As usual whenever a new hack is found within a firmware update, Sony has to issue some kind of fix to stop it. In a move that they normally rationalize as "protecting their investment," if you've been following the scene sometimes these updates can come at completely obvious times. Firmware 1.81 is absolutely no exception to this rule. Adding just one digit to it's name, the main function for this release is to block the recent glitch found within Monster Hunter Freedom Unite that allowed gamers to run VHBL on their shiny new PS Vita devices with the latest firmware.
Released less than a week from the public release of VHBL r160, this maneuver comes as a clear strike back against the PS Vita homebrew scene. As the company began their campaign by forcibly ripping the game from store shelves after news of the announcement, this particular method seems like a lot more direct and system-based approach to deal with their apparent problem. Obviously I probably don't have to tell you that if you value homebrew at all you should definitely stay away from this one. It won't give you any features, but rather a less functional system instead. Hopefully we'll be hearing a response from Neur0n with regards to this firmware in the coming days or hours.
