Some Homebrew for PS3 3.55 Jailbreak Updated

And here comes the 'brew for your geo-hacked PS3 running firmware 3.55. Read this, get jail broken, and install these packages: Comgenie's Awesome File Manager, the Super Nintendo emulator SNES9x, multiMAN (read: Backups do not work), and PS3 FTP Server. Copy each pkg file to a USB storage device. Connect that device to your PS3 and under the XMB Game menu select "Install Package Files." Update: Got some more for ya... Mednafen, which is a multi-system emulator, emulating the Nintendo NES, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, SEGA Master System and Game Gear. Also available is another NES emulator: FCEU-PS3. Update: Add another to the list... The SEGA Genesis / Mega Drive emulator! Update: Signed by Jake and Gamer2020 is VBA 0.9.9 -- the Nintendo Game Boy and Game Boy Advance emulator. Not sure what this means, but I discovered an interesting thing with this ‘jailbreak’. First, I installed it using the ‘System Update’ option in the XMB, then installed geohot’s test package, and all worked fine. I then re-installed the official 3.55 firmware by using the power-up recovery mode technique, which worked fine, but what I noticed was that while the ‘Install package’ option was now gone from ‘Game’ menu, the test application was still there and it ran fine (I didn’t expect it to be gone, but I also didn't expect it to run, either).

I wonder if this has any implications as far as preventing Sony from detecting jailbroken units and banning them. Thoughts on this matter, anyone?

Piracy has existed since games began.

XBOX was hacked a couple of weeks after being released, and it has just about every game that's on the PS3 (except their respective exclusives ofc). Has the quality slacked? No, of course it hasn't, pirates make up an extremely small % of gamers, and a lot of pirates will still continue to purchase games (presents for example).

Research shows that the majority of pirates play a large volume of games for a short period of time. Of those games, an extremely small amount of pirates would've actually purchased them.

COD: MW 2 grossed more on the XBOX than on the PS3 in it's first week. As I said earlier, the XBOX has been hacked since day 1 (effectively), yet its sales are still turning extreme profit.

So please, STFU about piracy.

Glad to see these releases coming so quickly. However it would be nice if I could scale the resolution to my 1080p screen since a lot of the text is off the screen and I can't read it in both the Awesome File Manager, Snes9x, and blackb0x FTP v1.2 So far the only scalable homebrew for 3.55 seems to be MultiMAN.. and THANK YOU FOR THAT! Hope we can get devs working on better resolution support. I know it's just early releases, and some are probably just going to be resigned from open-source.. but resolution changing options would be nice so I can at least read everything on the screen. :)

here's a generous tip from the pirateking!
How to install Geo's 3.55 jailbreaker.
Step 1 - Create a file in USB called PS3 and in it UPDATE (must be in capital letters)
Step 2 - Put Geo's file in the UPDATE folder
Step 3 - On ur ps3 console, go to system update and update it via storage space
Step 4 - Ur ps3 will compose a beeping orchestra.
Step 5 - Congratz! ur ps3 is now permanently jailbroken.
Step 6 - Give thanks to Geohot for providing us selfish human for turning our ps3 into an even awesome thing.

So basically the JB is only needed to do the initial homebrew install, after which we can revert the machine back to OFW. If this is correct, then again my question is how does this affect Sony's ability to flag a machine as hacked, and thus ban it? If the firmware is thoroughly official, perhaps there's no way whatsoever for them to detect any funny business.

General consensus is that they can't.

But, I'd imagine updates can be released to check for signing irregularities. This is just my theory/opinion, and is not based on anything solid.

I think we'll just have to see if it pans out. After all, the hackers have made their move, now it's Sony's turn.

If it doesn't provide access to LV2 backups aren't going to work.

multiman does alot of things...give it a few days and I can almost guarantee that we'll be playing backups on the PS3 3.55 style.

To answer your question about reverting to OFW and retaining the JB packages.

Yes, that should be fine. However, the backup managers require the CFW for the kernel level BD emulation.

That's what is missing from geohots firmware, and why multiman doesn't work for backups.

Try installing nathan_r32_69 (the Spanish Dev) firmware, and running this version of multiMAN, and you'll probably encounter better results tho.

At work at the mo, so can't test it myself.

