How To Find a PS Vita SaveGame Exploit

Submitted by Christopher Groux; October 25, 2012

While it may seem like these kinds of scene developments only come from your top notch programmers or maybe even gods, there are some steps that the average user can take to poke inside  some of their favorite PSP game titles. The biggest difference here is knowing the distinction between a crash and an exploit. More or less, crashes do not allow for any injection of code, while exploits leave room for some.

In order to pull this off, you'll need some basic supplies:

  • PSP CFW 6.60
  • A PC
  • PSPLink (for Windows)
  • A Hex Editor (like HxD)
  • A PSP-plugin called Savegame Deemer

Now, activate the plugin (and that plugin only) from the game.txt and go ahead and create a new savegame for any PS Store game or simply load your own. After that a folder will be created called "SAVEPLAIN" which will contain your decrypted savegame file. Next, open your hex editor to the SDDATA.BIN, find your profile name, and add lots of "a's" to the end of it and save. Enable the PSPLink plugins , usbhostfs.prx and psplink.prx, in game.txt and in vsh.txt (assuming you have PSP Drivers type B on your computer.) Next launch pspsh.exe and usbhostfs.exe and load your modified save. You will get a crash as displayed in pspsh that can easily be copied over into any development forum of your choice. That's where  the more qualified users will take the reins. Until then, you have officially made a contribution to the scene.

You still will miss it because you're a full retard. I couldn't make this horse drink if I beat every bit of life out of it.

Linux does NOT suck for PSP homebrew programming, anything you can do on Windows, you can do on Linux or there will be an alternative...I (on Linux Mint) use Code::Blocks, which you can also get on Windows. All you gotta do is link the PSP SDK to Linux Code::Blocks (or another C/C++ IDE and you can code for PSP =/...I dont see why you would say Linux sucks for this purpose =/!

Just the fact that there aren't 40 billion virii and trojans for Linux is enough reason to use it. But I wont get into a Windows vs Linux debate (I dual boot both so I know them both inside out)...im just saying that blindly saying Linux sucks for programming (PSP or general programming) is so wrong. Im betting you have never used Linux (besides testing it for a few days).

Heck, Linux was around even before Bill Gates bought QDos (Quick and Dirty Operating System) and created DoS with it!

Linux started in 1991 although Unix has been around since 1969 so get your facts straight before popping off blindly without knowing all the facts. DoS and Windows 3.1 were in fact around before the start of Linux.
