If you were looking to get something for free the other week but missed out, then Sony is about to hook you up with something that will change how often you pick up your PS Vita.
Official firmware 1.80 is just around the corner, late August to be exact. OFW 1.80 brings an attractive list of new features to the PS Vita, some of which I have been waiting on for quite some time. The list is below and consists of:
"Cross Controller
The new Cross-Controller feature will allow you to use PS Vita as a controller to play compatible games on PS3, such as LittleBigPlanet 2. This feature lets you take advantage of PS Vitas rich features including the touch screen, rear touch pad, six-axis motion sensing system, and cameras.
To access the cross controller feature you need to launch the Remote Play application and then click on the Cross-Controller icon.
Controls
As many of you have requested, you will now have the option to control the home screen and some features of applications such as Videos and Music with the buttons on the PS Vita system.
Music
Playlists will be supported in Music. You will be able to transfer iTunes (10.6.3 or later), M3U, and M3U8 playlists from a PS3 or a PC using Content Manager.
Web Browser
Rear touch pad operation will be supported by the browser, allowing you to scroll through and zoom out of pages without obscuring the screen.
Video
The following controls have been added to Videos:
- Playback speed control
- Repeat play
Photos
Viewing photos in MPO format will now be supported, with the ability to transfer MPO files from PS3 and PC using Content Manager.
* 3D and multi-angle viewing are NOT supported.
Group Messaging
Along with some new layout enhancements, you will be able to take photos to add as attachments when writing Group Messages.
Maps
The Maps feature has been improved by adding a button on the top screen to switch between Search for Location and Search for Directions. You can also touch and hold a location on the map and place a user flag.
near
near will be able to gather the information of surrounding Wi-Fi access points without internet connection and update the location data based on it later. You can get location data within the area covered by Wi-Fi location services."
As well as the above listed features, more settings will be capable of adjustment whilst in game, as well as screenshot capability within more titles. And finally without further ado, the feature we have all been waiting for... PS1 Classics! Finally, PS Vita gamers can play their purchased PS1 games on their Vita without waiting for a hack.
First thing I am doing after installing the 1.80 update is powering through Crash Bandicoot 1, 2 and 3. What will you play first?!

Okay, so will PS Vita owners have to buy the PS1 games off of the PS Store, or can we use our own original PS1 games? I'm hoping I don't have to buy them again..

you will have to buy them again

The Sony PS1 deal works like this -
You own a PS3 console and have bought digitally a PS1 classic from the Playstation Store, when Vita 1.80 firmware is released you will be able to download all the PS1 games you have bought digitally for your PS3 onto your Vita console (providing its using the same PSN Account).
It does NOT give you free PS1 games for your Vita if you own a DISC based PS1 game. Basically if you thought you could go out to the local pawn shop and buy a bunch of $2 PS1 games, and then expect to get those for free on your Vita, you are mistaken. If you own a PS1 console and own 40 PS1 games...you do NOT get them ported to your Vita for free sorry.
Only ppl who bought PS1 classics on their ps3 via the PS Store are able to download the games for free to their Vita (every single one of them). You also must still be the owner of the PSN account and still have access to it...so if you sold ur ps3 recently, and ur account went with it, ur screwed!
Edit: If you own a PS3 console and own 50 PS1 classics you bought via the PS Stopre then congratz, you got urself 50 free PS1 classics for ur Vita
