A small shockwave has been sent through the PSP scene with today's release of OFW 2.0 for the Vita. Just like any other big version number jump, it has made many gamers ponder the question of updating and losing their homebrew compatibility. After all, those free PlayStation Plus games might just be enough to hold you over till a new exploit is utilized, and that email functionality does sound pretty cool.
Thankfully though, the scene veteran Frostegater has tried to make that decision just a little bit easier with proof of a "hello world" already running on an up to date console. As has been the case, this exploit is once again located within the system's PSP emulator, which means the potential for many of your favorite existing programs to be ported still remains quite high. Still, Total Noob's kernel exploit seems to have been covered, so any developments at this point will most likely involve the use of VHBL. It is true that Sony has used 2.0 to patch all of what we know to be publicly true, but it appears that some of the more secret game exploits have yet to have been fully fixed. As we all know, the scene has dozens of games waiting in the wings to be used for hacking purposes. My guess is that with this news it won't be long till yet another title is released to help those out who have already updated.
