I've decided to start my own weekly/fortnightly/monthly post going by the title of "Feedback With -Hacks". Basically I write an opinionated article or an article based on a topic of interest, and the nice people of the -Hacks community (you) provide feedback related to that topic. Let's get started shall we?
Our topic of tertiary importance today is that of Sony's console activation limit, and problems we are now faced with because of it.
As of November last year, Sony implemented the new 2 console limit for account activations (both PSP and PS3). This served as an annoyance for many customers, but to counteract this disappointment Sony released this website, giving gamers the means of deactivating consoles from their computers.
Now if you have all of your content managed nicely between lets say, five PS3's and five PSP's as a hypothetical, whether is be game sharing or YLOD consoles, then that is just dandy! What you may not know is that unfortunately the PS Vita has been placed under the PSP category.
This was brought to my attention today by a friend trying to download PSP games to his Vita, only to be told that £300 worth of content is already activated on 5 consoles, and cannot be activated on your Vita. To make matters worse, the PSP's that were still activated had earlier been sold/traded in without deactivation.
Fortunately this problem was later resolved, as you can collectively deactivate all consoles activated to your account with the link above. Taking a look at the bigger picture, it is disappointing news that the PS Vita is classified as part of the PSP activation count.
This is where your opinion comes in. Leave a comment letting us know what you think about the Vita being tied up with the PSP's activation count. Personally, I thought it was going to be pretty obvious that the Vita would be placed under its own activation count, and most others I have since asked thought the same.
Hope the article idea is well recieved, even some feedback on that would be good too!

First of all, hey Jake. Remember to check out my site site out more often. I have a mobile version of it, and short links for it now. http://bit.ly/tchmnswld is my normal site, and http://bit.ly/tchmnswldm is my site. The long links are http://techmansworld.blogspot.com and just add a "/?m=1" to the end of the address to activate the mobile version.
And yes, I would have been worried too about activation if I didn't know about this. But Engadget covered this months ago. Weird that no one really picked up on this.

Yeah we only figured it out today. Guess it wasn't really noticed so much at first.

Awesome, I'll check it out. The thing is this hasn't been covered by a lot of sites and it needs to be, I seriously almost lost it today. I was so close to selling my Vita.

I still don't like that Sony is putting such a low limits on devices. I have 2 PSPs and 2 PS3s right now and I may get more. I haven't decded on wether or not I am getting a Vita with Sony's new ToS and Privacy Policy.

I think this is a bit ridiculous. Why on earth would someone need more than 5 PS3s? Or more than 5 PSP/Vitas?
You said you were able to deactivate old broken/sold/lost devices, so what is the problem?

The 5 console limit at first was a safety measure for broken consoles and not being able to deactivate them. Using your account for gamesharing was not at all part of the plan. With Sony knowing that people were sharing games with their friends, they took away this versatility. Its all about the money. 5 was too much to start with but it may have been a decision based on how poorly the launch PS3's performed.
