Live Performance Using Custom Kinect/Ableton/Max Setup

While we're still on a Dubstep kick here at kinect-hacks, why not write about another cool way to turn yourself into a dubstepin theremin rocking musical magician. This latest posts comes from Chris Vik who had the pleasure of presenting his setup during a live performance at Microsoft's REMIX11 conference. The performance is pretty damn cool as he's able to record and loop sequences and utilize pre-set sounds for individual gestures. By the end of the video you'll get an idea of how customizable and efficient one could be with this type of setup. In order to accomplish all of this, the following software/hardware was utilized for the musical integration: • Ableton Live • NI Massive • Max/MSP (making useful MIDI data out of the hand coordinates from OSCeleton) • Behringer FCB1010 (controlling Ableton, ie. looping, switching the Kinects instrument etc) The Kinect was setup using OpenNI, PrimeSense NITE and OSCeleton.
