Could This Be The End of VHBL?

Submitted by tbag; May 23, 2012

The last time we heard from Wololo he was running a contest but now Wololo is expressing his thoughts on the future of VHBL and you certainly won't want to miss what he has to say...

As most of you know there are 3 versions of VHBL out there that let you run PSP homebrew on your Vita (Motorstorm, Everybodys Tennis, and Super Collapse 3) none of which was easy to produce. Especially Supper Collapse 3 and as a result offers the least compatibility of all the VHBL releases.  According to Wololo it was more luck than anything that they were even found to begin with.

According to Wololo there are a few developers out there with a few more potential VHBL exploits.  None have been ported yet and for some of them its simply a dead end but others appear promising and we could see another release in the future.  But now its time to question if its even worth it. So Wololo is posing the question to you the readers,

Should we release a new VHBL asap? Should we wait for a new firmware? Should we not bother?

Some may think that VHBL is pointless due to the limitations of only using PSP homebrew and would rather a HEN or a Vita CFW to maximize the full potential of the system. Now dont go into a full VHBL is dead frenzy because no one is saying that, but if youre using VHBL or think that any kind of homebrew on the Vita is a good idea than show your support and leave us a comment.

for me HEN would be cool and I would love to see that some time.    VHBL is good too because its the first step and if i remeber people where going to give up on the psp 3000 because of being so hard to hack and now look where it is.  Devs get a lot of crap from ungrateful selfish people.   and can also get crap from Sony.   I am learning programing its not easy.  my hat is off to all the  Devs out there.  don't give up the world needs ya :)

Dark ALex  was the one that made history with the PSP

who is it going to be for the PSV ?  :)

I think a PSP HEN would be nice, because then we have PSX games, PSP isos, and emulators.

I'm to poor to buy a vita but i got a second hand  psp go for $80 (after installing cfw on atleast 3 of my friends) and i love the homebrew, the emulators expaneds the game library 10 fold then theirs the apps, games and tweaks to set up the system just the way you like it ......So why am i going fork out 250 (befor tax) for a vita w/ no homebrew no games and no freedom

maximize full potential? same was said for the Ps3 and we have less homebrews than Psp, I don't even need CFW on my Ps3 to play emus since I can use Ps2 homebrews.

It depends. But sincerely, the ability to play sega / nes games is useless. Any smartphone can do it now. I'm still going to say it - the scene needs to research how vita's cartridges work and how to defeat Sony Content Manager. Until we understand this stuff, VHBL is just toying around. My apologies if I insult someone with my words.

Personaly, I'm not too interested in a full Vita hack. I've been buying the Vita games that I like (Uncharted, Wipeout) and staying away from the ones I don't like (Mod Racers, Any Gameloft game). And with great games coming this summer, I think the Vita is right where it needs to be.

With that said, I would LOVE to be able to play my PSP games on the Vita. Not the mild list of games that PSN gives us. I want to play YuGiOh and Phantisy Star 2 SO BAD, my head is spinning!!! Or even Midnight Club... heck, why aren't there any PSP FPS games available (Resistance, Coded Arms, etc.). These games would instantly be better with the second thumb stick, but Sony just wants us to buy the new $40 Vita versions without giving us the option.

This alone is why I want VHBL to work. So that I can make my own gaming choices without Sony's profit margin being a deciding factor...

PLaying emus on a smartphone is ridiculous - its a novelty for a bit, but the lack of real buttons means you can't do anything serious, I def want the buttons/pad of the vita for emus (and so i dont have to carry around a psp in case i want to play them)

I just got my vita so i'm SOL on any VHBL right now so to me it doens't matter.  Give me HEN, concentrate on that so we can play all psp games and psx plus snes and genesis and also CPS/CPS2 Nego Geo........

This is the reason i Bought this system, for the anticipation of how great it would be when all this was possible.

Sincerely,

New PSV Owner

I think pacing out the releases would be the best way to do it, that way a broader range of people can potentially use VHBL. A full hack would be sweet, the Vita has enough power to handle almost any codec and emulators. I'd say it might manage partial PS2/GC support if they used all the cores.
