PS Vita To Cost $931 In Brazil

Submitted by Demonchild; February 04, 2012

As far as I can remember, it seems as if everything costs an insane price in Brazil when compared to other markets. Word on the street is that the Vita will be sold at R$1.600,00. When converting that to US dollar bills, that's $931. For the price of, or almost 3 PS3 consoles, you can get a Vita in Brazil.

When it comes to other consoles, the PS3 costs a whooping $1,299 USD and the 4GB 360 Slim goes for $799 USD. Without a doubt, I think that importing the Vita from the US, UK and hell, even Japan will run at a cheaper rate than buying locally. Not to mention, this is the price of the console itself. Imagine how much more it would run you after the fact, when you factor in a memory card and games.

If I lived there, I'd have to import one. No way I'm going to pay that much for one.

Actually, the console prices you mentioned are in BRL, not in US$. PS3 official price is R$ 1299,00 and Xbox 4GB is R$799,00. US$1 = R$1,75 roughly.

Guys, are you stupid? There are a lot of black makets, where the vita will cost as much as in US.

That may explain why a lot of Brazilians buy my old Xbox 360 games from the USA on eBay.  They even sometimes win the game for more than what I paid for it or wanted to get for it.

(BR here)

I use to get my consoles from US, or on Paraguay, and games, i mostly use UK shops and Ebay sometimes, a Launch title for PS3 costs around R$ 200,00 or US$ 110,00 . The Xbox 360 price u said is a bit wrong, ever since it started to be produced here, the average price for a Slim 4gb is around R$ 650,00 or US$ 360,00 and launch games around US$ 90,00

Gears of War 3 , wich u can easily buy for around 30 bucks in US, here u would have to pay US$ 70,00.

the taxes rules for video games, are not the same for PC games, so it's way cheaper to play PC games on Brazil.

The market for second handed games here is strong, but we still pay higher prices, you can easily buy an Battlefield bad company on ebay for around 10 - 12 bucks, or get ir used from uk for 15 eur, but here it would cost at least US$ 35,00

to get a Vita here, i will wait till end of year, so i can travel to our friend country (paraguay), and beleave me even there a Vita is now costing U$ 500,00 with 3G, my hopes are that by the end of the  year i need only to expend around US$ 350,00.

It's a shame that things runs this way here, there are laws to be aproved/or not... to consider video games softwares same category as PC games, but, this kind of thing takes forever to happen here. Politicians are more focused projects in wich they can make money for theyr own pockets. If Microsof/Sony/Nintendo offers enought money..... and buy them.... who knows.

Prices here are ridiculous. Not too long ago I saw FFXIII in a store for R$190, Skyrim for over R$200 and Fallout 3 (normal edition) for R$150. No wonder most of us import games.

We have a phrase that defines this country well: "Se cobrir vira circo, se cercar vira hospĂcio." (if you cover it becomes a circus, if you fence it becomes a mental asylum.)
