Remember the Playstation SDK suite that was released by Sony a while back? It's available for everyone to create applications that can be run on several Sony devices such as the Vita. Apparently, you can also make a NES emulator with it.
The guy(s) over at GlichXP has put together a tutorial on how to port a NES emulator for Windows. You just have to download a few programs (SDK, Vita Connect and the emulator), do a bit of copying and then transfer it all to your Vita and you're done.
The good part of about this is that you can obviously run some NES classics on your Vita without the need of VHBL. When Sony finally gets around to patching all the exploits, you'll still be able to enjoy this, until another one is found. The bad part about however, is that the emulator is restricted to 15 fps only.
If that's not a problem, you can head on over to GlichXP for the full tutorial on how to get this running.

Well you know what I mean. The fact that I can play Contra on my vita now even at 15fps gives me a reason to dust off the screen and charge it

The Vita only has 4 cores...

4 core gpu "SGX543MP4+" and a 4 core "tegra 3" there for 8 cores 9 if you consider the stealth core in the tagra 3