I have 3.55 cfw by geohot and I've tried running multiman. It works and it copies game to hdd, but game doesn't start..
I tried Borderlands, and now I'm copying Assassin's Creed II.. Are you get multiman backupmanager works? With which games?

i just played snes. you need to locate the rom files on your flash drive to run them. i personally used the file manager to copy them to my ps3 hard drive. when snes opens, it has a very small menu showing the ps3 file structure, if you have a flash drive in it will be the last item listed, otherwise the hard drive will be the last one (2nd to last if you have flash drive in). locate your rom files and they run, but there's a white line that stays in the middle of the screen. anyone know if that's just a bug for the early build?

to play "backups" wouldnt someone need to patch the LV2, so a simple homebrew app wouldnt work, and if u watch geohots vid, he does that "OMG OMG OMG OMG" bit and says dont patch lv2 you'l brick the console, soooo, might be waiting a bit longer than expected imo

Can anyone help me out? I've been trying to install this since last night and I get the beeps but when i reboot it there's no changes made to my system. The only thing it did was stop me from downloading PSN items. When i press download in PSN store my PS3 just freezes. Still trying to fix that.

All versions of the Ps3 run PSX games. However PS3SX is an homebrew emulator which allows you to run psx games off a CD-R or USB port i assume.

Say for example your PSX disk is really old or isnt working. you could copy it and save it onto an external hdd or even the ps3 HDD if im correct, and run them off them.

Not really a piracy person myself but PSX games should have been free for ps3 and psp in the first place. they're old enough anyways.

If he signed the pkg. files by the tools from Geohot, he could did this. I don't know so much about this, but I think it's logical. On Geohot's Jailbreak works only that file, which was signed by tools from Geohot, so if he did this, It should work. But I'm not an expert, it's only the way that I think.

the ps3 uses fat32 only for EXTERNAL drives.
INTERNAL drive is NTFS-formatted for the ps3

Backup Manager Will not run even if you sign the PKG file.

There's no Lv2 access right now, and in order to run backups, we need Lv2 access.

Geohot has even said right now do not even attempt to patch lv2 as you are guarantee'd a nice big sony paperweight.

Reminds of of the psp hacking days.

ps3 does not use fat32 for the internal drive.
fat32 is used for the external drives only.

I am on 3.41 so no way to test that what I ve read somewhere:

If u use direct boot it doesn't need lv2. But only 3 out of 10 games working with that.

Whats up and yes the shit works, what I have done was copy all the files from the public tools that geohot allowed us to have and pasted on the root of the usb, I also put the pkg files in the same area (root of usb) and then put in the ps3, then I used the "install package files" and surprise for me, it worked. Tried mario all stars only thing is the numbers in the middle of the screen.

I just tried the recovery mode and still doesn't work. It gave me an error code so I download the other version to fix that but it doesnt work either. Im getting error code 8002f2c5.

Same here, EUR FAT 60GB PS3, Geo FW installs fine from XMB. After succesfull update, hear one beep followed by 2 consecutive beeps. No install packages option in XMB after start up.
Geo FW in recovery mode update I get an error "corrupted data".

When visiting the PS store, on demo download, system hangs. Checks and finds altered FW of course.

Flashed back OFW 3.55 through recovery mode. All is back to normal.. :(

Kept it on FW3.41, kids flashed it accidently no too long ago, aaaaarrrggh >< ;)

With the recent release of Geohot's 3.55 custom firmware, it was only a matter of time, before backups would be up and running. News is coming in that a user named Riku.kh3 has accomplished just that. He has managed to run Castlevania: Lords of Shadow from his internal hard drive, while on Geohot's 3.55 Custom Firmware. He achieved this by patching the game's main executable file (EBOOT.BIN) and making the PS3 think it's a PSN game.

If that preocess actually works as such, it doesn't seem like it would be that difficult to create a "backup manager" that simply rips games and installs them as PSN titles. I mean, you wouldn't even need to do the whole /dev_bdvd redirect thing to make it run, just dump the files from disc to the appropriate folder and patch the eboot. Admittedly, that means incorporating an implementation of fail0verflow's tools directly into said backup manager, but still...

I have started my ps3 game collection but when i unzip a game from ps3 i s o. c o m , there is a folder with PS3_GAME and inside that loads of files looks proper, is this how most games come packaged on the net, i thought they would be ISO images be great if someone knew the answer i have googled and couldnt find an awnser - kind regards

You have to get the Fluke1 Custom 3.55 firmware.. Then flash your ps3 with that.. then reaplly Geohots 3.55.

THEN you have to wait for MULTIman to be released for the fluke1 custom 3.55 fw.. THEN you can run backups of the HDD..

OK here is some proof that lv2 patching works. Intstall peek/poke patch and then geohots patch then run mednafen for 3.55 look what comes up dev_hhd0 and dev_usb006 that is the key we now have lv2 patch bring on the backups!!!

People - I have a method for you to use in the battle against Sony & their ever watching eyes.
I've tried and tested this myself, and it works.

