Part of me feels sorry and part of me is kind of pissed off by the Vita. Sonys latest handheld was set to be a phenomenon, a really amazing games console and it is, but it isnt what people wanted. Ive played the Vita and I was extremely impressed but as much as I was impressed, I couldnt help but feel the console was missing something special and sorry Sony, this is entirely your fault.
For a start what the hell is the price all about? I know you have to make your money but it is more expensive than a new PlayStation 3 and it is essentially a smaller version. Secondly its so typically Japanese, Sony spends so much time worrying about how their products will be received in the western world and then we get possibly the most stereotypical Japanese device ever.
However it isnt just the western world that are struggling to grasp the concept of this new device, it would seem that the Japanese have also given up on it. Since the first fortnight of the handhelds release, sales have continually plummeted and now it is looking worse than ever.
Just under 14,000 sales last week! 14,000?!!!!
Oh Sony, what happened? Vita...Y U NO liked by anyone? I'll tell you why, you arent Nintendo. People dont want handhelds that arent made by Nintendo or ones they cant hack. Sony has become so worried about users hacking their device that they are constantly challenging the hackers. I hate to break it to you Sony but the only reason I bought a PSP was so I could hack the fuck out of it.
It is quite apparent that Sony wont allow hackers, so they have to do something else to bring success to the Vita and with the insane asking price why would I go out and by something I essentially have at home? Its called a PlayStation 3.
Let me know your thoughts.

I hacked the hell out of my PSP too, I loved checking PSP-Hacks everyday for new apps and custom firmware news but when there was not many new psp games coming out I was almost shamed to own a hacked PSP....but it was fun.
OF course hackers only want to buy consoles that they can hack but if it has good games then people will support the Vita. It is too early to tell if it will fail or win but Sony is in this battle for the long run.

Dash hacks has kind of gone to shit...
This was the most bias post that I've seen in a while. You probably wouldn't say anything about the Vita if it had a price tag you agreed with. The Ps3 was expensive when it first came out too...
And what is that supposed to mean? It's shiny so it's Japanese? I for one like the look of shiny things...
The fuck? If you're buying Nintendo consoles just because it has a Nintendo name on it, you're a dumbass anyways. You buy a console based on what you want to use it for.
And if the PSP was NEVER hacked, I bet you anything you still would have bought one eventually.

This article Isnt biased at all, if it was then I would have openly admitted my hatred for the Vita and simply ripped into it which I didn't. I simply highlighted facts about the handheld and suggesed why that might be the case. The Vita's sales have plummeted insane amounts since its release, on top of that they want the same price for a new Vita game as they would for a PS3 title which is unacceptable. You can't hope to compete with other companies like Nintendo when your games and console are more expensive.
I have used the console and started by saying I was impressed with it, not until after this did I begin to discuss its faults. This is anything but biased. The fact of the matter is the handheld isn't selling and their has to be a reason why and wether it is fair or not, price and hacking are very obvious reasons.
Thanks for your comment.

Because the Vita is too little too late.
I would have been excited for it years ago, but that was when I was still excited about the PSP.
Maybe instead of trying to fight off the hackers they could have released this instead of the GO.

$249 is pretty freakin' cheap actually. You can't just compare it to the PS3 thinking that it should be cheaper because it's smaller. Being smaller makes it a WAY better deal than the PS3 right now. Plus, this is brand new. The PS3 was like $600 when it came out. I don't recall what the PSP cost at launch, but I'm fairly sure it was more than the Vita.
Next: The Vita is hackable. There's already homebrew for it, from what I've read. I agree Sony are assholes who will always try to block it, but there's no way this is a reason for its low sales. The PS3 was unhackable for what, 5 years? And it sold pretty well.
As far as Sony vs Nintendo naming, Nintendo aims at kids, where Sony seems to aim for adults, or at least young adults. Everyone and their brother have a smart phone that can play games these days. Why would I bring a PS Vita around with me when I can pass the time on the subway playing games on my phone?

I dont see why your crying about the price. The thing cost 250$ and considering what you get that price is amazing. An ipad cost more than 500$ and it has less power than the vita. Many of the phones in the market today cost more than 500 by themselves. Ex: Iphone 4s 650$, and your complaining about 250$ for a vita lmao man this article is just stupidness i agree everything wethegreenpeopl e said..

You sir are an idiot. I don't think Sony messed up at all. Nor does anyone I know who has seen a vita. The price is a lot of course but so is every damn console that has come out. And Nintendo is fighting hacking on the 3ds like no other dumbass. You apparently are just a broke piece of shit that is so illogical that you don't use common sense at all. Check your facts: Sony never sold good in the west, the vwill sales will sky rocket once everyone has the opertunity to get one. I love mine. Way more then any of my consoles ps3 included. Wish there was more content on the psn for it but it just came out so not everything is up and running. The games are 100 times better which is the reason the psp sucked. Psp had a handful of good games that's it. This already has a handful of good games and it's only been out 2 days here in the US. So your just a complete Moro and don't ever waste my time like you have reading a bullshit post like this you fucking tool bag.

