Mednafen: A Multi-System Emulator Ported to the PS3

Submitted by greg; October 26, 2010

Someone wanna give this a go? I personally haven't tried it myself, but if Robo Hobo's earlier work says anything, then it should be all right. This is Mednafen (a multi-system emulator) ported to the PS3. Mednafen emulates the NES, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, SEGA Master System and Game Gear. Expect PCE (or TurboGrafx 16) support soon. Mednafen is said to currently support zipped roms and save states. Nice work, Robo. And I want support for NTFS or any other filesystem wich supports files bigger than 4 gb. Is anyone working on that? Wouldn't it be possible to port the PS3 format utility to the PC, so that we could format external hdd's with the PS3's filesystem? I currently have 2 games that I can't play because of this :(

MKV is just a file container. Just use mkvtovob to get your mkvs to work on ps3.

Move them to the internal drive if you want to play them?

If there's not room, then install a bigger internal drive, it's actually pretty trivial to do in the fat PS3s, not sure about the slims.

It is just as easy to change a harddrive in the PS3 Slim compared to changing a harddrive in the PS3 Phat :) Just unscrew one screw and take the harddrive out, and that is it :)

.mkv support is useless without a new harddrive format.

When we need externals anyways it would make sense to have a normal HDD format for them.

Moving a 20gb game to the internal then deleting it every time you want to play it is ridiculous. So is paying twice as much for a 2.5 inch drive. 2tb 3.5 inchers are $99 now a days.

If people weren't interested in making the same backup manager 50 times maybe there could be some work done on it.

Thats cool as soon as i can get my ps3 hacked i i'll put use of the GBA program U.U
Would be nice t osee maybe it run PSP games too. I know my psp games would get more use out of them on a big screen. My psp is old has slow loading times on some games. I know you can buy thaat cord or w/e but its not the same. Sony should added that period from the start.

I installed it and I got my GBA zip files to work. Man this thing is SICK! The only problem I have is that when you install it, it will ask you what buttons you want for A and B. I messed up and switched A for B and the ONLY way to correct that is to uninstall the program and reinstall it. Make sure you get it right the first time!

The good: Ok, Let me start by saying-- WOW!!! THE GBA looks amazing, nintendo is working great, the GB is AWESOME!!

The not so good (cause there really is no bad): You have to exit to change roms. SNES and SEGA don't seem to be fully working just yet.
But really great job keep it up.

PS @ solderguy if u press L3+R3 in game it will bring up the button config menu

yep this is a problem...
but we can split mkv or copy to internal..

and why noone do a simply winrar clone for ps3?

i think noone need to play old game like emulator in a ps3...
play it on pc...on telephone...iphone...nds..etc..etc..etc..

i think it's only a waste of time do 1-2-3-10 emulator for ps3

If you ask me, I think it's better to run your games from internal HDD, couse first of all, none have failed to run so far and second the reading speed is better than from USB2. Offcourse, being able to have your games in an external, which will propably be 2times bigger with the same money as an 2.5" is also realy useful, but it's also better to have a big internal :)

Thankyou to the website and all the hard working devs. this emulator is excellent for an early release. tried a few ROMS.
Plays Gameboy, Gameboy Colour, Gameboy Advance, Game Gear, Master System, atari Lynx, nes, and PC Engine.

Only needs some minor tweaks here and there and it'll be the dogs. (main gripes would be having to configure controls each time you start a game, and having to restart the app when you wish to change roms)

Has a great bookmark feature so you can save shortcuts to your rom directories.

Highly recommend, great work!

Strange this post is totaly unrelated to what I was searching google for, but it was listed on the first page. I guess your doing something right if Google likes you enough to put you on the first page of a non related search

Can I just say what a relief to seek out somebody who really is aware of what theyre speaking about on the internet. You definitely know how one can convey a difficulty to gentle and make it important. More people have to read this and perceive this aspect of the story. I cant imagine youre no more in style since you positively have the gift.
