YouTube App For Vita Gets a Major Facelift

Submitted by Christopher Groux; December 11, 2012

In the general term of things, the YouTube version 1.0 for the Vita more or less functioned. It played the videos we needed it to by downloading them to our memory card, but not much more than that. As the popular streaming service has continued to grow over the years, there are still more features that could have been accounted for to make the experience just a little bit more akin to what we have seen on the desktop, and it is in these respects that the initial app tended to lag behind the competition.

Still, as of today you can allay those fears just a little bit with the coming of version 2.0. One of the most obvious changes you will see is that support for subscriptions has been added through the use of a new panel. When new videos are released to your subscribed channels, you'll now be able to see them on the side of your screen. Playback tools have also been reworked as well to allow support for features like captioning and even the creation of full-blown video playlists right from the settings menu.

The bad news is, in all of this the videos are still downloaded to your console rather than streamed, so make sure you have a little extra memory on your card before use. At least it gives us something to hope for in 3.0 right?

Even with this new app, would you prefer YouTube on the Vita to something more established like an iPhone or PC? To me the whole downloading vs streaming concept is just clunky.
