. The vita's mobile RAM barely exceeds that of 800MHz so transfer speeds are extremely low and 'out of range' to be able to handle the resolution the PS3 deals with.

Will this cross-buy function also work if you but the game in a normal store? Like with a special code to get it as download on the other console?

this isn't about promoting the vita as a handheld ps3

this is about getting people to buy more games on the vita.

no better way, then to bundle it with a successful system like the ps3 and offer the mobile version for free.

for me personally, i much prefer to get the physical copy, but i'm guessing this incentive would be quite good to pad the numbers for ps vita game sales.

OT about the system specs, having both a quad core and quad gpu with 512mb ram and a dedicated 128mb gpu memory is quite powerul for a handheld system, the most powerful in fact. Do not forget that in it's current state, the CPU is underclocked for battery life and just like the psp, may be unlocked by sony at a later date (the psp cpu was uncapped with the release of God of War: Chains of Olympus)