1. Unplug/disconnect from your router
2. Install Geo's Custom Firmware on a fresh install of 3.55
3. Install all the .pkg's you wish to use via package installer.
4. Reinstall a fresh copy of the official Firmware, 3.55.
5. Reconnect to network/router.

Whilst this should theoretically prevent Sony from detecting any form of custom firmware, the applications that you have installed will still work.

Just don't be stupid and play them whilst you're connected to the network...

I have use the geohot's 3.55jd fw it works fine. I can be online fine even install the compatible homebrew. It all seems to just fine but I do not know if you can play backed up games with Multiman Backupmanager will work, but everything else seem to work just fine. Remember when you install geohot's 3.55jd fw do it like any normal fw though the xmb. To get back to official 3.55 fw just go in recovery mode. Follow the on-screen instructions and go Choose Update via Storage Media.

1.download the level 2 patch with peek/poke
2. next step is to Use bspatch to apply PS3UPDAT.PUP.bsdiff to Sony's official 3.55 PUP but how do u do that?
3. Run this from command line: "bspatch PS3UPDAT.PUP PS3UPDAT-NEW.PUP PS3UPDAT.PUP.bsdiff" but how do i do this in a simple answer?
4. Ensure that the md5sum of the resulting PS3UPDAT.PUP is: 337831fac6a9b05074f73710c4bb7c86 but again how do i do this is a simple answer?
5. Simply install the patched PS3UPDAT.PUP onto your PS3, then install geohot's jailbreak. again how do i do this lol and as well u can do this over geohots firmware but u will have to re install it after u have doe this procces

If you are using the flukes1/netkas and Geohot CFW combo set up, *DO NOT* install Open Manager 2.1. DO NOT. It *doesn't* work, it installs, but running it brings a black screen, you cannot shut the system off without disconnecting the power completely (Or on a fat PS3, switch it off from the back), and trying to delete it first gives an error, then leaves corrupted data on your hard disk. I've had to completely erase my drive to restore it, rebuild database did nothing. BEWARE.

Anyone get fba to read roms? I was able to install the emu but it won't read the roms. I've tried putting the roms on the root of the usb in folders called "FBANEXT-Roms" "roms" "ROMS" and every combination I can think of. I've also tried putting them in the usdir folder with no avail. Any ideas?

If you are currently on Firmware 3.41(Jailbroken) there is no need to upgrade to GeoHots jailbreak as you will lose full support of backups and these homebrews are already available for 3.41, these are just repackaged for the new (new doesn't always mean best) firmware for the 3.55 Jailbreak.

Backup manager does work, I tested it with Madden 10, but nobody has released a launcher that correctly tasks lv2 param from backup on dev_hdd0....

I'm actually having trouble installing pkg files. I keep getting error 80029564 for some reason. I have no clue why. I reverted to OFW and now I'm trying the copy here. I tried to build my own first but maybe I did something wrong although I don't think so.

I have an old ps3 on ofw3.55. Installed 3.55 jb successfully. I install pkg's but can't get them to run. It launches but only shows a black screen.i can't even get geo's test pkg to work. Any ideas..... Thanx in advance

i did it, you can still play online if you just did the jailbreak for 3.55 ... but my problem is multiman sucks for me :(

Impossible. PS3 and PS2 processors are not compatible and are not X86. Current PS2 EMUs are X86, therefore you would need to create custom emu for PS3.

can anyone help me with running neo roms on fba emulator?

all neogeo games do not display properly and i know i need to intstall the neogeo.zip bios in with the roms, i have done this but games still the same, i have tried 3 different bios files now :-(

any help would be great

regarding the neo geo roms problem where did you get the roms and what roms arnt workin if there not showng up its not a bios problem the rared rom is missing a file or corrupt and it wont always be recognized if they dont run properly with glitches ect thats a bios problem, if your downloading the roms from mame not the neo geo rom list you will need a mame bios you will need this anyways for the likes f crouching tiger hidden dragon and svc chaos hopes this helps : )))))

in the end i found a different emulator to run with the ps3 and i find that the roms now play correctly although some of them dont work but i know thats just down to the emu and not bios.

just think that with this version of fba and my 320g & jb on 3.5 with the bios i was using it didnt like it!

I Played a backup game without the disc in. I had to put another disc in though. I copied my bioshock over and pug assassin's creed in the drive and played bioshock just fine

if anyone is having problems with speed when transfering files by ftp using multiman and flash fxp then you need to use black box as some ftp clients do not like transferring to multiman and pause between each file!

thats right you can copy any game to your hard drive and only use one original in the drive, some games from the hard drive wont even need anything in the drive to play, there is now an updated version that will allow more titles to play without a disk in the drive
