It's just a rumor at this point, but Sony may be shutting down the makers of Unit 13. Is anyone surprised?
Unit 13 performed relatively well its first week out (probably because of the relatively shallow Vita market), but it has gotten a lot of negative reviews. It should come as no surprise then that Sony is apparently considering shutting Zipper Interactive down altogether. It may seem drastic but Kotaku's sources say the studio has already been hit with project cancellations and layoffs so a shut down may indeed be in the works.
Zipper is a first-party Sony studio, so they'd be well within their rights to shut it down if they so chose.
What do you think? Should Zipper be allowed to redeem themselves? What did you think of Unit 13?

If there is one thing Zipper is known for, it's the classic Socom games for the PS2. The wide-spread phenomenon that is 3rd person tactical shooting. Without Socom for any later Sony consoles, it's gonna be pretty upsetting, since only Zipper can make them so good. Excluding the mess that was Socom 4, Confrontations was really good after patches came out, and most of the PS2 Socoms were just the best. Hopefully another company can take over the Socom franchise and make it what it used to be, a 3rd person, heavily squad based, tactical shooter. Not the CoD shit that seemed to take over Socom 4.

Well, I don't wish them any harm, but maybe it's best they stop now... Looking at their game list (http://www.zipperint.com/games.html) they only made FPS games. Their games resemble the CoD/BF flavors, but doesn't really hold a candle to them. And Sony already has studios for other FPS styles, such as Resistance and Killzone. Maybe by letting them go, another small studio will take its place, something like PixelJunk would be refreshing...