You sir are an idiot. I have my vita and love it. And as soon as the $250 version hits I know tons of people that are getting it. Everyone that Iknow that has seen a vita thinks its amazing. Sony did great this time around and it's only going to get better. Nintendo is fighting piracy like crazy with the 3DS so your completely wrong about that dumbass. And the only reason most people hacked the psp is cause it only had a handful of good games. No one wants to pay for shitty games. The vita already has a handful of awesome games. So please you dirty shitbag of a tool stop wasting my time by posting your whiny little bitches that make no sense. A big fuck you for disgracing dashhacks!

First of all, sales hasn't come out yet for America. Not even for the FEBs. Second, the launch titles were almost entirely aimed for the western (not that the Japanese can't enjoy it). Plus, even if the Vitas do fail at first, that's completely normal with the selection of games with any launch title. While the selection was pretty good for launch, there's always a lack of something. Such as an online shooter and/or RPG, and such. I wouldn't say this article is biased. It's just too early.

All people I know are very impressed by Vita videos available, even if they are Nintendo fans. I'm sure they are even more impressed, when they can see it next week in MY hands ;)
Time will tell.

I get hating the stupid touch screen and the stupid touch pad on the back, I get hating the built in battery and I get hating the stupid new UI. I don't see why the XMB wouldnt have worked with a touch screen. It would have worked better in my opinion. However the power you get is crazy for the price. Throw on top of that that someone will hack it wide open soon enough. I'm not updating anymore. 1.6 is where I stop and wait for a hack. And when I'm playing ps2/gamecube on my vita then I'll have the best portable in the world.

I got a vita on the 15th and is amazing all together! it's a total overkill with features so many i wont spoil, after playing uncharted golden abyss I looked at my 3ds and said "nintendo your still generations behind with cheap hardware, and outdated graphics... resident evil revelations was ok but the lagging and tough controls suck.) The Vita is an all around amazing product so many implemented feautures in game to draw you in your jaw drops quite often. so you complaining and not thinking that japan has a long history of being in and out of recessions which effects whether or not to buy a system since they work 2-3jobs to live. That's the real reason why it's not doing so well. Nintendo Overhype , sony delivers.... Next time you write a review actually play a game on the system, sometimes you have to take a second bite for it to taste better.

Sales have dropped from 400,000 to 14,000 since its release because the handheld doesn't have a selling point. I never said the console was bad, in fact I said I liked it but it doesn't have a focused selling point at the moment. For the price, it seems to much like the PlayStation 3 to have an individual selling point.

Very fair opinion.
Thanks for your comment.

Not because it is smaller should it be cheaper but because it is little a smaller version of the PlayStation 3. The handheld is brilliant, I've played it and liked it. What I'm saying is that it is a lot of money for something most people already have at home.

Goddamn the Sony fanboys are out in droves. "STFU you douche, I lovez my Vita and Sony iz ze god!" ROFLMAO! Jesus. These comments are just downright pathetic!
Anywho... I plan on getting a Vita myself but I'm gonna wait for better hacks. Likewise I'm gonna buy it second hand. I will NEVER buy a product directly from Sony again. Why? Because of everything they have done. They always find new ways to fuck over their customers. I stopped buying games for the PS3, and I will never buy games for the Vita. Unless of course it's from Ebay, or through Gamestop. (meaning used copies.)
I agree though that the price is pretty steap. But it is just after launch so that is to be expected.

Why dis on a system that has even had a chance to show its potential. Serioulsy, it just came out 2 days ago. I already have my First Edition Vita and I'm quite impressed with it. I believe this system will be like a PS3 and not have a refresh for years unlike the PSP. It is in the league of major console and not handhelds. Sony has plenty of time to roll out with new firmware updates to make it better. All i ask them for is PS1 Game compatibility back. Oh, and texting and phone calls for the 3G/Wifi models.

"the handheld doesn't have a selling point" I disagree it just has to do with the lack of Japanese oriented games.
Uncharted isn't a big franchise out there and that's the biggest game on vita. Do you think the console would sell well? Also 3DS sales have increased due the fact that Monster Hunter was announced! if the 3DS has the price drop but with no software to back it up it wouldn't have sold well.
So not everyone hates Vita due the fact it has been selling in 2 countries Hong Hong and Japan, with a western games!!

I don't see why people are already complaining about something that hasnt officially came out yet except for the First Edition PS Vita which i have. I'm quite impressed with it. It runs so smooth. Yes it is lacking in a few things but those can be added in future software updates by Sony. I mean for real it just came out and hasnt even been given a chance to show its full potential. In my opinion it needs calling and texting added to it, also PS1 compatibility, what more would anyone want? Sony made the Vita to extend the time the PS3 has before they need to release a new console. For now let Sony do their thing by providing firmware updates to make it better. It out preforms all handhelds out now and competes with major consoles. This system probably wont have a hardware update for a few years like the PS3. Just give it time.

the games for the ps vita were targeted for the people in the west, when they make a monster hunter game, there will be a lot more ps vitas sold. also people buy phones and tablets that cost more than a ps3 and they don't have a problem with that.

To be fair about the price, it's the same as the PSP when it came out, and I got mine day one seeing it was launched on my birthday. I don't regret having the PSP over the DS, in a way the PSP had more great hits than the DS had, you just had to know what you were looking for. The sad part was though that their were little to no advertisement for PSP games so it was really hard to weed out the really great gems, and that is were piracy came in to play. I was able to try a ton of games and find the ones I really wanted to play. Problem was Sony made it very difficult for hackers and when DAX left the scene the PSPs were basically stuck for a while at firmware 5.00. I loved some of the games and would have gladly bought some like Birth by Sleep, but with an outdated firmware and not really motivated to messing around with the firmware and tricks to get newer UMDs to play in fear of loosing my hacks and having to use my pandora battery and start from scratch (course I could also just make a new backup but I just don't really want to mess with it at this point), I just will never be able to buy some of the later PSP gem titles and that's when a lot of them came out. I also blame Sony for me getting into hacking my PSP, the PSP had nothing in terms of games when it came out so emulators of classic titles was the way to go (which also ruined the Nintendo VC for me because I thought the prices were ridiculous). Back then the Memory Sticks were ridiculous and small as well, rembeber paying $40 for a 256MB card, which was a vast improvements from my 32MB cards that came with my PSP. Now I have a 24GB card thanks to my Photofast SD Micro RAID Memory Stick.
I do think the VIta is a great system, and would gladly buy it if I had the spare cash. The system is fantastic and does put the 3DS to shame, especially with how fluid the menu works and the large OLED screen with PS3 style HD visuals. It has some games I definitely want like Gravity Rush and Touch my Katamari. Unfortunately for Sony I saw more potential with the 3DS games announced so I went that path, and have regretted it at all with my Zelda 3DS system. Though after playing Gravity Rush demo at GS I really want to play the full game. I'm kinda holding out on a Cell Phone version of Vita, I would buy that in a heart beat.

I have one and its worth it. Whether you are gamers or not. Once you use it, it will kick those ipad kids back home.
Playing games in vita is whole new way for gaming on any console (Especially for uncharted and dynasty warrior). You have those front and rear touch abilities that not enjoy at Playstation 3. Pointing your vita under direct light to reveal the mysterious writing in uncharted, waving the vita to manual the boat, activate your musou in dynasty warrior are few good examples that could amaze everybody around you that Vita could able to push gaming more than just touch screen and analog stick gaming. Fifa 12 is another new level of what Vita could bring NEW exprience to gamers.
The bad side is that 1. Games are too little atm. 2. All Vita are locked to one account only. If your son, wife, gf need to play it with their own profile, they need to purchase another one. 3. Games are expensive now.
Other that the 3 cons up there, this is trully amazing device every gamers should own.

If I'm being honest with you here that is somewhat of a stereotyped post you made there yourself...
Also... Sony has still to uncover the upcoming C# SDK... if that one is made available at good conditions then it could in fact make Vita the official homebrew god...
I doubt it with Sonys anti hacking policy though... but if they manage to jump over their shadow by making this available at good terms then Vita will become a powerhorse homebrew console with no need of hacking whatsoever.

why are morons complaining about the vita.. OH because your mummy wont buy you one and you own a shitty xbox... the ps vita is the best handheld since slice bread, its an amazing console... graphics for a handheld are incredible, touch screen good battery life, very light. good games. and the price is fair.. WTF is this moron talking about comparing it to a PS3 that has been out nearly 10 years dumb ass stupid moron.... this is a new console and for £200 its a complete steal... 90% of the people i know own smart phones update every two years and they are more than doiuble the price, and the features are hardly worth it... like the iphone 4 to 4s... complete joke, yet noone complains about that.... people that are complainging about the vita are freaks........ it is absolutely amazing. espeically for someone like me that loves gaming but has too work. and havent got time to game on the PS3 nomore . so i can take my vita with me anywhere and play ps3 equivalent games on the move.......... vita rules,,, only complaint i have, is like apple and sony and every god dam money robbing company strealing our money byt making, exclusive memory cards, or exclusive power outlets.........
WTF do that to people, i must own about 5 million different remotes, and 5 million different power adapters, and 5 million different types of memory cards...... WHY NOT JUST USE THE ONE TYPE...... it doesnt make any sense and is just robbing people of their money......... its not just sony, its apple and all other stupid companies.. the money could be spent on better things if those compnies wernt full of distasteful prats making exclusive equiptment and charging a bomb for them..... CUNTS.
